To ask why JC won't resign for the good of the party

AndNowItsSeven · 26/06/2016 18:07

Could anyone explain why JC won't resign given that Labour has a strong chance of winning a possible Autumn general election, if but only if Labour has a strong leader.

I just noticed: Murdoch is already running ruining the nation and has been for some time.

BrandNewAndImproved · 30/06/2016 22:12

60,000 new members have joined the labour party this week in support of JC.

I'm quite young but I've never heard of this happening before. JC may not appeal to everyone but he has a strong support outside the plp.

FrameyMcFrame · 30/06/2016 22:21

Constituent Labour parties are reporting that people are joining to vote against JC as well as for him.

He polls very badly.

There's no support for him on the doorstep with voters

TheDuchessOfKidderminster · 30/06/2016 22:25

I'm thinking of joining purely to vote for the anti Corbyn candidate - I won't be the only one.

Look up what happened to the Labour Party under the leadership of Michael Foot - slightly before my time but it took the best part of 20 years before they were electable again. I suspect it will be even longer this time around.

I was thinking of joining to vote against him. I can't be the only one.

Well, I just joined the party, specifically so I can vote against him if there is an election (yes I know I won't be able to vote in that for a while yet). I supported Corbyn last leadership election but now I am afraid of what Corbyn's supporters are doing to the party and what they could do to the country. The Ruth Smeeth incident yesterday was disgusting antisemetism and nobody seems to give a shit (not on MN, but on other media like my FB feed).

I have a friend who works in HoP and she said Momentum are behaving like thugs, crowding round Corbyn and bullying anybody who challenges him. The hard left at the minute is not much better than the right I'm afraid. And I say that as a lifelong, left-leaning, Labour voter.

X post bessie!

Me too Lady A

BessieBraddocksEgg · 01/07/2016 10:38

Hey it's a movement!

snapcrap · 01/07/2016 10:41

I've just joined the Labour party, partly to have any kind of voice telling JC to feck off, partly because I've always supported Labour and it seems rather timely right now and I want to make sure we have a strong opposition going forward. Where do people get the idea thousands of people are joining Labour to support Corbyn!

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 01/07/2016 10:45

I think he appeals to students who feel they can change the world

Its a real shame so many didn't bother to vote last week

Thisismyalias · 01/07/2016 10:47

Three main myths;

anotherangryvoice.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/jeremy-corbyn-3-main-myths.html?m=1

LadyAntonella · 01/07/2016 10:49

Those three main myths^^ aren't why I would vote against him FWIW.

SonicSpotlight · 01/07/2016 10:57

Yawn. He can't get the support of his own MPs who are, though his supporters don't believe this, Labour through and through. He can't get the support of many Labour members who are forking out cash to the Party. How can any rational person believe that he can get the support of the swing voters Labour need to be elected?

Labour didn't do well at the last election even though the Lib Dems haemorrhaged votes. Labour didn't pick up enough of them. The next time around the Lib Dems will do better. They've already got a new promise Grin. To win an election Labour needs voters who have voted Conservative or Lib Dem to vote Labour.

CreamCrackerundertheSettee · 01/07/2016 12:09

Why hasn't anyone stood against him yet? Surely he cannot carry on now??

apricotdanish · 01/07/2016 12:43

As regards the Ruth Smeeth incident, if you view the footage you will see the heckler criticised her for being in cahoots with The Telegraph, after apparently seeing her talking to reporters from that paper beforehand, he made no anti-Semitic comments, watch the YouTube footage of the event and you'll see this.

LadyAntonella · 01/07/2016 12:44

apricot I've seen it, I posted it in the News section on here. Collusion with the press is something Jewish people have been accused of for years. It was that which was part of the antisemetism.

LadyAntonella · 01/07/2016 12:45

Now of course the guy who made the comment is denying he even knew Ruth Smeeth is Jewish Hmm.

peachpudding · 01/07/2016 12:50

Corbyn is controlled by the Momentum party and he really isnt to bothered what happens to the Labour party. Prime minister is the last thing he wants to achieve, its all about the protest. I imagine he would be quite happy it there was a split and Momentum took over completely leaving the hard core left to be purely radical protest movement.

LadyAntonella · 01/07/2016 12:54

Do people really not get that? JC compared Israel to so-called IS, Ruth Smeeth challenged him and was shouted down because she is 'probably colluding with the press'. That is fucking disgusting antisemetism. Not just JC's comments, the comment which followed too.

apricotdanish · 01/07/2016 12:56

I don't want to get into an argument so will have to respectfully agree to disagree, as to my ears and via the subsequent explanation I've read, the comment did not sound anti-Semitic. I think it's dangerous to leap to such assumptions, in such situations. He made no reference to her faith.

LadyAntonella · 01/07/2016 12:59

Well, respectfully, since you clearly had no idea which part of his comment could have been (and was by many) interpreted as antisemetic then I don't really think you're in a position to state your opinion on it with such authority.

sorenofthejnaii · 01/07/2016 13:00

JC compared Israel to so-called IS

Did he? I heard him say that linking the actions of the Israeli Government to the Jewish people is like linking so called IS to that of Islam.

I don't think that's comparing IS to Israel. I think it's saying the the actions of one group cannot be used to label the entire group. It may not have been a good choice of words but I honestly don't think he's comparing the Israeli Government to so called IS.

However, there are probably better analogies to use.

LadyAntonella · 01/07/2016 13:02

Sorry, yes I was abbreviating as typing too quickly - JC did not directly compare Israel with so called IS to. It was a very poor choice of analogy.
