If a general election is called would you vote Lib Dem to stay in the EU?

If there is a general election the Lib Dems have stated they will run on a platform to keep the UK in the EU if they win. The Tories obviously won't do that and the Labour party can't really run on that platform I don't think since so many Labour voters voted to leave. I'm curious if the Lib Dems would attract a lot of support since they would effectively be turning the general election into a second referendum.

Yes

I tend towards lib dem anyway...

SonicSpotlight · 29/06/2016 12:04

I would in a heartbeat if I thought they'd keep the promise.

They lie.

SonicSpotlight · 29/06/2016 12:05

Psttt! It's not Clegg anymore. It's Tim Farron.

Homemama · 29/06/2016 12:17

Sonic was that addressed to me, as its me you're paraphrasing?

Where have I indicated that I think NC is still leader rather than TF? Confused I was saying, like others, that's he's my ideal Prime Minister. I am fully aware that he is no longer leader of the LDs, thank you.

SonicSpotlight · 29/06/2016 12:22

No, to Trixy, who was probably responding to you and knows Clegg is not the current leader anyway.

I'll get my coat...

DataColour · 29/06/2016 12:32

Yes.

ZaZathecat · 29/06/2016 12:39

Yup.

hmcAsWas · 29/06/2016 12:39

Lib Dem in my natural inclination but I usually vote Labour as a tactical vote, so yes I would vote Lib Dem

However I am currently a paid up member of the Conservative party (joining really stuck in my craw) so that I can vote in their leadership election (I'll be leaving after that's done)

whiteDragon · 29/06/2016 12:43

Possibly.

The area I'm in voted out though so I'm not sure they'd be a good tactical vote and Plaid Cymru might be a better bet in my area.

trixymalixy · 29/06/2016 13:12

I was responding to Homemama Sonic, i know fine well that Clegg is not the leader of the lib dems.

What i'm not 100% sure about though is whether it's Tim Fallon or Tim Farron. I thought Tim Farron, but I'm sure I keep seeing folk saying it's Tim Fallon?!

like here

PrimalLass · 29/06/2016 13:21

Yes.

I said this on another thread, but I bet Dave regrets throwing Nick under the bus just to win the election. Then we would not be in this mess.

Footle · 29/06/2016 13:29

Farron.

trixymalixy · 29/06/2016 13:45

not just me!

RangeTesKopeks · 29/06/2016 13:47

100% yes

LadyAntonella · 29/06/2016 13:50

Possibly. I wouldn't normally vote Lib Dem, but to stay in the EU I might.

Sallystyle · 29/06/2016 13:52

Yes.

I am a Labour voter, but I'm slowly heading towards becoming a Lib Dem.

Propertyquandry · 29/06/2016 14:13

Yes, without doubt if they stood on a platform of staying in the EU

Ellioru · 29/06/2016 14:25

No. I don't think it's acceptable to hold a referendum then completely ignore the result because you don't agree with the winning vote.

ExitPursuedByBear · 29/06/2016 14:42

hmc when did you join the Tories?

CountessOfStrathearn · 29/06/2016 14:45

Yes, I would but I am a Lib Dem member. I joined just after the last GE when it became massively clear just how much the Lib Dems had done to moderate and minimise the Conservatives.

I think it is silly to boil it all down to "but they did a U turn on tuition fees" and discount them on that basis alone.

21 Lib Dem MPs voted against, compared to the 28 who voted for, so it was hardly a resounding change of heart within the party. So many of those MPs who did vote against were then punished unfairly and voted out, leading to our now Conservative majority and the more punishing austerity measures.

itispersonal · 29/06/2016 15:09

Yes from me and my dp. Though I have voted from them the last couple of elections even though in a strong labour seat. That said I don't think Tim Farron is a strong enough contender personality wise not like Nick Clegg was, to make too much headroom for the lib dems.

I don't understand why people keep mentioning the tuition fees, they weren't the party in power and had to accept defeat in this policy to get others agreed. As happens in a coalition! If I was Nick clegg and had to choose between pupil premium, free school meals or increasing the tax threshold instead of tuition fees I'd have gone with the above first.
As other have said we have seen only in the last year how bad the Tories have become since they now have full power!

Also, If you read what the lib dems have said they do accept the vote but don't and won't accept Farrages idea of Britain.

My only worry is if labour and Tories don't sort themselves out and a GE was called UKIP would get a lot more votes!

SugarMiceInTheRain · 29/06/2016 15:15

Yes, I would. I voted for them in the General Election when they got in as part of the coalition government. I think they got an unjustified pasting after that - of course they weren't able to deliver on their promises - Labour government had left the coffers empty, DC was in charge, using NC as his whipping boy, having him make announcements about decisions which were going to be unpopular etc. I have zero confidence in the Conservatives, Labour don't seem to know their arse from their elbow at the moment, and we need some sanity in the country. I don't have much hope of sanity prevailing any time soon though.

MitzyLeFrouf · 29/06/2016 15:17

Yes

M00nUnit · 29/06/2016 15:22

Yes. I've been a Lib Dem voter for a long time anyway.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/06/2016 15:28

I'd vote for any party which had remaining in as a manifesto pledge, unless it was in a seat where UKIP was in contention.

If we had a PR then of course I'd vote for LibDem (or a new alliance with them and the breakaway moderates from either/both other parties)
