To ask what leavers have against Poles?

I keep on seeing posts complaining about Poles (hardworking, young and pay more taxes than they take out). Why?? Most Poles go back after a few years anyway! I know people say it was not a racist decision - so I don't get it. A good proportion of the pensioners in Spain will be back when pensions are frozen and they DO use the NHS and other resources more due to age. So why are they preferable if not rac ism?

I'd be interested in an answer to a question up thread about the effect on Poland of all the young hard working people choosing to come to the UK to earn a living?

And all the doctors from other countries who choose to come and work inthe UK.

What effect does it have on their own countries?

I think plenty of ex-pats choose to live abroad for economic reasons - Cost of living in many (not all) EC countries is substantially lower than the UK but they can still draw their UK state pension. Simple maths -if your winter heating bill is £50 in Greece compared with £300 in the UK and property is also cheaper- how can it not be cheaper to live as an ex-pat on the same limited income ?

Spain won't kick them out but if their pensions are frozen it is likely they will have to come back.

No, I don't know every Pole in the country but I do read migration statistics so know that the average Polish worker is young and employed.

I have never said I thought all leavers were racist (in fact I have said the opposite) but I really don't see how the view "it's about resources/benefits etc" can apply to a group which pays more taxes than it takes out.

I suspect the real reason is more like what Gah says - people just don't like a group of foreigners changing the demographics of their local area.

Wallis you might be right there, but the fact remains we are stuck with those people,

Shock

I can't believe it's acceptable to you to encourage that hate speech.

If it was racism, rather than classism, you'd fall over yourself to condemn it.

You do realise that most of those haters are jobless, usually toothless, curd chewing Jeremy 'Vile' types and these are the one who were the majority Leave voters.
To say that British public have spoken- is quite sad- when this public is made of (majority) such idiots.

Interesting you think half the british population are like this.

OP, can you answer my earlier question?

Currently, non EU nationals can get a UK visa if they earn more than they take out. You say that earning more applies to the Polish. So why would the UK prevent them coming?

What makes you think that the Polish will be put under a draconian ban from the UK that applies to no other nationality?

" Come working cash in hand, don't pay taxes and work for below min wage while sending the money back to Poland. "

I am afraid that that is largely true, and add to that, living ten to a room and not engaging at all with the wider society.
however I cannot agree that they should all be 'sent away'. Not the ones that are doing PAYE and NI or who have started their own above board businesses.

I have nothing against polish people. My vote was based on many factors about the EU constitution, institutions and scope creep that we have failed to veto. Don't think that all leave voters (or even very many) are the same people the BBC are interviewing to validate their remain position and biased reporting. Most people I know that voted leave have done so for very sound reasons

or maybe ex pats choose to immigrate because it is peaceful and they want to live the rest of their lives in the sun since they worked all their lives in the city.
I mean it couldnt be that reason it has to be a reason which suits your agenda.

I had OP down as a pretty straight poster.

Difference is common wealth countries built the UK. Lets not forget who the crown jewels belong too.

I'm not inventing it. I have already said it was in FB. And it was posted by family so I am not outing them on here!

Almond - I never said that there would be a ban? I asked why people didn't want them. And I directed this at leavers because all the posts I had read were regarding why we should leave. I have actually had quite a few sensible answers in this thread that explain why. So thanks for those!

on the other hand sunset, Polish people helped save Europe from the Mongol hordes by holding them off at the gates of Vienna under the command of Sobieski.

also, it was two young Polish mathematicians who finally cracked Enigma.

If you want to get all historical.

But what does that have to do with jewels stolen from India which made the UK rich? Do you think the UK would be so great if it didn't steal jewels from India and Africa?
Where are the jewels in Poland ?
Africans and Indians also fought in WW1 and WW2 and were offered to stay or invited here to stay to help clean up.
You cannot compare.

I've seen plenty of shockingly xenophobic Brexit victory posts on my dp's timeline - he showed me in disgust and disbelief. A personal favourite being a photo of what looks like refugees in a dangerously overcrowded dinghy with some caption telling Poles to fuck off (although apparently they're annoyed at now having to wash their own car Hmm ).
