to go to the loo every night before I get into bed.

Last night DH said 'Why do you always go for a wee before you get into bed, even if you only went half an hour ago?'

Doesn't everyone? He thinks not- he doesn't. I have done this since being a child. On the rare occasion I haven't done it, I don't sleep well. My bladder feels irritable in bed if it isn't empty. I have to get up in the middle of the night then.

Today, SIL comes round and he asks her if she always goes to the loo before she goes to bed and she said no.

Am I just odd?

I always go to the loo before I turn the light off. Surely that's better than getting comfy then realising that you need to go, try and forget about it for a bit and then have to get up to go anyway. A good nights sleep should follow without having to get up in the early hours which is damn annoying.

thebestfurchinchilla · 13/06/2016 15:25

I do. I thought everyone did. It makes sense. I want a good night's sleep. If I don't I will need to get up in the night or lie there uncomfortable, trying to persuade myself to get up!

TheNaze73 · 13/06/2016 15:30

YANBU. It's the law Wink

Katherine2626 · 13/06/2016 15:36

Absolutely reasonable, seemingly the norm reading the other contributors, and what is his problem? Or was it just a curious question?

PotteringAlong · 13/06/2016 15:41

I assumed everyone did!

Crinkle77 · 13/06/2016 15:45

I have an overactive bladder and go before I go to sleep but still need to get up 2/3 times in the night. I haven't even had kids so can't blame that. I need to go back to the docs and try and get it under control as it's starting to affect my life.

LordoftheTits · 13/06/2016 15:49

I do this too. If I don't, I'll lay there in the dark worrying about having to get up in the night and it'll bother me until I go Blush

I've also turned into one of those people who go to the loo "just in case". Any time we pass a toilet when out and about I'll use it in case there isn't one later and I need to go.

MissMooMoo · 13/06/2016 15:51

No i dont.
Sometimes i get into bed and realise i need a wee but just wait until the morning

Roomba · 13/06/2016 15:53

I also do this and have done since being a tiny child. I assume I did it then to avoid wetting the bed - I do it now as I really don't want to have to get up in the middle of the night if I can help it.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 13/06/2016 15:54

I don't if I've been in the last half hour or so, no. I also sometimes don't bother if I've gone up early with the kids (our bathroom is downstairs). I very rarely need to go in the night.

Kelsoooo · 13/06/2016 15:55

I do.

At one point I went four or five times in 15minutes. That was a total "in my head" thing though.

Neither my husband or the DD's go before they go to bed. But I do. Without fail.

Notmuchtosay1 · 13/06/2016 15:58

I always go before bed. Sometimes if I've not got to sleep straight away then I'll go again. I usually go at least once in the night too. Yet daytime I seem to last much longer and I'm drinking more fluids too. Must be phsycological. My OH and 3 sons never go before bed or in the night.

puzzledbyadream · 13/06/2016 16:06

I always go for a wee before bed. On Cub camp I find myself getting the cubs to "have a try" before bed and realise I have turned into my Grandmother!

e1y1 · 13/06/2016 16:10

Completely normal, I was made to do it all through growing up, it was a routine.

Still do it now, but due to medication I get up about 5 times a night for toilet anyway, so going before bed makes no difference, but still do it.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 13/06/2016 16:11

I've never made the DCs try before bed or going out either. I ask them if they need to before long car journeys but if they say no then that's fine.

Topseyt · 13/06/2016 16:11

I always go last thing before bed and then first thing in the morning as I am getting up.

I can neither sleep nor wake properly if I don't.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 13/06/2016 16:16

I need a wee now Angry

ClarkeyCat · 13/06/2016 16:24

It's definitely psychological in my case.

I go for a wee just before getting into bed. I turn off the light. Now I have to pretend to myself that I am going to go to sleep. I start counting sheep etc. Only when I am nice and comfy and about to drift off will the "real" final wee present itself!

My rational mind knows this is bonkers but I just can't help it!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 13/06/2016 16:28

I think I'm reacting to having a mum who couldn't go anywhere without needing to know where the next toilet was, making us try even if we didn't need to etc as a child, it used to rule our days out and holidays (poor mum).

I think there is something in the theory that the more often you go the more often you need to, so I have always taken the attitude that I'm only going to go if I actually need to and so far it has stood me in good stead, despite having prolapses. I normally do go before bed, but not if I don't need to, same in the morning, our bathroom is downstairs and I often go and make myself a cuppa etc before going to the loo.

Burtonalbion2016 · 13/06/2016 16:53

Wait until he gets into his 70's he won't be able to keep away from the loo at night. te,he,

Burtonalbion2016 · 13/06/2016 16:55

Wait until he gets to 70ish he won't be able to keep out the loo at night!

MamaBear98 · 13/06/2016 17:09

Yup I always do-I assumed it was normal to go before you go to bed so that you are in comfortable in bed? I also always go before having a shower, watching something long on the telly or going somewhere...that might seem excessive but water is the only drink I drink and I drink quite a lot of it as I seem to get thirsty really easily so I prefer to be comfortable before doing things/going somewhere-it doesn't stop me having to go to the toilet but it certainly helps to reduce how soon I need to go again Blush

simiisme · 13/06/2016 17:32

I always do. I call it my psychological wee.

MommaL · 13/06/2016 17:50

I only go to the loo before bed if I need to.

Tabsicle · 13/06/2016 17:52

Last thing at night and first thing in the morning. Me and OH first.
