I voted Leave but don't deserve abuse for it !!!!

Yesterday I voted to leave after months of thought about all the main issues regarding membership.

I decided to leave based on sovereignty, I don't want a closer EU/United States Of Europe. I don't want my son to be in an EU army.

Immigration and economics for me were lesser issues. But still influenced my vote.

The names on here and Twitter that have been directed at leave voters has astonished me.

I am not uneducated, racist or xenophobic. I simply want the best for my country and that IMO is leave and I am overjoyed with the victory today against all odds.

Maybe if those on the remain side looked more into the arguments instead of name calling it would have been a different result.

It shocks me that labour supporters on Twitter are saying these horrible names against leave voters, but they need us to get their seats in the north, I don't think it is a good idea to insult your own base.

Even on mumsnet rhetoric has been appalling, I have had posters say they can't bring themselves to speak to leave voting parents.

Why can't you just accept maybe that leave possibly has a better campaign/arguments.

This idea that many leave voters regret the vote is wrong, everyone I know who voted leave is in a joyous mode today.

Can we just move on now and accept the result instead of insulting 52% of the population.

I've just read through all the posts on this thread.

I can't help noticing that the remain group say "we should remain because of a/b/c/d/e/f/g"

The leavers tend to say "we'll be OK, stop worrying"

The reasons the remains feel so angry is they are giving very important valid points across and are understandably worried about things. Only to get told by the leavers to chill out.....Hmm

That itself makes me want to boil with rage!

polyhymnia · 25/06/2016 00:32

Agree with SpringerS and belly button.

So, when employers cut jobs and wages as bimusiness moves out of UK the country, the Leave voters will stand up and say "I voted for this, I'll go first" yeah?

Permanentlyexhausted · 25/06/2016 00:58

Do you have a problem with the word 'several'?

Dictionary definition of the word several is more than two but not many. I gave 3 examples. I'd suggest my use of the word several is pretty accurate. More accurate than the Leave campaign's £350million claims.

HugoBear · 25/06/2016 02:58

Poor old OP - having a little pity party because she wanted everyone to like her.

Bengal I actually think the overriding argument that leavers have said is exactly what bellybutton stated. Also people have mainly been talking about a rose tinted ideal of going back to what 'Britain used to be like'. I think a large number of people were worried about immigration and red tape but completely ignored all the good stuff that came out of Europe such as workers rights etc.

An awful lot of the stuff that you've reeled off there also does have a lot to do with the UK government you know. We have never been completely run by the EU, the government has always had a majority rule over how our country is run so don't put all the blame onto Europe.

I feel the arguments used by the Leave campaign were full of inconsistencies, lies and exaggerations which did not give many people a factual basis to come to a well informed decision and that is one of the reasons I feel so uncomfortable about the Leave vote. Within hours of the result being announced, we had bloody Nigel Farage stating that the £350million (which was a totally untrue figure in the first place) is not going to the NHS, Daniel Hannan stating that there will be no change in the migration of labour and Boris Johnson saying that we will always be part of Europe blah blah which are all now backtracking on what they have been saying for the last few months, things that many people who voted Leave based their decisions on.

These politicians knew they were lying, and deliberately misleading a population that they probably knew were ill informed about the true nature of EU membership etc for their own political ends which I think is disgraceful.

There is a lot of abuse towards Remainers, that being angry is somehow being a bad loser rather than us expressing totally legitimate concern and horror about not only the potential ramifications of Brexit but also the totally insiduous and deceitful politicians that lead our country.

*If London was not so densely populated (more greenspace/ less paving, buildings) then there would have been less pluvial flooding on the 23rd.

Thus transport would have been less affected, there may have been a bigger turn out for remain in London, and you may have won. *

FYI Bengal but London actually voted to Remain in Europe.

trafalgargal · 25/06/2016 04:16

Loving all these people claiming to speak for "all of us "

I do believe many people who voted leave did it after looking at the issues and deciding Maastricht is not sustainable. Most support a common market but have sovreinty concerns .......as well as concerns about bailing out nations like Greece who essentially have the Euro but simply can't afford it.

That said we live in a democracy and the foot stamping and tantrums that went on were nothing short of stupid. Anyone who behaves like that is more than capable of ruining their own children's lives and won't need the electorate to help them.

trafalgargal · 25/06/2016 04:22

Be angry at the result but sitting on FB or MN shouting at those who exercised their democratic right to vote however they pleased is cowardly and pathetic.

