I'm all for yooneek spellings. Provided you can actually tell what the name is.
So yes I do think you're being judged. There's nothing wrong with creativity

arethereanyleftatall · 14/06/2016 23:14

Yanbu.

I don't get the thinking behind 'let's choose this name, but spell it incorrectly.'

Just screams chav.

IsThisForTheBest · 14/06/2016 23:15

Rebekah
Sofee

DonkeyOaty · 14/06/2016 23:16

What is "chav" please?

PaulAnkaTheDog · 14/06/2016 23:16

Yanbu.

IsThisForTheBest · 14/06/2016 23:17

Ryley

Cutecat78 · 14/06/2016 23:17

I feel sorry for the kid who will spend the rest of their life correcting the spelling of their name.

I work with a large database of kids names - NOTHING surprises me.

Heratnumber7 · 14/06/2016 23:18

Abbygayle.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 14/06/2016 23:18

I know of a Jensohn.

DramaAlpaca · 14/06/2016 23:18

Rebekah is a perfectly acceptable alternative spelling. It's Hebrew.

Saying that a name is "chav" is quite insulting.

DesolateWaist · 14/06/2016 23:19

How do you pronounce YANBU Paul.

Rebekah - I thought that was a perfectly legitimate spelling of Rebecca.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 14/06/2016 23:20

How do you pronounce YANBU Paul.

😂😂😂

MissElizaBennettsBookmark · 14/06/2016 23:20

Rebekah is a very old traditional spelling

Just saying...

There are loads of really stupid ones about though.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 14/06/2016 23:20

But isn't Rebekah a recognised correct spelling forthebest some names do have more than one spelling!

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 14/06/2016 23:20

Cross posted re Rebekah

MrsJoeyMaynard · 14/06/2016 23:21

At least it's easy to tell what it's meant to be.

As a general rule I agree it's preferable to stick with established spellings though.

bewarethewalkers · 14/06/2016 23:21

I have a Rebekah and I can assure you it is a 'real' spelling not a chav name I picked Hmm

blimeyalldecentnamesaregone · 14/06/2016 23:24

All the yooneek spellings usually make me think the parents didn't know how to spell it properly. It is not a positive thing in my book.

Misknit · 14/06/2016 23:27

Jorja - do I win?

wowfudge · 14/06/2016 23:29

Ah, but that could be Spanish female version of Jorge.

LifeIsGoodish · 14/06/2016 23:30

Bryanne

(A boy!)

carelesswhisper27 · 14/06/2016 23:32

Roobie ConfusedHmm

12Maudsmammy · 14/06/2016 23:40

I have a yooneek spelling. Spent my whole working life having to use my yooneek common name in an academic field. A few years ago, after telling my mother for years she agreed that yooneek spellings were chavvy, for my thirtieth birthday she gave me the correct spelling. I'm using it well

This old zombie thread I've found is awesome! It makes the Des-Toni I used to teach sound classy:
