I voted Leave but don't deserve abuse for it !!!!

Yesterday I voted to leave after months of thought about all the main issues regarding membership.

I decided to leave based on sovereignty, I don't want a closer EU/United States Of Europe. I don't want my son to be in an EU army.

Immigration and economics for me were lesser issues. But still influenced my vote.

The names on here and Twitter that have been directed at leave voters has astonished me.

I am not uneducated, racist or xenophobic. I simply want the best for my country and that IMO is leave and I am overjoyed with the victory today against all odds.

Maybe if those on the remain side looked more into the arguments instead of name calling it would have been a different result.

It shocks me that labour supporters on Twitter are saying these horrible names against leave voters, but they need us to get their seats in the north, I don't think it is a good idea to insult your own base.

Even on mumsnet rhetoric has been appalling, I have had posters say they can't bring themselves to speak to leave voting parents.

Why can't you just accept maybe that leave possibly has a better campaign/arguments.

This idea that many leave voters regret the vote is wrong, everyone I know who voted leave is in a joyous mode today.

Can we just move on now and accept the result instead of insulting 52% of the population.

Link this is where I read it.

BonerSibary · 25/06/2016 14:12

It's ok though, Ian Paisley Jr has told everyone to just get Irish passports.

TheLionSleepsAha · 25/06/2016 14:16

I voted leave. What a lot of angry people don't realise is that a lot of people have been negatively affected by EU policies. Open door immigration has put huge pressure on public services and housing, something Cameron, Blair and co weren't bothered about. Fine if you're a wealthy liberal in London with your own property.

I can't wait for house prices to fall and rents to fall, there are a lot of people hoping to get homes and jobs. I'm sorry that some people will lose jobs, but in a democracy you go with the majority and the people have spoken. Maybe if the government and EU had been bothered about the underclass previously then this wouldn't have happened. £100m extra per week will go to NHS and no vat on utility bills, falling housing costs, all good for a lot of people.

Somerville · 25/06/2016 14:22

TheLionSleeps - Did you see Daniel Hannan on Newsnight last night? He suggests the Norwegian model would be best, with continued freedom of movement. He claimed that most leave voters didn't vote on the basis of immigration. Confused

I disagree with you entirely. But if I held your views I would be throughly fucked off with the Tory right, who spun lies about lowering immigration and getting more houses and more jobs and are now immediately, unashamedly backtracking.

BonerSibary · 25/06/2016 14:23

What do you think voting Leave is going to do to alleviate the problems you feel have been caused by immigration? And where did you find out about this extra £100 million a week for the NHS?

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 25/06/2016 14:25

twofingers
Sorry lovey, I'll post where/what I like

quasibex · 25/06/2016 14:31

Anyone who voted leave deserves every bit of verbal/written abuse they get. You have destroyed the hope of a better future for my children and you now have to deal with the guilt and fallout for the rest of your life. Don't like it. Tough!

TheLionSleepsAha · 25/06/2016 14:34

Somerville I dislike the Tories. But for the first time in a long time a lot of people have hope for the future, which we didn't have previously. If it all messes up in coming years, if it's all lies then it's no worse than Cameron, Blair et al. That's the great thing about democracy though, we can vote Boris and co out if needs be.

I have hope for the future and I hope my children will be able to afford to rent and buy.a house, get a job etc.

TheLionSleepsAha · 25/06/2016 14:38

£100m could be used on NHS

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-36450749

I know it could turn out to be rubbish, but then they get voted out. Even if it was only £50m it's better than it was.

TheLionSleepsAha · 25/06/2016 14:40

I'd like a points based immigration system, so any shortages of certain skills could be addressed without the open door policy of the EU.

Globetrotter100 · 25/06/2016 14:42

£100m extra per week will go to NHS

Not fact. Not even vaguely likely, based on historical UK government spending patterns that are, by definition, fact.

Actually bullshit.

user1466861319 · 25/06/2016 14:45

Why do people think house prices falling means they will be able to buy a house?

House prices fall people in NEG equity don't sell and just hold on, Also economy is bad so banks don't issue mortgages.

