If a general election is called would you vote Lib Dem to stay in the EU?

If there is a general election the Lib Dems have stated they will run on a platform to keep the UK in the EU if they win. The Tories obviously won't do that and the Labour party can't really run on that platform I don't think since so many Labour voters voted to leave. I'm curious if the Lib Dems would attract a lot of support since they would effectively be turning the general election into a second referendum.

Yes I would. I actually think they did a good job of keeping the Conservatives in check when they were in coalition. If you look at the big cuts they made to benefits, they were made after the last election when the Conservative got the majority.

RufusTheReindeer · 28/06/2016 23:37

Yes, but i did vote for them at the last election

and i havent signed the petition, but if a GE was called i think they are the only party i feel i could vote for

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 28/06/2016 23:39

Yes - but I've always voted lib dem and I live in a very safe Tory area.

SandysMom · 28/06/2016 23:40

Yes

GoldBear · 28/06/2016 23:48

Yes, I certainly would.

I think the LibDems in coalition were treated as if they were a one party majority who had the chance to decide anything, when they had just a small part of the vote. Now they've gone we can really see what they did to hold the Tories in check and how many of their policies were implemented. There was never any way they could get everything through and I thought it was shameful that Labour whipped votes against PR even though it was in their manifesto. It's now that the Labour party's short term opportunism on attacking Clegg is really coming home to roost, and we're all fucked because of this. If they'd followed their manifesto - and they had the power to do as they wished - we might not have had a Tory government.

I live in a Tory/LibDem marginal seat, so it's an easy call, but many friends more left wing than me do the same. Our newly minted Tory MP is to the normal human being wing of the party and did work hard on remain, but the only thing he's denied the whip on is poppers. How self serving can you get?

Let's all join and show Farage what an arse he really is.

raisedbyguineapigs · 28/06/2016 23:49

yes, but I usually vote for them anyway, and the centre left is my home.

SugarPlumTree · 28/06/2016 23:51

Whether I would or not is irrelevant here, they wouldn't win. I have voted for them in the past.

mynamesnotMa · 28/06/2016 23:52

Yes esp if they brought Nick cLEGG back.
Sick of Labour bloody fools.

Alachia · 29/06/2016 00:11

Yes. I voted LD until they were double-crossing toads. I am especially bitter over tuition fees, but over this, yes I think I would.

joangray38 · 29/06/2016 00:15

Yes, the Lin dems held the conservative right in check. I imagine DC misses them too.

SmilingHappyBeaver · 29/06/2016 00:30

Yes - we need another coalition to keep the Tories and their schoolboy antics in check. SNP would sit in third place, and Labour would fall to fourth, just ahead of UKIP, if there was an election called early.

I rejoined the Lib Dems today.

Coulddowithanap · 29/06/2016 00:37

No. I voted to leave.

Itinerary · 29/06/2016 00:41

No. I would avoid voting for them when otherwise I might have.

Kummerspeck · 29/06/2016 00:41

No. They are lying opportunists

WaxyBean · 29/06/2016 01:53

Yes

Alisvolatpropiis · 29/06/2016 02:06

I've been saying since Friday morning that this could be the Lib Dems Phoenix from the ashes moment.

And yes, I would vote for them.

nocoolnamesleft · 29/06/2016 02:56

Vote for them? After they came out with that I joined them!

lalalonglegs · 29/06/2016 03:30

Not if it meant rejoining the EU and we had to accept, for example, no opt-outs and might even have to use the euro. If there were to be an election before Art 50 was triggered, I'd definitely consider it.

Yes, I'd think about it. Never voted anything other than Labour in my life. Depends where the Labour Party ends up in a few weeks.

Globetrotter100 · 29/06/2016 04:44

Yes. Without a doubt.

Talkingmouse · 29/06/2016 05:13

Yes. Definitely.

Lib Dems have always been pro Europe.

We voted 'leave' as a nation but that 'leave' is a blank canvas with many different versions of 'leave'. This is part of the reason why it won of course - it was all things to all leavers - and why we have uncertainty, an absence of leadership, and investment into the UK abruptly halted.

It is clear we are going to need a 2nd vote to sort this mess out, probably in the form of a general election. The winning party's manifesto will then supersede the Referendum vote.

Natsku · 29/06/2016 05:26

Yes

MangoMoon · 29/06/2016 05:29

No.

I was veering toward Lib Dem until they announced this.
I cannot vote for a party who has such a blatant disregard for democracy & the will of the electorate.

In fact, it's not even a disregard for democracy, it's actively going against it, which is even worse.

waitingforsomething · 29/06/2016 05:55

Yes I would strongly consider it depending on my local candidate. I am traditionally a labour voter but they are not credible right now - hoping they will have a better leader in place before too long.
I thought LDs were not given enough credit for how they 'tempered' the tories during the coalition. I agree that the tuition fees thing was shit.
