To think homophobia will get worse in the Western Europe and not enough is being done to combat this prejudice

I know homophobia is already pretty common but I think it will get worse the more immigrants from cultures that are intolerant of homosexuality and homosexuals come to Western Europe. I hope gay people will remain safe here in the UK and able to lives their lives without fearing being "out".

OP posts:

What is this actually based on?
50 dead gay people.

ChatterNatterer · 15/06/2016 14:34

In Western Europe the title says Hmm

user1465994110 · 15/06/2016 14:35

Muslims live is Western Europe too, but OK the huge amount of raped women.

scatterolight · 15/06/2016 14:53

As our demographics change of course homophobia will get worse. I see no sign of resistance to this. The Orlando shooting and the reactions I've seen to it has underscored how we are prepared to accept anything in the name of "tolerance".

I used to think there would be a watershed moment - an atrocity so obviously opposed to our values that it would rouse people to real anger and resistance. I don't think that anymore.

ChipStix · 15/06/2016 14:58

I think this is pretty ridiculous op - it's not like we were living in a tolerant society before all the bad ol' immigrants turned up Hmm

We have laws to protect people's rights.

user1465994110 · 15/06/2016 15:00

Yeah when ISIS killed 50 gay people while Muslim countries throw gay people from the tallest buildings would would think people would wake up and see LGBT right are not something that mix with Islam.

The tolerance can only go one way, with gay people or Muslim people.

I hope as a western society we chose to move forward and support our gay children instead of moving backwards into religious ideology.

Way to take something completely the wrong way and turn it into muslim bashing! Like all those 'photos' of 'muslim refugees living it up' put on facebook that were in fact famous singers/actors stills from their career or personal life Hmm

The ads were airbrushed 'perfect' bodies telling women that we need to look like that to be 'beach perfect' and to use a slimming aid to do so.

Body shaming ads are not realistic and give the wrong ideas to impressionalbe girls and women who think that there is something wrong with them if they dont look 'perfect'.

whatsthatcomingoverthehill · 15/06/2016 15:20

The tide is changing rapidly in Christian circles too. Even amongst evangelicals the change has been significantly towards support of the rights of gay people, including marriage. Society in general is much more tolerant and inclusive than it ever has been, and that trend will continue.

Even if immigrants hold a less tolerant position the relatively small increase of these people will be overwhelmed by the overall change in society. And as people come to this country, in general, they are probably more influenced by it rather than the other way round. Sadly there will always be extremists but I don't think they have a chance of 'winning' the ideological battle.

SoThisIsSummer · 15/06/2016 15:20

I think you make an "interesting" point op.

We are not even within EU on the same page when it comes to sexism, racism, disablism etc.
I have personally seen and been victim of some of the above by nationals from other EU countries.

We have our own problems with all of the above in the UK but we do forget we are light years ahead than so many other countries, we really are and we are making strides forward.

If your dealing in small numbers however its not so much of an issue is it, but when whole communities are transplanted here, with different standard, its a worry.

SoThisIsSummer · 15/06/2016 15:21

whats thats a very positive post and I hope your right.

SoThisIsSummer · 15/06/2016 15:23

Yes Willow and of course those two - specific churches probably in red beck bible belt of USA are a great representation of all mostly liberal western religion Confused

EveryoneElsie · 15/06/2016 15:28

Most people are not intolerant, extreme, fascists or pro violence. If they were, then our culture would be.
Violence is illegal. All we need to do is enforce the laws we have.

Radical Muslims can tell themselves that in 20 years they will have conquered the West, but its a fantasy.

eyebrowse · 15/06/2016 15:35

With more and more scientific study the idea of a god is getting less and less believable so those who stick to religion are on average more and more irrational and extreme.

However religion is extremely beneficial as followers tend to work hard and be successful (because they believe they can do things as they are helped by god). Thus they tend to be able to attain money and power.

user1465994110 · 15/06/2016 16:18

How many people have the Western Christian people kill my count is at Zero.

Willow2016 · 15/06/2016 16:34

SoThisIsSummer:

And one muslim, self radicalised, possibly secretly homosexual himself is a great representative of all muslims?

When we start to talk about being overrun by intolerant religions and minority groups, homophobia etc we are obliged to look at all groups and religions and thier attitudes in the west and not just one.

There are extremes of intolerance in all groups. What about the muslims queing up to give blood in Orlando after the shooting? As in all societies, all religions there are decent people as well as the fanatical.

Hell have you seen how much vile abuse has been given on forums by so called christians who dont believe in dinosaurs, who take something they see on facebook as the truth and spout bile about it until its pointed out that it wasnt what they thought at all but something perfectly normal? Have you seen the abuse hurled at christian festival times to people who dont have any faith, or the hilarious dire warnings at halloween about hell and damnation? I have read posts on parenting forums with mums telling people they will rot in hell if their kids go to a halloween party and that we are all evil and deserve to rot cos we allow it. Halloween is about 'devil worship'...er no its not but its ok to spout your claptrap cos your minister/priest said so and everyone else is wrong.

Buddists attacking muslims and christians alike in Burma and Sri Lanka? Non violence is perceived to be at the centre of Buddism yet their history is peppered with religious wars and persecutions against others same as any other religion.

You dont have to look far to see fanatics who are willing to abuse anyone who doesnt believe the same as they do in the name of 'peaceful' religions.

I dont care what nationality, colour or religion you are (or not) just keep your violence and your intolerance to yourself and if you dont like it here live somewhere else or open your eyes to the fact we are all the same flesh and blood underneath it all.

user1465994110 · 15/06/2016 16:43

It's not one Muslim though, The rapes, the killings, the Terrorist attacks so much in the last year alone.

Their religious ideology doesn't mix with Western society

Look I much prefer the likes of Westbro chruch calling my son names over Muslims murdering them.

One wants to hurt his feelings the other want's him dead.

Pootles2010 · 15/06/2016 16:44

You don't think any western supposedly Christian people have ever killed gay people in homophobic attacks? Really?

user1465994110 · 15/06/2016 16:46

You where talking about the Westbro chruch and no they haven't killed anyone.

Bambamrubblesmum · 15/06/2016 16:46

Is your name Donald?

Bigotry begets bigotry.

slug · 15/06/2016 16:46

Bah, I'm more and more coming to the conclusion that the muslim/homophobic narrative in the Orlando killings is a red herring.

What we have here is the age old story of a man who took out his sexual frustrations on those he perceived to have rejected him. The problem is, as we all know, sexual violence is always the fault of the woman. As there were no women in this scenario to blame for their rejection/short skirt/dangerous belief in their own humanity, the search started for some other scapegoat. Given his background and that of his victims, the Muslim/homophobe scenario were the easiest ones to latch onto.

But in my somewhat cynical opinion, it's just another case of violent man with access to the means to carry out his rage.

ChipStix · 15/06/2016 16:46

Look at gay rights in Russia.

How many people have the Western Christian people kill my count is at Zero. Hahhahahahhahahaha how about all the mass shooting in the us? The bombings and attacks on planned parenthood? Just normal day to day road rage or whatever kind of of rage?

user1465994110 · 15/06/2016 16:53

Slug

In the refugee rapes in Europe most people are not blaming the women only the ones defending the Muslims.

I am disgusted that some news papers would rather blame women rather them give bad press to the Muslim refugees.

Was their no Lesbians or transwomen killed in Orlando? Gender of the victims don't matter, it was a religious terrorist attack,
