If a general election is called would you vote Lib Dem to stay in the EU?

If there is a general election the Lib Dems have stated they will run on a platform to keep the UK in the EU if they win. The Tories obviously won't do that and the Labour party can't really run on that platform I don't think since so many Labour voters voted to leave. I'm curious if the Lib Dems would attract a lot of support since they would effectively be turning the general election into a second referendum.

Does Merkel have the right to say there's no going back for us? It's not her decision. It's the decision of whoever does or doesn't trigger article 50? I'm prepared to be corrected. I'd do anything to stop this happening so, yes, we vote Lib Dem despite tuition fees.

crossroads3 · 30/06/2016 05:46

I don't think she does Angry. I suppose prolonged uncertainty is bad for the other EU countries, but legally speaking she is wrong.

Can't believe we are going to see the conservatives merrily still in power after what they have done. David Cameron smugly attacking Jeremy Corbyn yesterday seems to have no notion of what HE has done and I actually hate him now.

Am praying that a General Election is called before Article 50 is invoked.

I feel that England is a bad place to be right now and on top of it all people are having to deal with an increase in racist attacks. I am worried for everyone who might be targeted including my own dc who are half Indian.

So THANK YOU BORIS AND DAVE, THANK YOU FOR THE GOD AWFUL MESS YOUR "FUN AND GAMES" HAVE CAUSED Angry.

Am marching against Brexit on Saturday in London, in case anyone is interested in going or would like to spread the word:

Yes!

user1465823522 · 30/06/2016 06:56

hell no

fakenamefornow · 30/06/2016 07:31

I agree. Is there a petition asking for this?

Also, I heard on the radio this morning that Brexit will probably take about 5 years. Looking at the way the different demographics voted, with older people voting out and younger people voting remain, it seems to me very likely that by the time we are actually out, most people in the country WON'T want to leave as many older people will have died and younger voters will have come through.

Alconleigh · 30/06/2016 08:04

I would, absolutely.

Floods123 · 30/06/2016 09:46

Lib Dems are irrelevant. Waste of a vote. Might as well vote Monster Raving Looney.

bakeoffcake · 30/06/2016 09:51

What a ridiculous statement Floods123. If enough people vote for a party, they get MPs and are therefore not an irrelevances.

That's how democracy works.

Flashbangandgone · 30/06/2016 11:03

Floods123 Who exactly are relevant just at the moment?

Labour? Apparently entering full-scale civil war on a scale not yet seen in the UK. Unelectable at the moment, and perhaps for ever

UKIP? Only 1 MP, so 8 times less relevant than Lib Dems?!

Greens? Ditto

Which leaves the Tories... Yes, relevant but though damaged and divided, and not representative of the views of many millions.

rookiemere · 30/06/2016 12:20

Sadly the SNP are very relevant at the minute.

The interesting thing about all of this is how this vote has turned conventional politics on it's head.

I was a tory/lib dem voter in the past, I'd now gladly vote Labour if they could just pull themselves together and stop disintegrating in the public eye as I now genuinely believe the country needs a political party that makes the welfare of our poorest and most vulnerable part of their manifesto.

But if Labour can't/won't turn themselves around quick enough then Lib/Dem it is. I actually think coalition governments are a good thing in any case.

ShoesieQ · 30/06/2016 13:13

Yes!! Grin

willconcern · 30/06/2016 13:17

Yes.

But I would vite Lib Dem anyway, even without this.

Wait4nothing · 30/06/2016 15:03

Yes, but I've voted lib dem in the last two general elections. I was upset by the student loan issue but felt the other positives brought through by the lib dem side of the coalition outweighed that.
I don't think anyone in the EU can force us out or force us to invoke A50.
The referendum can surely only be fair if it was without outright lies.

BoatyMcBoat · 30/06/2016 16:10

The LibDems cannot keep us in the EU except if you're living in Cloud Cuckoo Land where anyone can do anything. I'm a billionaire there; so are you. None of use have to work for a living, we all own helicopters and mansions.

NO ONE CAN KEEP US IN THE EU NOW

AllChangeLife · 30/06/2016 16:18

Yes, but i'm Lib Dem anyway

rookiemere · 30/06/2016 16:37

I've just joined the Lib Dems online.
I have voted for them in the past but I feel if they are to have any influence there needs to be a groundswell of people supporting them.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 30/06/2016 16:40

Problem is that they'd likely end up in a Tory coalition and end up endorsing an exit from the EU with bells on, if tuition fees are any sort of precedent! I don't trust the Tories, obviously, but before 2010 I probably thought the lib dems had some integrity: now I wouldn't trust them not to go back on everything they've ever said.

rookiemere · 30/06/2016 16:45

What's the alternative though seekevery ?
Labour's doing a spectacular implosion job so doesn't offer a credible opposition option.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 30/06/2016 16:47

Oh Rookie I know, and I despair. Just in terms of the lib dems though, their moment in power particuarly makes me think they would disappoint.

OneArt · 01/07/2016 07:35

This thread is giving me a shred of hope!

Windsofwinter · 01/07/2016 07:45

I've voted lib dem before, but joined the Labour Party because of JC. My vote is worthless though; my local Tory MP has been in office for at least 30 years with a massive majority. No chance of ousting him!

ThePinkOcelot · 01/07/2016 07:45

No I wouldnt

raisedbyguineapigs · 01/07/2016 10:03

Cameron was banking on being in coalition with the Lib Dems to wheedle out of his rash referendum pledge in the first place. He thought he could pull out of it and blame the Lib Dems for not allowing him to do it. If they are in coalition, let them blame away and not trigger article 50. Anything is better than the shit storm that is to come.
