I voted Leave but don't deserve abuse for it !!!!

Yesterday I voted to leave after months of thought about all the main issues regarding membership.

I decided to leave based on sovereignty, I don't want a closer EU/United States Of Europe. I don't want my son to be in an EU army.

Immigration and economics for me were lesser issues. But still influenced my vote.

The names on here and Twitter that have been directed at leave voters has astonished me.

I am not uneducated, racist or xenophobic. I simply want the best for my country and that IMO is leave and I am overjoyed with the victory today against all odds.

Maybe if those on the remain side looked more into the arguments instead of name calling it would have been a different result.

It shocks me that labour supporters on Twitter are saying these horrible names against leave voters, but they need us to get their seats in the north, I don't think it is a good idea to insult your own base.

Even on mumsnet rhetoric has been appalling, I have had posters say they can't bring themselves to speak to leave voting parents.

Why can't you just accept maybe that leave possibly has a better campaign/arguments.

This idea that many leave voters regret the vote is wrong, everyone I know who voted leave is in a joyous mode today.

Can we just move on now and accept the result instead of insulting 52% of the population.

Obama has already said he wants to have a strong relationship and trade with the U.K.

Since Obama will be long gone by the time any Brexit happens, what do you think that has to do with anything? He can want whatever he likes. He'll be in no position to make it happen.

Cherryguitar · 25/06/2016 15:11

I have sympathy for user1466861319 being in a disadvantaged economic position. user1466861319 Are you able to work? Why can you not afford to rent a home, are you ill? Using the term 'remove' when talking about human beings sounds deeply unpleasant and goes to show how the Brexit propaganda has managed to make the most disadvantaged people in the UK believe their lives will be better by hating of one another.

I cannot help but be reminded of how things were in the years before Hitler was elected. The Jews were the scape goats, now it's the European immigrants that have to be removed. Disgusting.

User, I can't believe morons like you got a vote. Wish we could remove your citizenship & ship you off to a camp

Cherryguitar · 25/06/2016 15:16

ah, i take back about having sympathy for user1466861319. Reported. What an idiotic troll.

ToastDemon · 25/06/2016 15:17

Revoke citizenship??? How fucking dare you?
I am a naturalised British citizen. And I consider this to be of equal standing to anyone else's citizenship. What a foul, ignorant opinion you hold.

MissDuke · 25/06/2016 15:17

user I wonder if we can find somewhere to ship people with attitudes like yours off too? Would certainly be a better place without such hatred!

Cherryguitar · 25/06/2016 15:17

or send user1466861319 to a victorian style workhouse? if he cannot pay his own upkeep i mean?

Somerville · 25/06/2016 15:17

Good luck with that one. It's about as likely as Leaving stopping asylum seekers from arriving.

Cherry user is, realistically, some manner of troll, but there's a wider point to be made about sympathising with people in a difficult position. That's valid up to a point. However, anyone with an internet connection and the ability to read and write could've used it to educate themselves about what's actually likely to happen wrt immigration if we leave. It's a pretty rich irony that we're likely to end up having to agree free movement in order to be allowed access to the single market, like Norway and Switzerland have, but not have a say on it. Or any of the transitional provisions we had as a member! People who have access to information do have to take some responsibility for the decisions they make.

MissDuke · 25/06/2016 15:19

toast thankfully that extreme attitude is very much in the minority, don't think you will find too many here supporting that view!

I've reported too, User. Racism has no place here.

ToastDemon · 25/06/2016 15:21

Thanks MissDuke, I really shouldn't take the bait should I? It's frustrating though - I've paid high taxes for 16 years, I'm from a Commonwealth background and both parents fought in the second world war.... I've not had such a thing said to me in all the years I've been in the UK but apparently now it's acceptable. Sad times, really.

Cherryguitar · 25/06/2016 15:21

reported.

Badders123 · 25/06/2016 15:23

Im glad we live in a democracy
I'm glad you got the chance to vote for what you believed in.
However, what you believe in is also what farage, trump, Putin and le pen and their ilk all believe in too, so that's where we part company.
England will be a very very different place in a few months and I'm not sure I what to be here to see it.
Luckily I have dual citizenship so will still have free movement to live and study in the EU for my children.
It's fine to be happy with the result you voted for.
It's not fine to wilfully refuse to see that people are scared....really really scared for the future.
I don't condone name calling, but feelings are running very high and it will get worse.
Hate crime and racism will increase rapidly as the far right now think they have a mandate from the British people.
I'm scared.
And sad.
And bewildered.
But We all have to move on and hope for better times.

ToastDemon · 25/06/2016 15:23

Should read grandparents a bit ragey there to think properly it would seem.

Somerville · 25/06/2016 15:24

I've seen more racism on social media in the last 36 hours than I have in the whole rest of my life prior to this. What is happening to our country?

On the subject of keeping free movement, this interview with the pro-Brexit MEP Daniel Hannan is a must watch, particularly for those of you reading (and there must be plenty) who think your out vote is going to stop EEA immigration.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-36628894

In fairness to Daniel, this isn't the first time he as an individual has said this, but it certainly wasn't something the Leave campaign focused on. They allowed people to believe they were voting for an end to European workers coming to the UK. Lots did. Take a walk around the internets if you don't believe me. Get angry. I would, if I were you. I'm not, because I didn't vote Leave and if I had it would've been nothing to do with immigration, because I know that's not going anywhere. But you should. You've been sold a pup. The best bit, btw, is that if we do like Norway and stay in the EEA, we won't even get a say on EU expansion.

And he's probably right, you know. Boris is probably going to be the one doing the negotiating. He doesn't want us leaving the EEA. He didn't particularly want us to leave the EU, let's be honest. If you think he's going to go and commit further economic suicide play hardball and try to pull us out of the single market entirely, I've got a beach property in Barnsley I'd like to sell you.

user1466861319 · 25/06/2016 15:28

Working Class English waking up to the fake Labour and the left doesn't care about them.

They see the left wanting to bring in and house migrants before helping the working class English.

CaptainHammer · 25/06/2016 15:28

ToastDemon Luckily that stupid trolls view is not the view of the majority. You are very much welcome here.

I'm sad that the majority (that I've seen) of vote leave people have voted based on lies and scaremongering by the likes of certain twats like Farage and The Sun.

TheLionSleepsAha · 25/06/2016 15:28

I would like to mention that my children are mixed race but I voted leave, as did my mixed race relatives. I hate racism but we're all filled with hope for a better country, the political elite has forgotten the lower classes for so long.
