Last night DH said 'Why do you always go for a wee before you get into bed, even if you only went half an hour ago?'

Doesn't everyone? He thinks not- he doesn't. I have done this since being a child. On the rare occasion I haven't done it, I don't sleep well. My bladder feels irritable in bed if it isn't empty. I have to get up in the middle of the night then.

Today, SIL comes round and he asks her if she always goes to the loo before she goes to bed and she said no.

Am I just odd?

Yep always. I tried to stop once thinking it will help me to stop pressing snooze in the morning because I'll have to get up to pee. But couldn't sleep felt like I'd forgotten something

HollySeddonAuthor · 13/06/2016 21:34

I do this, doesn't everyone? And (four kids) I'll go a few more times before morning as well. FFS.

Ledkr · 13/06/2016 21:46

Most definitely. It's the law 😂

slgsue1979 · 13/06/2016 21:46

I thought it was normal! I have a few times thought I can't be bothered it's too cold and too much effort to take off my onesie so haven't and they are the worst sleeps ever!
Last thing at night and first thing in the morning nothing more natural ;-)

a1poshpaws · 13/06/2016 21:48

Totally normal - there's no way I can settle to sleep if I haven't gone for a pee directly before bed.

Hygellig · 13/06/2016 21:48

Oh yes I always have to go to the loo immediately before bed. And then usually I need a wee ten minutes after lying down as well, and usually one during the night. (I used to be able to go all night without one when I was younger). This is one reason why I'm not a big fan of camping.

BluePitchFork · 13/06/2016 21:49

I go twice before bed. once before teeth brushing once after. if I don't I can't fall asleep easily, or worse still, have to get up in the night.

rugbychick · 13/06/2016 21:51

I always do

MTWTFSS · 13/06/2016 22:02

Yes. I do go every night before bed.

Flisspaps · 13/06/2016 22:05

I currently am Grin

PeppermintPasty · 13/06/2016 22:27

I'm the Olympic champion of nightly pissing.

I go once to get the first load of it out. Then clean my teeth. Then go again to get the bit that didn't come out before. Then when I get in bed I get up again and push a bit more out.
If I'm lucky I can get to 5-6am before needing another. Been like it for years.

You are quite normal. He is weird. LTB.

Ledkr · 13/06/2016 22:29

hygelling I'm always in awe of people who walk past the toilet block on the way back to the tent and used to get cross with dh and the kids for taking too long to settle down in case I needed a wee again.
Then we bought a lovely little camper van with a flushing loo!
Bliss

PeppermintPasty · 13/06/2016 22:31

Mumsnet taught me about TravelJohn you know. Amazing invention to catch your wee when camping. Almost (but not quite) made me fond of camping again.

PeppermintPasty · 13/06/2016 22:34

Behold the wondrous invention.

to go to the loo every night before I get into bed.
Muchtosayaboutnothing · 13/06/2016 23:02

Surely this is instilled from the potty training days to prevent bed wetting (where possible)

I do it every night and as soon as I wake and before any car journey even if I don't need to. My Wee granny taught me that

GarlicSteak · 13/06/2016 23:48

Ooh, that's clever, Patsy!

clicknclack · 14/06/2016 06:27

No, it helps me wake up in the morning (not a morning person) and also usually by the time I think of it I'm already in bed and feeling lazy.

Unless... I have a cold and am likely to have major gasping-for-breath coughing fits as soon as I lie down. All strong bladder bets are off for that.

or if I'm on my period, a full bladder hurts then so I go as often as possible.

Hygellig · 14/06/2016 10:09

Maybe I'll have to get a TravelJohn if I brave camping again...who knew there was such a thing? Although it would still mean getting out of my nice cosy sleeping bag.

Flufflewuffle · 14/06/2016 11:26

I go before bed every night. Several times.
I'll go before getting into bed. Then again after reading and before turning off my light. And if I have to get up for anything after that, kids, dog, cat, forgot to lock the door, etc, I'll go again.
There's always something there to be evacuated so I tell myself I really did need to go each time. I drink a lot of water.

happymumof4crazykids · 14/06/2016 11:34

I do to as do the kids and my DP it's normal isn't it?

Mycraneisfixed · 14/06/2016 22:00

I thought everybody did.

Worcswoman · 15/06/2016 03:54

I always pay a visit before bed and just decided I won't make it to the loo (downstairs) but had a little trick or treat bucket in the bedroom. Now I've got to wash the mattress. Me and my bright ideas. I need a po. My grandparents had one each under the bed. What a sensible idea.

lovemyway · 15/06/2016 17:58

Clean teeth, have a wee, brush hair, take make- up off, sleep.

Hulababy · 15/06/2016 18:03

I always do, and again a little later when I turn off the light, after reading, to go to sleep - even if it is just half an hour later. It is definitely a mind thing - feels wrong not to try before I sleep!

janjan29 · 15/06/2016 21:14

Well I always go before bed, like I thought everyone else did, but if I then lay in bed and talk for even 5 minutes before I try to go to sleep I have to get up and go again!
