I voted Leave but don't deserve abuse for it !!!!

Yesterday I voted to leave after months of thought about all the main issues regarding membership.

I decided to leave based on sovereignty, I don't want a closer EU/United States Of Europe. I don't want my son to be in an EU army.

Immigration and economics for me were lesser issues. But still influenced my vote.

The names on here and Twitter that have been directed at leave voters has astonished me.

I am not uneducated, racist or xenophobic. I simply want the best for my country and that IMO is leave and I am overjoyed with the victory today against all odds.

Maybe if those on the remain side looked more into the arguments instead of name calling it would have been a different result.

It shocks me that labour supporters on Twitter are saying these horrible names against leave voters, but they need us to get their seats in the north, I don't think it is a good idea to insult your own base.

Even on mumsnet rhetoric has been appalling, I have had posters say they can't bring themselves to speak to leave voting parents.

Why can't you just accept maybe that leave possibly has a better campaign/arguments.

This idea that many leave voters regret the vote is wrong, everyone I know who voted leave is in a joyous mode today.

Can we just move on now and accept the result instead of insulting 52% of the population.

How am I supposed to vote based on other people. I can only vote based on my own circumstances. If others may lose their jobs that's up to them to vote based on that.

Gotta love this - how am I supposed to use my brain to consider the impact of my ill thought out position on others? How am I supposed to base my actions on anything but lousy self-interest?

And for the record: European army - was never happening and what you've denied your son is the right to live, work, love, study in 27 other countries so I hope this little England you've saved for him turns out just peachy!

ohfourfoxache · 24/06/2016 23:46

There are some very nasty people on here tonight. No matter how upset you feel you have no right to act as playground bullies towards people who have exercised their democratic rights. Shame on you.

This. A million fucking times over Angry

Mozismyhero · 24/06/2016 23:48

Yes, you do.

ghostyslovesheep · 24/06/2016 23:49

Horsey so on this thread people are not allowed to object to leavers expressing the following?

excitement that 'we' can no 'NUKE Islam'?

that we can 'brick up the (Euro) tunnel

That we can shoot anyone trying to enter the UK

Because that is what has been said (and deleted by HQ) and over my rotting festering corpse will I sit back and let that shit stand

You wont the vote - well done - I respect the democratic decision - but on NO LEVEL does that mean I will stand back and not challenge bullshit racist bollox when I see it - thanks :)

ghostyslovesheep · 24/06/2016 23:50

Now and won btw - (Russian) Vodka has been drunk!

LondonKiwiMummy · 24/06/2016 23:50

OK no abuse then for Leave voters. But as a Leave voter you have certain responsibilities to us Remain voters.

No whinging when your job, or your husband's job, or your mate's jobs, get cut. And there's no jobs for your kids. Because we're all collectively economically fucked now, thanks to you. Own it. It's the price of freedom!

No whinging about having to move back from Spain to miserable old Havering (because actually you're not like an "immigrant" from a foreign country, but an ex pat, and thus deserve special treatment from other countries that you won't give to EU nationals in your own) or waiting a long time in the non EU passport queue at Benidorm airport or the cost of your holiday money, because that's just annoying.

No whinging when you don't actually get all the stuff that was promised to you as immigration isn't going down, the NHS isn't getting £350m a week, ETC and there's no one to collect from on the bill of goods you were sold since they were not an actual government. We told you it was a pack of lies, and you didn't listen. Hey ho, these things happen, eh Boris?

No whinging when your pro leave - voting area that is a massive shithole no one can be arsed investing in loses all its EU grants and wants to take its begging bowl to the UK government and gets turned down as no one actually promised to make good those payments (looking at you cheeky Cornwall chappies!)

No whinging when against all expectation it turns out the EU bods are pretty fucking pissed off about us giving them two fingers to their long term economic and political plan to bring stability and peace to Europe and fancy giving us a bit of a shit deal. Or no deal. They can do that too.

So yes. A lot of stiff upper lip please Leave voters. Britannia needs you to stand firm in the face of adversity.

[PS Sorry Cornwall: you are actually very lovely and not a shithole at all - but very naughty to vote out and expect compensation!]

SpringerS · 24/06/2016 23:52

I'm not British and no longer live or own property in Britain and I'm damn thankful for it today. I don't know how I'd cope if I was. Leave voters are idiots of the highest order who have just ruined millions of people's lives. Like seriously, you have just fucked over yourself, your children and every single one of you neighbours. You've literally taken money out of their pockets, opportunities out of their present and future lives and security from their future. Why are you surprised with their anger? You comments show that you are clearly uneducated about what you voted for yet felt entitled to react in a way that could literally spoil their lives. Of course they are furious. This may well be something you regret forever. On the otherhand, Britain are still quite unlikely to actually leave the EU as the referendum has no legal status and there is little political will to leave. It was a failed bluff and you can bet your ass most of your MPs are currently trying to work out how to pull it back.

