I'm feeling pretty shocked and scared right now.

Why did you vote for brexit?

Flay me alive mumsnet but this out vote is because we, the electorate have been kept vey mis-informed. I don't think half the country is 'racist'. I do think there are a lot of people who have been groomed to view the other as the enemy and this election has played into that.

The only winners of today are the establishment.

nuttymango · 24/06/2016 06:06

People voted leave because they believed dodgy propaganda.

BriteRainbowBright · 24/06/2016 06:07

Or because they treasure democracy?

Inyournightdress · 24/06/2016 06:08

You mean the economy that's just taken a nose dive that has set us back 30 years????

Balletblue · 24/06/2016 06:09

A lady at work said she was voting out 'because Britain is full'.

bumbleymummy · 24/06/2016 06:09

I think the leavers are in for a big shock. I don't think things are going to be quite as they expected and I imagine many are going to regret their decision when they start feeling the pinch.

WeDoNotSow · 24/06/2016 06:12

I think the remain voters are racist. The EU disproportionately and adversely affects non EU immigrants, sorry that you'll have to have some brown faces around you now rather than the only white immigrants you wanted us all to vote for

Justaskingnottelling · 24/06/2016 06:12

I'm just so ashamed to be part of this group of racist, ignorant bigots.

I can't remember being more disappointed in this country and its people.

Ever.

umiaisha · 24/06/2016 06:12

Quite a few of my non-White immigrant family have voted leave.

Iamthegreatest1 · 24/06/2016 06:12

Statistics are showing that Brexiters are all uneducated?
Hmm
Fast I said, 'attitudes' like yours lost labour the vote. Which means Rather than having constructive debate about reasons why people wanted to vote for the oppositions with an open mind, they resulted to name calling, insults etc lots of evidence on MN. Had they actually listened carefully, they might have had a different strategy and started addressing the concerns of the people before they defected to the Tories. Same with the Remainers v brexiters, it's happening all over again.

pearlylum · 24/06/2016 06:13

It's a disaster.
the pound is at its lowest level now for 30 years.
Interest rates will soar.
All 32 councils in Scotland voted to remain, we will see a breakup of the Union.
England will be right wing permanently.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 24/06/2016 06:15

! I am from London which is as diverse as it comes

I truly think that Eastern European immigration has been the tipping point that made people vote leave . I have experienced more unease and anger due to to this than the brown faces to be honest

People resent the fact that east Europeans have come in such a large number and have jobs , school places and hospital places

It's not right - but that's what's been the main issue in
My opinion

branofthemist · 24/06/2016 06:16

Tbh the sneering from the remainers in social media and on here, make me a bit embarrassed.

So many people voting Brexit, don't speak up. Or have racist rants on social media. Juding all of them on a few, very vocal, brexiters is no narrow minded.

I can't think why that's ok.

NoMudNoLotus · 24/06/2016 06:16

I am educated to H.E level.

I am senior health professional . I voted leave.

Remainers have NO idea of the extent and the financial disaster that immigration / free movement has had on our NHS. Brexit gives our NHS a chance - under remain our NHS would be in a coffin.

branofthemist · 24/06/2016 06:16

I am shocked at the pomposity and arrogance of the poster who declared Brexiters must not be educated. It's this kind of attitude that lost Labour the last election.

Exactly this. I can't believe no one ever learns.

teafortoads · 24/06/2016 06:17

Here we go again, anyone who dares mention immigration/be honest about THEIR opinions and reasons why they chose to use THEIR vote to leave will be labelled racist. Perhaps if there had been a bit less shouting of 'racist' and a bit more explanation and measured discussion around the subject over the last few years, people wouldn't have been running scared and voting exit? It is the standard thing to throw 'racist' at anyone who objects to your views and is a pretty pathetic cop out in all honesty. Perhaps some people feel they individually, us as a country and society will benefit from not being part of the EU? Doesn't necessarily they are screeching 'close the borders' etc etc. We need to move on from the knee jerk call of racist. The country has had it's chance to have it's say and the results show what the people want. Personally I despised that the Conservatives won at the last election and have spent many a sleepless night fretting over the implications, but democracy (or the charade of this) is just that. Don't automatically assume I voted out by the way, I just get fed up of the 'raaaaaacist finger pointing trying to silence other peoples' perfectly valid opinions.

HermioneWeasley · 24/06/2016 06:17

I think the point about stifling open discussion is really valid, and I wish the left woukd learn from it.

The remain campaign obviously didn't address people's concerns - just shut them down with accusations of racism.

I know plenty of intelligent, non racist people (some of them even - gasp- brown skinned!) who voted leave over issues of accountability and long term economics. They generally kept their views to themselves because they didn't fancy the abuse.

strayduck · 24/06/2016 06:18

I think people voted out to get control back. The EU is also a failed excitement and should have stayed at governing trade agreements only.

Immigration is a big thing as well and with alot of people if it's mentioned they scream racist. There will always be and need to be immigration but in a controlled measure but people were fed up with being ignored and accused of racism.

The EU and remain should have addressed this and came up with solutions then I think the remain vote would have been higher.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 24/06/2016 06:18

No mud I
Hope
You are right - I have a very very personal reaction to this - and yeah me sneering at the leavers is not good !

I am so scared for the London economy though

We just don't know

Horrible feeling

NoMudNoLotus · 24/06/2016 06:18

Justas the ignorant bigots are those on this thread assuming that Brexits are all uneducated older people.

fastdaytears · 24/06/2016 06:19

Statistics are showing that Brexiters are all uneducated?

I did not say that all Brexiters are uneducated. I said that the trend was for less educated (also less affluent, lower socio-economic status and older) voters to vote out and I have already given you the statistics. It's not sneering, there are interesting questions, particularly about where some parts of the media pitched their arguments.

nonamenopackdrill · 24/06/2016 06:19

I hope our misty eyed racism will keep us warm at night now that the pound is in freefall.

aliceinwanderland · 24/06/2016 06:20

It's absolutely stunning. I don't think all Brexiters are racist. I do think a lot of them will get a shock when they realise that there will still be free movement of peoples if we want trade agreements with any part of the EU.

It's going to send the economy into free fall - so there won't be much worry about EU foreigners taking their jobs - as there won't be any...

mathanxiety · 24/06/2016 06:20

Watch what happens to health services when the home grown government sells it off to corporations headed by old boy types whose friends are Tories.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 24/06/2016 06:20

BUT I have not seen nearly enough intelligent voices in the leave campaign that's the issue

All the intelligent voices I respects (Obama - world leaders - business leaders ) have said stay - so what do we do about that little issue !!!!
