If Remain wins, for years to come, whenever something goes wrong, be it lack of housing, overcrowding, not enough school places, cuts in social benefits, lack of work, etc etc etc,
People will get told:

You had your chance, a once in a lifetime chance to change things and gain back control. So don't go complaining now that things have eventually gone tits up.

That's going to happen. Isn't it? Hmm

you read it here first

The myth of the cohesive Brtish English psyche, British values and renewed self-concept based on nationalist ideas

Microaggression right back at you. Are you saying that I am wrong to be proud of my country and want the best for it?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 23/06/2016 10:03

I don't think the Brexit campaign was all about immigrants there are other issues with the EU that are worthy of consideration and criticism. The EU is a flawed institution so people do have legitimate concerns about it. (I voted Remain BTW).
However, I think the xenophobes and "little englanders" have seen the Vote Leave campaign as a way of pursuing their agenda. Ironically, I think that this may be what scuppers Vote Leave. I think the UKIP poster make some Vote Leave waiverers recoil and head for remain because they didn't want to be associated with the possible motives behind that image. I honestly wondered what Farage was playing at as it seemed to be the most spectacular shot in the foot - mind you I am not his target audience.

bacimamma · 23/06/2016 10:03

I better get off MN now and get on with voting (in), shopping and tidying.

BertrandRussell · 23/06/2016 10:03

Please don't vote with your heart. Hearts are not known for their ability to think- although they are excellent at pumping. Vote with your head.

LittleLionMansMummy · 23/06/2016 10:03

I am proud of my country and want the best for it. This isn't about who can out-British whom.

In.

Sparklemummyx0x0x · 23/06/2016 10:04

I haven't been yet. Wondering if AIBU by going, closing my eyes and just picking the box where my pen lands the closest to?

I think that genuinely nobody really knows what will happen to the country until it's over, weeks, months or years down the line. There's statements and theories that this will happen, that will happen, but nobody ACTUALLY knows. Surely which ever way the result goes, it's up to those people to make the changes to make the country right again or correct it.

pinkladyapple · 23/06/2016 10:04

Control?! What control will we have?!

Our current government got in with only 32% of the vote and the leave campaign are saying we should have a government which represents the people and is answerable to the people.

We don't have that now and it isn't the fault of Brussels.

purits · 23/06/2016 10:06

How are we supposed to vote with our heads when no-one will provide facts. The only 'facts' are predictions based on if we make big assumptions about the sky falling in then our model predicts ... the sky will fall in. Who would have thought it?Hmm

Bumpsadaisie · 23/06/2016 10:07

Yeah, the if we all vote Leave then the hugely complex web of social and economic problems that this country faces will be solved in an instant given that they are ALL CAUSED BY EU MIGRANTS WITHOUT EXCEPTION.

(Er .... hang on ...? Ed.)

MissHooliesCardigan · 23/06/2016 10:08

Chaz I totally agree about that poster. I think it will spectatularly backfire.

LittleLionMansMummy · 23/06/2016 10:09

Yes Sparkle that would be spectacularly unreasonable. We do know more about what will happen if we vote remain. Britain is not falling apart at the seams as some will have us believe simply by being an EU member. We have and will continue to function very much more than adequately. We don't know at all the consequences of voting leave, but can hazard a guess (supported by very high profile professionals from across the economic, scientific and academic spectrum) that it's likely to be extremely uncomfortable at the very least in the short term (2-10 years).

MrsNutella · 23/06/2016 10:15

Purit if you try and fact check and claim in the leave campaign you will find that it is a bending of the truth at best and a complete lie at worst. The remain campaign is, on the other hand, providing some very reliable, well sourced, backed up data. It's just very boring.

Still. I already voted. In. For so many reasons.

purits · 23/06/2016 10:17

We don't have that now and it isn't the fault of Brussels.

We had a referendum on the Alternative Vote system and we turned it down

purits · 23/06/2016 10:22

a complete lie at worst

Is what I linked to - the EU Commission's own website - a lie?
Remain hasn't provided data: it's provided best-guesses based on biased input. And remember that the experts thought the Euro was a good idea.

Viviennemary · 23/06/2016 10:28

Whatever the outcome I hope we'll see the back of Cameron. He's such a weasel. So whatever happens it'll be not his fault. And then he'll make a tidy packet like Blair did. I wonder why we're losing our faith in politicians. Hmm

LittleLionMansMummy · 23/06/2016 10:31

I'll take Cameron over Boris. Although the thought does make me shudder.

Sparklemummyx0x0x · 23/06/2016 10:37

I won't actually do that but somehow feel that I've got a few hours to read through lots of political jargon and views, I've got a night shift at 9pm and with dentist, sleep, school pick up, its not helping. A lot of people know exactly how they are voting and cannot be swayed either way and that's great but I still don't have a clue.
I know that the billions we give to the EU could be spent in the NHS I work for and various other places/situations. What are we paying this money for? Or towards? Who are these people or countries we are paying?
I need simple explanations.

LittleLionMansMummy · 23/06/2016 10:42

The thing is, with our current government the money will never be spent on the NHS or any of public services. I do sympathise though.

I watched a YouTube video of a Liverpool Law School professor this morning, which I found very informative.

BonerSibary · 23/06/2016 10:45

There probably will be people saying that OP, but if a person is the sort of silly cunt who thought leaving the EU was going to solve all our problems, they'd also find a way to be a ballbag whatever our constitutional arrangements. I'll pay about as much attention to it as I do my verruca. There are sensible arguments to be made in favour of Brexit, but none of them have come from or are likely to come from people who think it will fix everything.

Sparklemummyx0x0x · 23/06/2016 10:45

With regards to trade, other countries manage to buy and sell without being in a billion pound group. But then you get local small companies that say they get great deals because we are in the EU. I don't fall for the whole 'celebrity' input, but then when you look at Branson, Alan Sugar, etc, rich successful people and they have their views, as they know the business market, surely their views hold true.

purits · 23/06/2016 10:50

when you look at Branson, Alan Sugar, etc, rich successful people and they have their views, as they know the business market, surely their views hold true.

What about Weatherspoons, JCB and Dyson? They are Brexit.
So is Frank Field MP.

AndNowItsSeven · 23/06/2016 10:51

If we leave there will be a general election and very likely a labour win so that's a positive.

purits · 23/06/2016 10:54

Tate & Lyle came out as Brexit the other day. The EU actively stops them sourcing (Rest of the World) cane sugar instead of (EU) beet sugar. Another example of the EU's small-mindedness (and they accuse us of being Little Englanders!)

Lucydogz · 23/06/2016 10:55

I don't think labour will come out well at all. The only winners will be ukip(and I'm not a ukip supporter)

purits · 23/06/2016 10:56

There won't be an general election. There will be a change of leader. Theresa May is waiting patiently and quietly in the wings.