And you better hope they do because if you don't want your son to die in some fictional, never going to happen EU army, you need to get real? You know, you live in a country that has an active, aggressive army? Well. He's far more likely to die in some future war now. The historically unprecedented peace in Europe was brought about by the EU and it's predecessor organisations. If the union breaks apart because of this idiocy, war in Europe is far more likely than whatever fictional war you got yourself afraid of. Who do you think this crazy EU army was going to fight? The bogeyman? Aliens? Russia? Well the latter is more likely today than ever because with a total dingbat like Putin in charge of Russia a strong Europe was essential. If he perceives us as weak, then he might well start annexing more than just bits of the Ukraine. So you just made that thing you were frightened of all the more likely.

doraexploradora · 24/06/2016 23:54

you won't get my abuse. You do get my pity. You've illuded yourself and have been lied to. It will get mightfully tough very very soon and I presume (yes, I'll take the risk) you don't have the luxury to afford immigrating to a EU country. Austerity will be worse than before.

sit tight and good luck

ohgoshIdontknow · 24/06/2016 23:55

All these vitriolic Bremainers hoping Britain's fucked now so they can say 'I told you so' says everything you need to know about them

allyjay · 24/06/2016 23:56

Mum, I'm not going to do anything. I live in a big house and have a large income. I didn't vote for me, because I'm ace thanks, but I voted for my children's generation and for those less fortunate than me.

Permanentlyexhausted · 25/06/2016 00:00

Excellent post, SpringerS

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 25/06/2016 00:00

Me too ally

But I'm not going round calling people names

MelanieCheeks · 25/06/2016 00:01

Why are we angry/ upset/ surprised?

What Janie said.

For me personally, I can't see what the leave camp are proposing. I know where we are (were) with the eu, and I could see the pros and cons.
Outside it, we are in totally uncharted waters. That may be good - for who? The working class who feel they have no voice? Or the corporate tycoons? Who knows.

As a remain voter, I am angry and upset that the country I thought I belonged to -welcoming, diverse, forward looking, co-operative, globally engaged. Is none of those things.

TheElementsSong · 25/06/2016 00:02

All these vitriolic Bremainers hoping Britain's fucked now so they can say 'I told you so' says everything you need to know about them

Perfect, if post-Brexit UK doesn't turn out to be the greatest thing evah, it'll be all the fault of those bitter Remainers wishing it. All we need is positive thinking Hmm

allyjay · 25/06/2016 00:02

Bloody good for you Mum

BumWad · 25/06/2016 00:02

I'm with you OP.

There are some absolute CUNTS out there today, on MN, Twitter etc.

You have a right to vote for who you like and I for one respect that.

Some of the hysteria is absolutely fucking ridiculous.

Salmotrutta · 25/06/2016 00:05

I've not name-called.

I'm genuinely puzzled that the "Leave" vote won.

It has made me very uncomfortable with regard to people's views.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 25/06/2016 00:08

We are vitriolic but for good reason ..,

TheElementsSong · 25/06/2016 00:11

I don't think I've shouted, sworn or called names on MN or any other social media. I may have hurt some feelings by not being sufficiently thrilled?

horseygeorgie1 · 25/06/2016 00:12

Ghosty

You have no idea of the way I voted.

I haven't seen the deleted posts so can't answer that one, I am only commenting on what I have seen.

StrangeLookingParasite · 25/06/2016 00:13

it is clear that the EU is bad for our security, look at all the terrorism in France Germany and Brussels.

This has to be one of the most outstandingly stupid things I've read today, and the competition has been stiff.

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 25/06/2016 00:13

allyjay
I'm sorry I'm really bloody angry now (after wine) but I do think brexiters are thick, stupid, xenophobic and racist. And I don't care if I hurt your sensibilities. I almost can't wait for the weeks and months to come as this becomes clear.

Just a reminder

And you are a parent? Poor kids

Permanentlyexhausted · 25/06/2016 00:18

And you are a parent? Poor kids

So if you don't actually call someone a 'name', it's okay to insult them then?

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 25/06/2016 00:21

I'm not insulting anyone, I genuinely think 'poor kids'! Calling people who vote the opposite way 'thick' or 'racist' is vile.... I worry for kids with parents this small minded