PerpendicularVincent · 25/06/2016 04:26

It's not possible for me to 'move on' because the vote has such serious ramifications.

I haven't insulted anyone, but I can't understand why anyone would vote leave.

My main concerns are increased unemployment, an interest rates rise and disadvantageous trade agreements leading to an increase in the cost of living.

Compared to that, being in an 'EU army' doesn't seem so bad

IHaveHadHOWManyUsernames · 25/06/2016 04:30

I disagree trafalgargal we still live in a country with free speech and this being the biggest political and economic issue that has occurred in several decades we can discuss and express our feelings as much as we bloody like. What are we supposed to be doing right now, discussing the weather or the last episode of Eastenders? Calling people 'cowardly and pathetic' is exactly the kind of abuse that Leavers are accusing Remainers of doing, so a bit of a double standard there. This is a major thing that has just happened and if people want to talk about it or let of steam they have every right to do it. Personally I find this attitude of 'oh get over it' etc that I've seen a lot on this thread just further evidence of the ignorance of Leavers as to the magnitude of the situation. It's like they think because the vote is over, we should all just move on quietly and think/talk about it anymore. It shows how they just don't really get it.

Shariamom · 25/06/2016 04:40

Perpendicular - I voted leave, primarily because we needed to get control of our country back, to get control of our borders back.
Facts are facts, and the fact of the matter is this country is full up. We can't keep on taking immigrants like we have been. The time has come to close the door.
I can remember a time before the EU. It was a better time. Life in Britain was better and safer then. I voted leave to return Britain to that time.
It's time to ensure Britain is for the British. As a white person, I don't like feeling like an ethnic minority and have my rights trampled on in my own country thank you very much.

ProfessorPreciseaBug · 25/06/2016 05:38

Yesterday I was helping take down some big signs that had been put up by people in their gardens. Two separate people were abusive and unpleasant to us as they passed by.

I asked one why he was being so agressive and he said, because of what your lot have done. ... then stomped off.

It seems to me that your lot type of thinking is devisive and nasty. Perhaps it sums up the true attitude of some people. It is particularly noticable how the tone of this thread is quite unpleasant.

FreshHorizons · 25/06/2016 05:59

If you think that it means that we are closing the door you are in for a disappointment Shariamom. That has already been amended, in the same way as giving £350m a week to the NHS has been amended.

BoomKapow · 25/06/2016 06:21

I keep hearing 'I voted leave to get back control of our borders and stop the immigrants'. As far as I'm aware immigration from outside the EU makes up approx 50% of our immigration and we already have control of that. If the country is so over run with immigrants why have we not controlled more effectively the portion we can control? I can assure people that the reason you can't get an appointment at a lot of doctors is not because of those pesky immigrants, it's cause the Toeies are cutting funding to the NHS and privatising it by stealth.

CrimsonKing · 25/06/2016 06:38

I am probably going to out myself but I don't care anymore. I am so angry that we voted leave. Those that voted leave are a bunch of selfish, ignorant twats and these are my personal reasons for thinking so:

Thomas Rehder says European shipping companies will reconsider their UK presence. I hope he is wrong.

He is also predicting less use of the U.K. Flag and less use of the the Gibraltar register. This is an inevitable outcome of the leave vote.

Japanese shipbuilder MOL says they are rethinking having UK base - now looking at other European options. 😒

Separately thanks to brexiters the already struggling offshore sector has been hit with 6% being wiped off the oil service stocks.

Who needs inclusive politics when you can go it alone!?!

TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE SAYING GUVE US EVIDENCE OF BAD THINGS HAPPENING JUST READ THE FRONT PAGE OF TRADEWINDS. I am so very sorry for all those British people in the shipping industry which is going through the toughest time in 10 years that you are now going to get fucked because of people like the OP who don't understand how sovereignty works and mark all immigrants as terrorists.

Separately to all those lovely Scottish people please don't abandon us.

cansu · 25/06/2016 06:51

When reading pathetic shit like the OP saying 'are we going to get our passports back' and ' I don't care about Scotland' you just know that yes the OP is completely bloody stupid and my blood boils that idiocy has caused such chaos.
