Last night DH said 'Why do you always go for a wee before you get into bed, even if you only went half an hour ago?'

Doesn't everyone? He thinks not- he doesn't. I have done this since being a child. On the rare occasion I haven't done it, I don't sleep well. My bladder feels irritable in bed if it isn't empty. I have to get up in the middle of the night then.

Today, SIL comes round and he asks her if she always goes to the loo before she goes to bed and she said no.

Am I just odd?

DH calls me 'juno two-times' as I wash face/ clean teeth/ pee then get in to bed and then get up and go to the loo again. So I always go 'two-times' before finally going to sleep.

HemanOrSheRa · 12/06/2016 21:08

I believe it is stratters. Something to do with hormonal effects on the bladder. What I do know is one of two things happens every night. If I don't go to sleep soon after I go to bed, I'm up and down like a fiddlers fecking elbow, pissing like a horse. Or, if I go to sleep reasonably easily (rarely), I'm up from about 4am doing the same Confused. I think it might be connected to night sweats. It also seems to bear no colleration to the amount of fluid I've taken in either.

celeste83 · 12/06/2016 21:08

Yep i always pee before bedtime and then first thing in the morning.

OnceThereWasThisGirlWho · 12/06/2016 21:10

Meluzyna Subsidiary question: does anyone else have those dreams when you find yourself sitting on a toilet trying to wee but can't, and then you wake up and discover that the cause of the dream is actually your body telling you to get out of bed because your bladder is full?

Yes! And I had them as a child, but would actually wee in the dream and wake up having just pissed in the bed! Shock

I'm another unlucky sod who's not had children but still needs to pee in the night, as well as before bed. If I'm ever pregnant I'll just have to sleep on the loo. I don't wake up feeling the need for a wee exactly, more tossing and turning for ages due to discomfort in lower back from pressure of full bladder, until I wake up enough to realise I need to pee. And then waking up without quite enough sleep because its the same need to pee/painful back waking me up.

Frankly I find the whole female plumbing system to be most unsatisfactory. It's as if everything is connected together down there. Sensation of a full bladder merges with a period pain type feeling. Emptying full bladder leading to weird sensation as if everything is retracting back into place. Actual period time of month no idea what sensation is needing to pee, needing to poo or womb contracting. Argh. (Do have endometriosis but only mildly so no adhesions on bladder etc)

*correlation.

CurlyMango · 12/06/2016 21:10

Totally normal.

user1465760340 · 12/06/2016 21:11

Yes

Worcswoman · 12/06/2016 21:11

No, they are odd.

SecretNutellaFix · 12/06/2016 21:12

Meluzyna- yes!

I thought that I was weird.

Once I had a nightmare where I was being beaten and kicked in the kidneys and barely woke up in time- doctor confirmed quite a strong infection.

EttaJ · 12/06/2016 21:14

Why would he even ask, it's perfectly normal. I do that. So does DH.

user1465760340 · 12/06/2016 21:14

If you ask me SIL is jus train to cause trub.

user1465760340 · 12/06/2016 21:16

Bluudy ottocorrect

LuluJakey1 · 12/06/2016 21:17

I told DH he is odd in many ways him and SIL. He's happy to be odd.

Love the snippy little digs from a couple of people about 'and you're happy with that are you?' after me agreeing these are the mundane conversations that make up our daily chats. Yes, I am happy. DH and I have many little chats about all kinds of trivia- as well as other more interesting and thought-provoking things.

Woy don't you go for an upgrade then? Brit Gas have a sale on jus now.

AlfrescoBalconyWanker · 12/06/2016 21:20

It's a safety wee, isn't it. Same sort of thing you do before you go out or on a long journey.

museumum · 12/06/2016 21:20

I wee before bed, so does Dh, every girlfriend I've ever shared a hotel room with and I think every house guest I've ever had. People go into the bathroom, clean teeth, flush loo, say good night and get into bed / go into their room.

BackforGood · 12/06/2016 21:24

I too am pretty stunned that anyone would think of going to bed without going for a wee.
In the same way you go for a wee before a journey, a wee before starting an exam, a wee before the start of a theatre or concert.

Clandestino · 12/06/2016 21:27

I always do it. It's mandatory for DD.

TooMuchMNTime · 12/06/2016 21:45

oh OP, I didn't mean it as a dig, I was just asking! I don't do passive aggressive, I just wondered because sometimes people do post things and then say "I'm actually really unhappy about this".

Alfresco - a safety wee - now I've got that in my head to "safety dance". Grin

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 12/06/2016 21:56

We can pee if we want to, We can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't pee and if they don't pee, Well, they're no friends of mine

Say, we can pee when we want to, A pee they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world, Leave the real pee far behind

Pagwatch · 12/06/2016 22:03

We can pee. We can pee.

Dachshund · 12/06/2016 22:11

Hmm I don't think I do. I go if I need a wee and don't if I don't!

That said, there's nothing wrong with you doing it and it's certainly not weird in the slightest!

NapQueen · 12/06/2016 22:14

I always pee before going to bed, regardless if I've peed 30mins prior or whatever. If it's my lie in day I walkways get up when dh does with the kids, quick wee, sometimes make a hot water bottle if it's cold enough, then back to bed for my lie in which is so much more enjoyable with an empty bladder.

LuluJakey1 · 12/06/2016 22:16

I have just come to bed and have had my wee. DH had a wee too, despite having had one less than an hour ago. I challenged him about it and he said 'I am conforming to the norm. I have decided I don't want to be odd'. Grin

Now he is talking to me about a programme on Channel 4 and I'm not listening.

I can't read any more comments tonight or my mind will be on my bladder and I will have to get up and go to the loo again.

Sometimes I go in the downstairs toilet then go upstairs to bed and go again. And then at 4.30. Very annoying. Having a catheter in for a week whilst in hospital was blissful.
