Not a fan of silly spellings. Can't spell names weirdly where I live anyway, we have naming laws and names must be spelt according to normal spelling rules.

I loved Irish names but some of the pronounciations bear no resemblance to the spellings

Of course they do...in Irish. They are perfectly phonetic. Just because you can't understand a language doesn't make it any less legitimate.

Lian is Irish, not a misspelling of Leanne.

Alys and Nel are Welsh.

allowlsthinkalot · 26/06/2016 22:29

Jac is also Welsh. There is no k in the Welsh alphabet.

And Siôn is pronounced the same as Sean or Shawn. Si in Welsh is a "sh" sound.

allowlsthinkalot · 26/06/2016 22:36

Oliwer and Oliwia are polish.

I met a Siobhan pronounced Sigh-oh-ban once though!!