Look at the likes of Ireland during the finical downturn, most people kept houses rented them cause not worth selling in Neg Equity people couldn't get a mortage to buy anyway only the already rich with cash could buy house cheap to rent them out.

Also new housing is not built as it cost more to build the house then for what it would sell for.

TheLionSleepsAha · 25/06/2016 14:47

Oh well it's a democracy, the people have chosen, I've heard a lot of accusations that leave voters are thick, uneducated, racist, mentally ill etc. Maybe the accusers could move to Zimbabwe or North Korea so that they don't have to abide by the will of the people.

Somerville · 25/06/2016 14:47

Ah okay.

Well as I say, I disagree with all your reasoning. But I can see why people who felt they had nothing anyway and politics seemed unfair and shit voted this way. Particularly if they have no vested interest in/bother about the UK staying together and peace in the north of Ireland.

But, if I may ask, what do you think about the immediate downturn in our economy, which was predicted and has now happened? Do you think that if it continues, also as predicted, it will be those who already own their own houses and have good jobs who suffer the most? My experience of every other recession has been quite the opposite. The haves can ride it out, with their savings and the grooves her their heads. They also tend to be more mobile and able to travel to follow economic opportunities. And able to get private healthcare or a tutor in for their DC when there is less money for public services. It's the most vulnerable who always suffer the most.

jellybeans · 25/06/2016 14:51

Yabu I am so angry that people can inflict this upon us. Life's hard enough without what we have to come now.

user1466861319 · 25/06/2016 14:52

Working class here, I was never going to be able to buy a house, even if the house prices drop I know it will be even harder to buy a house due to people holding onto neg equity house and harder to get mortgages.. the chance for me to get a house is the immigrants being removed freeing up council stock so there is a chance for me to be housed.

blinkowl · 25/06/2016 14:55

"the chance for me to get a house is the immigrants being removed freeing up council stock so there is a chance for me to be housed."

How about not giving power to the hard right, who want to get rid of council house g?

How about voting for left wing politicians who believe in building social housing, doesn't that male a bit more sense?

user1466861319 · 25/06/2016 14:59

No cause I don't want communism, I like freedom of speech to much, if we removed the migrants we would have plenty of council stock.

Our current left wing Labour don't care about the English working class, they care about the current PC issues of letting in as many refugees as possible.

Our left was supposed to be about the working class English but they abandoned it.

JuneFromBethesda · 25/06/2016 15:03

You really think the Tories care about the working class??? You think Boris Johnson gives a shiny shit about anyone but himself?

Cherryguitar · 25/06/2016 15:03

"The chance for me to get a house is the immigrants being removed"

Cool. Let's remove people based on their ethnicity not based on need, shall we. Charming. Hmm

They care more about the English working class then Labour does.

Unfortunately we have no center or center-left parties, the left is too left to care about the Native English people, at least the right care about the British.

TheLionSleepsAha · 25/06/2016 15:08

Somerville the pound dropped initially because they'd assumed a remain win, from what I understand it improved as the day went on. Obama has already said he wants to have a strong relationship and trade with the U.K. A weaker pound will help our exports. I don't have a holiday abroad and nor do a lot of people so only issue on exchange rates is imports. I don't buy a lot though, rarely get new clothes etc, I buy food but not bothered by a small increase. At my old workplace there were very few British left, largely because it was cheaper to employ immigrants. I think it was about three out of fifty, then I got made redundant. i don't claim benefits as I do all sorts of self employed work, I'm quite low paid though. There would be less completion for me if there were less people looking for the same jobs.

PerpendicularVincent · 25/06/2016 15:08

Just came back to the thread and saw your response to my post, Sharia.

Disappointingly, it's xenophobic twaddle.

BonerSibary · 25/06/2016 15:09

the chance for me to get a house is the immigrants being removed freeing up council stock so there is a chance for me to be housed.

What makes you think they're going to be removed, though? You can't even bank on us getting rid of free movement if we leave, let alone sending existing EU migrants back. Quite a lot of them have taken British citizenship already, you know!
