I shove most the veg in oven also.

Potatoes par boiled, thrown in oven. I same oven dish throw a few other root veg and red onions.

Leave 30 mins

Then throw in some meat also that's pan fried 5 mins first to brown. Leave whole lot 45ish mins.

Eat

If I feel particularly fancy, I'll make a white sauce for the cauliflower cheese. But I'm normally half cut by that point.

I'm northern and my mum does meat (normally chicken and gammon, big family) , stuffing, Yorkshires, two types of veg, Yorkshire puddings toasties and either mash or new potatoes. I hate mash so don't have that if its there. There's always loads of gravy, pickles, pickallily and a few.condiments about to. She adds roasted parsnips, pigs in blankets and sprouts at Christmas x

I meant roasties, even by our standards a toasties with the rest would be a bit much Grin

KindDogsTail · 17/07/2016 18:14

I would say not both, and traditionally the potatoes would be roast; but you could have mashed swedes - or another vegetable (other than potatoes) mashed.

squoosh · 17/07/2016 18:15

It's not a proper roast dinner unless there's some mashed carrot and parsnip.

Patterkiller · 17/07/2016 18:16

I do two types of potatoes. Everyone loves rosaries except me so I do boiled or mash for me. Although mash would only be if we were having chicken, never with beef.

I just went out and had a roast purely because of this thread. Just roasts though, no mash and roast!

Bassetfeet · 17/07/2016 19:08

Lots of left over mash and roasties plus veg make another meal next day .
Bubble and Sqeak is very nice indeed and thrifty . Love it.

Only roast spuds, but mashed carrot and parsnip. And roast parsnip. But never, ever roast carrots.

imwithspud · 17/07/2016 22:31

Did roast pork today, with roasties AND mash, seasoned with garlic. It was very nice indeed.

They serve mash at most Carvery restaurants so it's obviously a thing.
