Last night DH said 'Why do you always go for a wee before you get into bed, even if you only went half an hour ago?'

Doesn't everyone? He thinks not- he doesn't. I have done this since being a child. On the rare occasion I haven't done it, I don't sleep well. My bladder feels irritable in bed if it isn't empty. I have to get up in the middle of the night then.

Today, SIL comes round and he asks her if she always goes to the loo before she goes to bed and she said no.

Am I just odd?

I have a wee before bed then often wake an hour later bursting to go, and most nights 2 or three more times.

I'm knackered.

Maybe it's my prostate?
Hmm

GypsyFl0ss · 12/06/2016 22:31

I do two wees too and it's definitely a habit for the second one. In hospital recently with a catheter in , the nurse turned out my room light and all I could think of was " but I haven't had a wee" and I was convinced I could feel that I needed one though the catheter was doing its job just fine.

Sallystyle · 12/06/2016 22:35

does anyone else have those dreams when you find yourself sitting on a toilet trying to wee but can't, and then you wake up and discover that the cause of the dream is actually your body telling you to get out of bed because your bladder is full?

I don't have those dreams but if I have a really full bladder you can guarantee I will have a sex dream and in my dream I think I need an orgasm Blush then I wake up bursting for a pee.

Elledouble · 12/06/2016 22:46

Always wee before bed! I drink a lot of water (been checked for diabetes, I think I'm just a thirsty person) so I can usually go whenever.

I have the "really need a wee but there are no toilets/all the toilets are dirty or have no doors on" dream quite regularly.

I need a wee now. Damn you.

Whisky2014 · 12/06/2016 22:51

I'm not weak bladdered. I do this. In fact I'm I'm bed and I'm just about to go for my wee before sleep time. I hate waking up at 4am and having some crazy dreams because I am bursting for a piss..

Lilacpink40 · 12/06/2016 22:53

I do and also usually wake and go again in night. Can hold for longer in day!

FantasticRik · 12/06/2016 22:58

Wish I hadn't clicked on this thread. I'm all tucked up, and now I need a wee.

80sMum · 12/06/2016 23:01

I have always done it as long as I can remember. For me, I think it began out of fear of wetting the bed as a very young child. I used to be told off, shouted at etc and was scared of being smacked Sad

I simply cannot relax and go to sleep unless I know that my bladder is completely empty.

Pinkheart5915 · 12/06/2016 23:12

Not not odd
I always go a week before bed

gooddays · 12/06/2016 23:13

Yep I do too can be several times before bed although since I've had my DS & he falls asleep on me I've had to train myself not to go as often as it wakes him up (my dilemma most nights is do I really need a wee versus waking him up!)

I love these mundane conversations abit of common bonding with DP

GarlicSteak · 12/06/2016 23:16

Once - yes to everything you wrote! I feel strangely relieved (not in that way; I'm about to go for a pee) that someone's put it all into words Grin

I'm so glad you've decided to behave more like a normal person, Mr Lulu, and adopt the pre-emptive pee strategy. Your bladder will thank you one day.
Although that would be very odd Confused A talking bladder.

FV45 · 12/06/2016 23:29

I did get into the habit of going before I got into bed and then going again before turning the light off, but realised that the latter one was often not needed so trained myself not to. Someone told me it would be better for me when I was older if I only really went to the loo when I needed to. Not sure whether that's right, but aside from that it does save me getting up out of my lovely warm bed!

WalkingBlind · 12/06/2016 23:31

Nope i never do unless it accidentally coincides with the time i naturally need on. I can fall asleep needing on and i've had two kids and piss myself when i laugh

DieSchottin93 · 12/06/2016 23:37

I always do and still usually get up at least once during the night I think it's odd if you don't Confused I just can't fall asleep properly if I think I need a wee

dowhatnow · 12/06/2016 23:41

I have the bladder of a horse during the day and a bladder of a mouse at night!

I normally go before bed then have to go again when I switch out the light. Occasionally I've been really sleepy and settle down without this last minute wee. I'm guaranteed to lay there having this conversation with myself
"I need a wee"
"no you don't, you've only been 10 minutes ago"
"ok, I really don't need one"
"I so do"
"No wait, you'll be asleep in a minute"
"Oh bugger it, I'll have to get up. I'll never relax until I've been"

dowhatnow · 12/06/2016 23:46

And wasn't everyone told by their mothers to "have a try" before going out if the door?
I certainly continued that tradition with my own kids along with the inevitable "I told you to go before we left" - when they asked to go 10 minutes after leaving home.

nuttymango · 13/06/2016 01:11

I will never be able to listen to men without hats in the same way again, do they have no hats because hey have used them to pee in?

Juanbablo · 13/06/2016 04:03

I always go to the toilet before bed. I think it's psychological. I can't settle if I haven't been. Dh is like a camel and stores his pee for hours on end.

MsHoolie · 13/06/2016 13:58

I always do .. (no choice after giving birth to a 9 pounder!!)
(Doctor told me to anyway to prevent disrupting sleep)

(Not exactly an AIBU subject?)

GreaseIsNotTheWord · 13/06/2016 14:01

I always do, whether I want to or not. I also always go before I go out, especially if it's any distance more than 10 minutes. No bladder problems, it's just habit, just 'what you do'.

I make the dc (8 and 6) go before bed or a journey because it's just good sense...I can't remember if I've always done it or just picked it up again from the routine since having dc.

Mandp76 · 13/06/2016 14:52

Doesn't matter how many times I got to the toilet in the evening, as soon as I lie down, my bladder screams at me. I always go just before I go to sleep as I read in bed for a bit. Same with dc. I still take my 8yr old through the night when I get up to go as well. We've got weak bladders!

Overshoulderbolderholder · 13/06/2016 14:59

Yep we all do too

justpeachy74 · 13/06/2016 15:07

I thought most people did this. My DH doesn't even after a night drinking pints and I thought he was odd!

nectarini1983 · 13/06/2016 15:09

I do this too! Ditto pp about being drilled into me as a kid. I make my children do this too!

elevenfouromfg · 13/06/2016 15:16

I thought everyone did. If I take too long to get off to sleep I will go again just incase!
