To ask what leavers have against Poles?

I keep on seeing posts complaining about Poles (hardworking, young and pay more taxes than they take out). Why?? Most Poles go back after a few years anyway! I know people say it was not a racist decision - so I don't get it. A good proportion of the pensioners in Spain will be back when pensions are frozen and they DO use the NHS and other resources more due to age. So why are they preferable if not rac ism?

Another naive post assuming wrongly that all leavers are racist idiots!

OP, why didn't you mention in your OP that the posts you were referring to, where on a completely different website? Confused

And what did those people say when you questioned those posts?

I am amazed you know every "pole" in this country. How did you manage to get to know everyone and their life story?

You could ask what Poland has against refugees and the answers could be the same. Personally nothing but either do not want the changes or fearful of the changes. I live in an area with only professional migrants, German, French, Swedish but strangely they are never referred to as migrants probably a snobbery thing.

Are we not allowed to say "Pole"?

I thought Polish was an adjective and Pole a noun, broadly speaking.

Our town has many, many Eastern Europeans and they are welcomed. But we voted remain

hmm...i dont have anything against, well anyone. BUT i do feel a little Hmm that a Polish worker i recruited now not only recruits Polish people for her team, but freely admits its because she feels more comfortable with her own people, even though in interviews other non-Polish have been far better. Its actually caused a lot of bad feeling with other employees and i wouldnt be at all surprised if that factored into decisions tl vote leave, misplaced as it may be

On the question of OAPs returning and using the NHS, most people don't realise a lot of them do anyway. I work in a seaside area where a lot of hoteliers and others in seasonal trades bought apartments/villas back in the boom years to spend the off-season and, after retirement, spend, most of the year there. Many of them come back on a 3 or 6 monthly basis for their health management checks, get medication on the NHS (which they tell me they prefer as they don't pay here and are entitled to it!) then fly back. I also know older people who live in Spain but in recent years have flown back and had knee replacements and all sorts on the NHS here

I think it's more to do with the company you keep.

Most of my other neighbours think my nearest neighbour is Polish -she's actually Lithuanian (which historically has being occupied by Poland in the past). She - like most of the young Eastern Europeans I know/work with - works hard and keeps herself to herself although is friendly when I see her in the street. My OH works with a mix of mainly Polish and British workers. No prizes for guessing which work harder and are more reliable . (My OH is pure British).

I probably have some Polish heritage as my grandparents came to Britain as young emigrants fleeing the pogroms of Lithuania. My Mum was Irish -and came here aged 19 and made a life here. I've studied at university . worked in middle and higher management positions . So I'm unlikely to be a racist,or thick or disaffected so I am like most of the leave voters and don't fit those comforting stereotypes the remain supporters are trying to shoehorn everyone else into. I believe most leave voters reasons are similar to Corcory despite what the media are trying to imply to the gormless who think if it's on TV/In the Sun -it must be true.

I also have no issue with Polish people whatsoever. I don't know any personally but all the Polish I have had any dealings with day to day in shops/businesses have been perfectly lovely.

But that is not the point.

By the way what do remain voters have against non Europeans? < THIS

and the Oaps in Spain have money and retired their with their money so they pay a lot more into the Spanish system, they do not claim houses, benefits and pay for their NHS with taxes. People do not retire to other countries when they are broke.
Secondly If they are in Spain why are you mentioning polish? If the Spanish don't have a problem with the Oaps then why do you?

Compare the oaps when the retire in Poland.

It isn't about individual nationalities. It is about NUMBERS.

I do wish Remainers could get this through their heads. We have no control of numbers now but when we Leave we can change this.

Perhaps they are jealous of the good qualities the Polish people have?
Hard working people they are just like most foreigners in this country.

You do realise that most of those haters are jobless, usually toothless, curd chewing Jeremy 'Vile' types and these are the one who were the majority Leave voters.
To say that British public have spoken- is quite sad- when this public is made of (majority) such idiots.

scatterolight Numbers? Well (according to Brexit), Commonwealth citizens will be able to come here easily, Confused and that little man Farage had the nerve to say '' more Black people will be allowed to come to the UK after Brexit''. And you are talking numbers?

Maybe not, but they do often choose to live where their pensions afford them a higher standard of living. If the £ falls against the €, and when the current reciprocal health care and social security arrangements we enjoy as EU citizens are removed, they will be reassessing their situation.

Report
WallisSimpson11 · 25/06/2016 14:24

I DID NOT say 52% are all racists- Most of the 52% (it could be 30%) most certainly made up of people with xenophobic and to an extent racist sentiments- you only have to watch the interviews and read the press.

We have no control of numbers now but when we Leave we can change this.

Well, we don't know. If we want to negotiate similar trade agreements as held by Norway, Switzerland and Iceland, then we will have to accept free movement of Labour. If we don't want that, and regard control of immigration more important then we will have to pay higher trade tariffs, with the EU .

MariaSklodowska · 25/06/2016 14:24

Wallis that is incredibly insulting and tbh comments and attitudes like that that led to many people voting 'out'.

So are you saying that 52 per cent of the British public who voted are "toothless, curd chewing Jeremy 'Vile' types"? Really?

When I was growing up there were quite a few polish people who had stayed on or returned after the war. Scots are rather fond of polish people in my experience.

Well please DO link. Just one or two.

We're not asking rhetorically. We're interested to see who has said what.

Wallis you might be right there, but the fact remains we are stuck with those people, we've created that monster and we should be putting our energies into bringing them out a culture of hopelessness, entitlement, benefit dependency, apathy and low aspiration.

Having a never ending supply of cheap and efficient labour from elsewhere does nothing to force us to address the problem of the people you describe.
