Husband, ex military man appropriately named dick, did a lot of telly in the early noughties about engineering projects, and living green etc. Involving all his family.

Seems he's had a mid life crisis and is now with a young cockney vintage person called Angel, has started a second family and is now living with her and youngsters in France in a ruin d chateau allegedly bought for. 280 k with 12 acres and a renovation budget of 20k.

All lovey Dovey. Constantly nose bumping etc. Decorating the honeymoon suite. And Lo! Her parents have arrived to live with them ( and no doubt contribute to the budget.)

All feels very yuck.

I love the programme too! Lovely family viewing that warms the cockles. I wish Dick & Angel & their family every happiness in their lives and thank them for sharing their journey.

I love his new project and have watched all of the previous series, it’s up to him who he marries but I wish Angéla would keep her proper name. They seem to work well together and make a good job of what they do. My only niggle is that his older children and grandchildren never get mentioned , it’s a shame as Dick and James program the hungry sailors was quite good.

How awful. People are allowed to move on with their lives you know. Perhaps the first Mrs S bloody hated france. Who knows.

Ugh sorry old thread! Why is this appearing on active?!

Zombie thread!!! Don't feel the need sympathy for Brigit - she doesn't need your pity. She's happily remarried.

Maybe his older children don’t want to be mentioned? They are grown adults and allowed to decide for themselves. Maybe Dick and Angel are respecting their wishes.

And in other news has anyone else seen the chateaux strawbridge range in Sainsbury's. Good marketing revenue!

I remember the Hungry Sailors programme. That was quite good (and james is quite good looking!).

This is a mean thread, my understanding is that he was very well respected be everyone in the military and his first marriage did not end acrimoniously either and his first wife is very happily coupled up again.
They appear to be a lovely couple and there rubbing of noses just shows how happy they are together.
There sure are some green eyed monsters out there!

Awww C’mon - Live & Let Live 😍 they’re just a happy couple ♥️♥️ You sound dreadfully bitter in your scathing attack of their relationship. His previous marriage obviously broke down. It happens. It’s a well publicised statistic for even the best marriages. Personally, I wish them well
& think it’s a wonderful prog - I love what they’ve done to their Chateau - it’s quite extraordinary what they’ve achieved - it’s utterly breathtaking now - in fact I hope to visit it one day. They’re living the dream as far as I can see....

I love the program and think it’s up to him what he does with his life, he is a hard worker and deserves everything he gets, his ex wife is happy and doing well for herself .enough with the negativity

you can get one of their cushions or duvet cover from argos or sainsburys right now.some very lovely designs.
people really dont like to see happy contented people do they.
for now they are really happy.are we wishing they will split?be unhappy?lose money?
they found a niche and they have ran with it.good on em.
did it make them money.yep.dont we all wish we could.
so let them be.there is enough people in the shit without wishing it on people who currently arent.
and she was doing very well before all this too.her vintage patisserie is big business.

God there are so many bitter people on here.

Marriages end sometimes, just because he's remarried doesn't make him a monster! Christ.

I watch their show and actually think they seem happy and very much in love!

I've just looked on Twitter and Dick's son James's latest tweet (from yesterday) is about what a pleasure it was to work with his dad and Angela on their show recently. So no bad feelings there.

Escape to the Chateau reduced me to tears the other day when Angela left the room and Dick winked at the camera, smiled and simply said 'I love her to bits'

It's easy watching, no nastiness, just nice people living their lives and doing the sort of thing many of us wish we could achieve.

All power to them.

I am alarmed at how fat they all are - Dick looks like a heart attack waiting to happen and is out of breath and wheezing, Angela appears to be twice the siz when it started and the young boy looks like hes heading towards obesity - even Dorothy is beginning to look porky ...very sad and a bad role model as a family

Please be kind. These are real people dealing with real life. I truly enjoy their show and their enthusiasm for life, learning and living. I wish all Strawbridges past and present the very best. You are all incredible, beautiful people!

I think they come across as a lovely couple, who cares about the age difference. Marriages fail we don’t know the reason.
