to go to the loo every night before I get into bed.

Last night DH said 'Why do you always go for a wee before you get into bed, even if you only went half an hour ago?'

Doesn't everyone? He thinks not- he doesn't. I have done this since being a child. On the rare occasion I haven't done it, I don't sleep well. My bladder feels irritable in bed if it isn't empty. I have to get up in the middle of the night then.

Today, SIL comes round and he asks her if she always goes to the loo before she goes to bed and she said no.

Am I just odd?

How absolutely bizarre. I hate getting out of bed in the night to pee, I squeeze as much out as possible just before stepping into bed. I assumed everyone did this (seems they do).

LuluJakey1 · 12/06/2016 18:56

Just out of interest. Not much annoys DH. however, I am easily irritated

OP posts:
booksandcoffee · 12/06/2016 18:56

I do it, even if I went 30 minutes earlier.

AYD2MITalkTalk · 12/06/2016 18:56

DP always claims he can't, just can't wee on command; he wibbles on about involuntary sphincters. So bizarre.

Stanky · 12/06/2016 18:57

I sometimes go 4 or 5 times before I fall asleep, and a couple of times during the night, and again in the morning. This is since having the dc. I have been tested for diabetes, and it all came back normal. I know that I am not normal, and I don't sleep very well at all.

iMatter · 12/06/2016 18:57

I go just before bed and then again before I go to sleep.

Bonkers I know but I've been doing it since I was about 7.

marcopront · 12/06/2016 18:59

Stanky I'm the same, I'm so glad we have an ensuite.

gamerchick · 12/06/2016 19:00

Yep, once before and twice after I've got in. Really annoying and my pelvic floor is fine. My bladder doesn't like lying down.

SecretNutellaFix · 12/06/2016 19:00

No- I do as well. It's a habit ingrained since I was toilet trained.

First thing in the morning and last thing before sleep, plus all of the in between visits.

Cel982 · 12/06/2016 19:02

It's not weird, but I wouldn't be able to go if I'd just been half an hour earlier. But I have fantastic bladder control am chronically dehydrated. Find it impossible to pee on command as well. It once took me hours to produce a sample for a pre-employment drug screen; I looked well dodgy.

flibbidygibbet · 12/06/2016 19:03

Of course. I assumed everyone did.
As for the comment about needing a hobby surely these mundane dull conversations are the life blood of many a healthy marriage.

LuluJakey1 · 12/06/2016 19:05

gamer yes that is it! My bladder doesn't like lying down. It has to be empty to like lying down.

When I was pregnant with DS I had to get up at night but I don't normally have to- always have to if I haven't had an empty bladder getting into bed.

DH and SIL probably have a bladder the size of horses or something. Grin

OP posts:
bigkidsdidit · 12/06/2016 19:06

I don't. Even if I've had three gins Grin sometimes I go to sleep slightly needing a wee of I'm really tired. I have a bladder of iron

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 12/06/2016 19:06

I do this too. Even if I've been a few minutes previously, I still go immediately before getting into bed. Doesn't feel right otherwise.

KissMyArse · 12/06/2016 19:07

YANBU

Ignore the bladder retainers and do what you've always done.

LuluJakey1 · 12/06/2016 19:08

flibbidy yes, these mundane, dull conversations are the lifeblood of our marriage- I recall a time when DS was tiny when all we talked about one day seemed to be the variations of his poo.

OP posts:
ThePinkOcelot · 12/06/2016 19:08

I do too. I would have to get up in the middle of the night if I didn't.

KellyElly · 12/06/2016 19:10

Always, even if I've been ten mins before. I also go in the night too, which has become an annoying habit. I don't really need to, but if my bladder feels the slightest bit full I don't sleep properly.

HemanOrSheRa · 12/06/2016 19:10

You are right OP. What an odd thing for him to ponder over! Mind you, he needs to wait until you hit peri menopause. You'll be piddling for England on the half hour for hours. That will baffle him.

I thought the brain released a chemical to make us wake up if we need a wee? That is why if you wake in the night needing to go to the bathroom and can't be arsed, you can't settle back to sleep. I may have made that up Confused.

JustBoppinAlong · 12/06/2016 19:12

I always go for a wee before getting into bed. Otherwise you can guarantee just as I'm dropping off I will suddenly need to go.

MillieMoodle · 12/06/2016 19:14

I always go as part of my bedtime routine. If I've been reading in bed then I have to go again before I turn the light off. Always go as soon as I get up too. And at the moment I'm having to get up and go a couple of times a night, as am 28 wks pregnant. If I wake up in the night I always have to go and try too. Also have to go before we leave the house and sometimes when we're out as well. My bladder is not what it once was!

I make DS try to go before bed and before we leave the house to go out anywhere. DH has got into the habit as well now.

I say your DH and his sis are being unseasonable!

Mari50 · 12/06/2016 19:15

I always pee right before bed or guaranteed when I'm about to drop off I start to need a pee. Even thinking 'do I need a pee' starts a chain reaction which results in definitely needing a pee.

SoThatHappened · 12/06/2016 19:16

Nope never do. If i need to go before bed I'll go but other than that, no.

I can sleep all night if I have just had a drink.

Are most people really that weak bladdered?

Pagwatch · 12/06/2016 19:17

"Are most people that weak bladdered"

Well I wasn't until after I carried 3 babies, two of which were 9 1/2 lbs

TooMuchMNTime · 12/06/2016 19:19

OP "yes, these mundane, dull conversations are the lifeblood of our marriage"

and you're okay with that?

I go before bed too. I think it's normal. I can't help noticing I have a couple of colleagues who seem to go once a day in the working day! I don't know how people manage this.
