Swearing on Mumsnet

Kittyinthewood · 29/06/2016 16:34

Just a simple and maybe even a silly question - but why do people swear on Mumsnet? It just often makes peoples comments come across as so aggressive.....the swearing could so easily be avoided...and the comments come across as more considerd. I am interested to read what others think.....Thanks loads folks....XXX

because we are adults. some of us spend a lot of time watching what we say around the kids, at work, it's nice to just let rip sometimes. I like that MN is sweary, I don't like the idea that because we are (mostly) a bunch of mums, that we have to be "nice". Fuck that.

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 29/06/2016 16:50

I'm a feminist and I don't object to cunt.

Buzzardbird · 29/06/2016 16:51

I am offended at ellipsis abuse...really fucking offended.

EmpressTomatoKetchup · 29/06/2016 16:51

I'm a feminist too. I try to use cunt and dick equally.

throwawayjunefri · 29/06/2016 16:52

Just a simple and maybe even a silly question - but why do people condescend on Mumsnet? It just often makes peoples comments come across as so passive-aggressive.....the condescension could so easily be avoided...and the comments come across as more considerd. I am interested to read what others think.....Thanks loads OP....XXX

LilacSpunkMonkey · 29/06/2016 16:52

Fuck...off...

UptheAnty · 29/06/2016 16:52

On the contrary...

As a feminist I make sure to slip the word cunt into as many sentences as possible.

Make of that what you will.

Numberoneisgone · 29/06/2016 16:53

When I met my DH he was always swearing, in a bid to make him see how bad he was I tool up the habit, he has stopped, I have kept it up. I mortify him sometimes with my sweary ways. How the tables have turned.

CatThiefKeith · 29/06/2016 16:53

I quite agree OP. And anyone that doesn't is, quite frankly, an atrocious cunt.

icanteven · 29/06/2016 16:53

As a feminist, I am in favour of cunts and twats because it is important (to me) to strip the word of its power as a weapon to hurt women when used by men (or women) who hate women.

Uppercase kisses?

Heavens!

QOD · 29/06/2016 16:54

F*ck ... Off ... 🖕🏻xx

glasgowlass · 29/06/2016 16:55

Sometimes you just need to call someone a fuckfaced cuntstain, I find it helps with the emphasis of my disdain. Also, we're adults so we can. Part of the beauty of MN is that is not overly moderated by professionally offended admins.
I find spelling mistakes in sanctimonious posts more irritating to be honest. I won't even start on the xxx's at the end of posts. That shite can fuck right off.
HTH Hun.

OldManJenkins · 29/06/2016 16:55

I swear a lot when I been on the Sherry, don't mean to offend ya

You can't beat a good fuck op.

Why would you put kisses after a post to unknown adults.

That's fucking annoying

NeedACleverNN · 29/06/2016 16:58

We swear because we want to. Simple as that. No children, no little ears to repeat, so swear away. And loudly as you want to.

If you don't like it there is a gentler site that bans swearing altogether. Not quite sure what it is though. Sounds almost mythical

Asprilla11 · 29/06/2016 17:00

user1467101855 · 29/06/2016 17:02

It's interesting when people assume swearing indicates aggression, its so narrow minded. Let the fucks fly free, we're all grown ups here.

Sign of intelligence, good swearing.

Cuntikins · 29/06/2016 17:03

I agree op. Sickens me.

MrsHathaway · 29/06/2016 17:04

I think throwaway is witty and clever actually.

Mumsnet is for adults. On most threads the swearing is just like what I'd expect in a conversation between adult friends. There are some more sweary threads but they tend to be well signposted (eg The Sweary Threads) or obviously high emotion (eg discovering an affair or other betrayal, or politics).

Starring out swearing is pointless. Everyone knows you mean fuck if you type f&ck, so just type it. If you don't want to put fuck, put feck or fudge instead.

I like to feel I'm among friends on MN. If that means it sounds more like a dockers' bar than a maiden aunt's parlour, fine.
