Not to change the spare bed sheets for a new guest

Would never dream of doing this normally. Very clean MIL coming for 1 night. The week after DP's friend is staying for 1 night, by the time he gets to bed he'll be pretty drunk if usual behaviour is repeated. It fills me with horror not to have a spotless bed/bedroom for guests but really not sure I can be bothered this time. WIBU not to change them as a one off?

Totally fine. But maybe hangs he pillow case.

One clean person dressed in PJs or a nighty does not a dirty bed make.

whois · 27/06/2016 20:38

Hangs he? Change the.

Orangedaisy · 27/06/2016 20:39

And MIL never strips the bed, she makes it up again all neatly. Drives me mad. Makes more work than leaving it unmade.

Agree with whois; just air the bed and change the pillowcase and all should be fine.

dudsville · 27/06/2016 20:42

He'll be fine... but I wouldn't, and I agree it's OH's guest so OH to do the bedding. Take off what's on their and stick it in the wash. OH can manage accordingly!

ScarlettDarling · 27/06/2016 20:42

Seriously revolting floggingmolly ?

My 10 year old wouldn't care two hoots if his granny had slept in his the same bedding as him for a couple of nights. He'd certainly not be seriously revolted! Confused

arethereanyleftatall · 27/06/2016 20:44

Bedding is a funny old thing.
I'm lying here in my pjs on my sofa, and will be for about 6 hours. I did the same yesterday and the day before and the day before that.
I haven't washed the sofa covers yet, and we've had various different clothes bottoms on them.
Totally different in you're shagging or sleeping naked, but in pjs, I'm not sure it's necessary to change bedding so fastidiously.

DeathStare · 27/06/2016 20:44

Ask MIL if she could strip the bed. Get DH to remake it

justaweeone · 27/06/2016 20:45

I have standards
But in this instance it's fine
I a sitting with not much on at the moment in the sofa, so should anyone else sit on it ?

AnnaMarlowe · 27/06/2016 20:45

But but but, you have a whole week to change the sheets?

Why wouldn't you?

blueskyinmarch · 27/06/2016 20:45

Oh just leave it. Your second guest will never know. Life is too short and all that.

987flowers · 27/06/2016 20:46

I worked in a b&b which didn't always change the sheets after a 1 night stay if we were busy and they looked clean. This was a well rated establishment too!

Floggingmolly · 27/06/2016 20:46

The bed will have been slept in two months previously and the sheets will remain unchanged, Scarlett. I don't think my standards are that high really, but that's minging.

ThoraGruntwhistle · 27/06/2016 20:46

Change the actual sheet but leave the same duvet cover on?

BennyTheBall · 27/06/2016 20:46

Just change the bed. It will take you 5 minutes.

JohnBarrowmaniac · 27/06/2016 20:53

Check the sheet after the LiL has vacated- if it's not crusty, leave it.

I agree with polaroids on this one. If it was the other way round I wouldn't.

arethereanyleftatall · 27/06/2016 21:00

It isn't just 5 minutes. It's probably 5 minutes to strip a double, including pillows, duvet cover, and paraphernalia. 10 mins to remake including new duvet cover. 5 mins to load washing machine, and turn on. 15 mins to hang washing out to dry. 5 mins to fold and put away. So, about 40 mins, unless I'm really slow.
I know I'm totally over invested in this thread, but we have lots of guests at ours, and it's a subject I often think about.

category12 · 27/06/2016 21:05

Omg, remind me never to stay in anyone's house ever. Or to take my own bedding. Ewww.

christmasmum · 27/06/2016 21:05

What you don't know doesn't hurt you etc... I wouldn't bother but I know I have very low standards compared to most MN users!

PurpleThursday · 27/06/2016 21:05

An extra top sheet (under the duvet) really does solve this problem - whip it off after MIL has stayed and if a double bed switch all the pillows about, or change pillow cases if you really must. It's fine. Piss head will be grateful for an inviting place to lay drunk head.

RortyCrankle · 27/06/2016 21:08

It's a bit manky OP .

BennyTheBall · 27/06/2016 21:12

I wasn't talking about the washing/drying etc.

I was talking about the stripping and remaking of a bed, having been to the airing cupboard to get a ready-to-go set of bedding.

Dh and I can do this easily in five minutes. We have weekend guests almost constantly (or it feels like it) and we have about 5 sets of bedding for the guest room.

I would hate to think I was sleeping in a not fresh bed and wouldn't dream of doing it to my guests.

Haggisfish · 27/06/2016 21:12

Meh. Yanbu. Bet mil wears pjs so no risk of pubes. Are you going to change and wash chair covers as well? Just don't get the clean hysteria so prevalent in here. What's more, I may even give him her towel?!! Unwashed!!!
