Owen Jones storms off sky news

I don't even get what his issue is, he's invited on to discuss the headlines and then runs off as he doesn't like how much attention the biggest story is getting.Confused

its chicken and egg situation isnt it, but we know elements in Islam are being actively taught to hate gay people.

Bolograph · 14/06/2016 10:50

ISIS have made every little murderous gay-hating, Western-hating, Police-hating, woman-hating, Jewish-hating cunt feel very important and powerful, and have given them some mad kind of legitimacy or focus for their grievances.

As Sartre said, the attraction of anti-Semitism is that even a nobody can be a member of the elite.

AlPacinosHooHaa · 14/06/2016 10:51

What about Saudi? Do they represent saudi or isis because the strain of religion they follow are scarily close. Ego if you have not watched it I would see out the recent Saudi expose with under cover reporters it was on ITV.

When an Islamist in Syria kills in the name of allah he is called a terrorist. When an American kills in the name of the Islamic ideology he is an Islamic terrorist.

Yes American gun culture facilitated his crime, yes he might have been gay, homophobic or both. But it does seem to have been his Islamic religious beliefs that caused him to kill.

And it is this problem with Islam and American gun culture we need to address if we are to reduce terrorism.

I agree Al.

thecatfromjapan · 14/06/2016 11:09

I second that. Ego.

MangoMoon · 14/06/2016 11:10

The LGBT community were just the latest targets though Ego - it could have just as easily been anyone, anywhere - it just happened that this particular nutter was homophobic and gay people personally offended him more than any other group.

ISIS, wahabbists etc hate everything that doesn't fall within their very narrow, medieval interpretation of Islam.
They want everyone who doesn't fit their ideals dead - LBGT are just one part of it.

Yes LGBT discrimination should be stopped everywhere we can stop it. But even if we succeed in doing that it wont stopped Islamic terrorists killing Gays, Jews, fun seekers, cartoonists and pretty much everyone.

MangoMoon · 14/06/2016 11:14

The same changes I wanted to see after Lee Rigby, Tunisia, Paris etc - I want ISIS wiped out.

As far as religion goes, I'm an atheist and think all religion is bollocks but unfortunately there are far too many subscribers to wipe religion out too.

As long as there is religion, based on centuries old writings, and interpreted by the unhinged in ever more extreme ways, there will be suffering in its name.

(And I include all religion in that, not just Islam).

peachpudding · 14/06/2016 11:16

I would like western cultures to accept that there is a problem within the Islamic religion that leads fundamentalists to killing. Until that is accepted we can never start fixing it.

AlPacinosHooHaa · 14/06/2016 11:31

I would like to see a ban on hate preachers being allowed to go from one city to another spouting hate and a closer look at our ties with saudi and the new salfi strains of islam springing up.

I would like more gay rights in amercia. tolerance and such taught properly in schools.

AlPacinosHooHaa · 14/06/2016 11:34

that we do tackle the legitimised LGBT discrimination that exists - mainly in Muslim countries - especially Saudi Arabia

You cant tackle that until you tackle that part of the religion which is also legal and bonded with teh state.

mamamea · 14/06/2016 11:34

"ISIS, wahabbists etc hate everything that doesn't fall within their very narrow, medieval interpretation of Islam."

Islam IS medieval though.

The Bible has stuff about mixing cloths, eating pork and such like, but Christians don't follow that.

Islam does. It is full of blood sacrifices, and even now, the month of Ramadan, a woman's fast is invalid if she is menstruating.

Islam is a medieval religion in a modern world.

I would like America to man up and address it's gun laws. It won't though.

I would like all Americans to think about gay people's right to 'life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness'. Many will.

I would like the families of those murdered to find any way they can to keep on living. I don't know how that is done.

I would like all organised religions and their adherents to consider deeply what their teachings mean for human rights around the world. Those peaceful and tolerant followers should highlight, denounce and shame the intolerant and the bigoted sections of their church.

And most of us should keep doing whatever we're doing, without any concession to hate or to terror.

Helmetbymidnight · 14/06/2016 11:46

Well, this is a worldwide problem - and unfortunately there is an element of contagion to it: alienated, disaffected young (generally in their 20s) men (it is what, 99% male?) now frighteningly believe going on a murder spree is an answer.

You're unhappy? Why not blow up a bus.

Feeling down? Shoot up a church.

Don't think you'll ever be a somebody? Kill people in a club.

We need to take care of our young men's mental health - we need to most especially help the Muslim community with their young men because right now, they are the most vulnerable to the call of ISIS.

At the same time, we need to come down hard on all people who are intolerant. We need stricter punishments for those disseminating hate speech in schools, mosques and jails. Perhaps we need internet providers to get more involved? We should be able to extradite radical-preachers etc?

We need to be inclusive and to model that. We need to love more not less...

At the same time, we need to stop our terrible dependency on oil and spend more money on developing alternative energy sources!

As for the USA, they need to ban automatic weapons, at a very minimum, but I imagine hell will freeze over first.

Trump is a fuck-wit of the highest order.

101handbags · 14/06/2016 11:55

I agree with him but I wish he hadn't stormed off, I wish he'd stayed to argue his case (well, as much as he could get a word in edgeways). I do have a problem with Mark Longhurst on the Sky papers review as he seems far to keen to offer his own opionins, whereas I think the role of the presenter on this programme is to ask the questions and instigate a discussion between the two guests - Anna Botting is a good example of chairing this segment well.

StrangeLookingParasite · 14/06/2016 11:56

No - there are people who ONLY want to discuss Islam. They don't want to discuss anything else.

No, I don't? But don't let that stop you from having a o at me, as I see it hasn't.

I suspect you don't give a fuck about LGBT violence but are more concerned with having a go at Muslims. That goes for a lot of other people on here as well.

And you can sod off with this little piece of lying shit as well, thanks.
