Swearing on Mumsnet

Kittyinthewood · 29/06/2016 16:34

Just a simple and maybe even a silly question - but why do people swear on Mumsnet? It just often makes peoples comments come across as so aggressive.....the swearing could so easily be avoided...and the comments come across as more considerd. I am interested to read what others think.....Thanks loads folks....XXX

I don't much like the swearing on here either. But Im a born hypocrite as there are moments I find myself swearing liberally in real life, Im just particular about certain words. On a previous swearing thread I said I don't like the "C word" or c* (spelt just like thatGrin ) and alongside other posters who agreed yeah, don't like it either it was 3 pages of posters taking the absolute living piss out of us, with loads of comments all contriving to contain THAT word and come up with sarky variations on shortening, asterisks etc

It was so funny tho, - but even if I was sitting here laughing I had to have a rant about it all ON PRINCIPLE after all its MN isn't it?

MN can get on my nerves at times but when you need support re shit that happens in life at times you've got it 100% around here. Whats swearing compared to that. You get used to it

Shouldwestayorshouldwegonow · 29/06/2016 17:07

cuntunkins Grin

expatinscotland · 29/06/2016 17:08

The reason I swear so much is because fuck you.

SlinkyVagabond · 29/06/2016 17:08

Oh is it that time of year again? Wimbledon, asparagus season and a thread about swearing.
And the answer is because we can. That's it, definitive and final.

Natsku · 29/06/2016 17:09

Because its so fucking nice to be able to write what's in my mind without having to censor myself like on practically all other forums. Mumsnet is a breath of fresh air when it comes to this.

Because it's fucking fabulous to be free to swear, that's why. It's good for letting off steam.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 29/06/2016 17:13

I can definitely see the point of a good times swear word or six.

I cannot for the life of me work out why people use kisses at the end of their posts.

PurpleRainDiamondsandPearls · 29/06/2016 17:13

Not entirely off (or on) topic but my dad thinks crap is a swear word. He tells me off. I'm 38!

Boogers · 29/06/2016 17:14

Does that mean I can't call Donald Fart a hoofwanking bunglecunt any more? Sad

clicknclack · 29/06/2016 17:14

They swear because they are all fucking cunts OP. You and I are better than all that.

DiamondInTheRuff · 29/06/2016 17:14

Without swearing we could never have had "fuck off you spud can't".

Is that the sort of world you want to live in, OP? IS IT?

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 29/06/2016 17:15

You know you've arrived on Mumsnet when someone calls you an atrocious cunt.

user1465823522 · 29/06/2016 17:15

people swear in real life too. sometimes you can explain your point without swearing, but sometimes a well placed fuck says more than a thousand words

thepothasboiledover · 29/06/2016 17:16

I fucking love to swear because I'm a bastard cunt waffle twat bag

Asprilla11 · 29/06/2016 17:16

I'm not a parent (or female, not that it matters) but I would imagine for a lot of stay at home parents it's a constant battle to not swear in front of their children or any children, even when speaking on the phone.

I would imagine for some it's like a tourette's tic time bomb building up and they have to let it out by exploding it on MN Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 29/06/2016 17:16

FYI I've reported the OP for ellipsis abuse.

NOT REALLY.

but I want to

BillSykesDog · 29/06/2016 17:16

Fuck off cuntychops xxx

AmberNectarine · 29/06/2016 17:17

I learnt a new swear word the other day when I saw Donald Trump described as a shitgibbon. I think it's a splendid word and I shall be adopting it into my sweary vernacular forthwith.

bushtailadventures · 29/06/2016 17:18

I love the swearing on MN, I'm fucking old, but I find it educational!! For instance I had never heard of 'cockwomble' before, now I try to use it at least once a day.

Boogers · 29/06/2016 17:18

Shitgibbon GrinGrin

glasgowlass · 29/06/2016 17:18

I thought I recognised the OPs name.
She is the bawjaws who thinks that parents of children with autism create their situation and that autistic behaviours & traits can be helped with discipline & strict routine.
Off you fuck dear. There's a love.

smoothieooo · 29/06/2016 17:19

I don't usually swear gratuitously when posting but there is something about this post which makes me want to type the words cunt, fuck and twatbandit. No idea why Confused

glasgowlass · 29/06/2016 17:19

shitgibbon 😂 that's majestic swearing right there!

WhereYouLeftIt · 29/06/2016 17:20

Yes it is a silly question. And sometimes I swear because I want to come across as aggressive. Or exasperated. Or shocked. Or ... whatever emotion that I feel swearing will convey.

And I feel quite exasperated at kisses - fucking kisses! - at the end of OP's post.
