Last night DH said 'Why do you always go for a wee before you get into bed, even if you only went half an hour ago?'

Doesn't everyone? He thinks not- he doesn't. I have done this since being a child. On the rare occasion I haven't done it, I don't sleep well. My bladder feels irritable in bed if it isn't empty. I have to get up in the middle of the night then.

Today, SIL comes round and he asks her if she always goes to the loo before she goes to bed and she said no.

Am I just odd?

It's very odd to start a thread on MN about it!
But, it's normal to do it before bed, surely?

Oh thank goodness you said that Heman. I've developed this hideous habit of waking up about 2am, then peeing every half an hour until 5-6am, when my fucking bladder finally runs out of piss and STFU.

Is just perimenopause?

I go to the loo twice before I settle into bed.

Once when I clean my teeth and then I go up and read, then pee again.

I can't sleep if my bladder isn't empty.

i always do, sometimes though if I am worried I wil over sleep, i dont, to ensure that I will wakeup early, needing a wee

I always go for a wee before bed. So does DH.

Another who always wees before getting in to bed and then first thing in the morning. Sometimes I have to get up in the night too, sometimes I don't. Always do a wee before leaving the house, and if I'm on holiday in a strange town and I don't know where the next loo stop will be and I see a loo then i use it as a precaution. I suspect that my attitude has been caused by a childhood incident in which my parents refused to stop the car when I was bursting for a wee and I had such a nightmare of a time preventing myself bursting that I have never cared to find myself "caught short" again.

Subsidiary question: does anyone else have those dreams when you find yourself sitting on a toilet trying to wee but can't, and then you wake up and discover that the cause of the dream is actually your body telling you to get out of bed because your bladder is full?

I have a pee before bed and a 6 o'clock wake-up call from my bladder.
Good for gradually getting used to the day...
Not so great when I'm supposed to be having a lie-in!

Standing joke with my oh.. He always waits for my last trip to the toilet before he settles for the night. It's not something I make my kids do as it is more of a habit than a need...

I go before bed and always go in the night too, usually around 2am. Then first thing. I can't relax when I need a wee!

Your DH is the odd one.

I do a wee, brush teeth, do another wee and often come down from bed to do a quick last one (bathroom on ground floor).

When I was heavily pregnant with DD2 I used to take DD1's potty to bed with me .

Can't get comfy with anything in my bladder!

I do too. DH often says "shall I turn the light off or do you need to go for your squeeze". I can't sleep if it's not the last thing I do and find it quite hard when camping and you have to go over to do teeth and then it's a bit weird to go 10 minutes later!

Yep same here and if DH and I have a brief chat once in bed then I have to get up and go again!

I go before bed, if i read go again before sleep. At least once through the night, sometimes twice and then as soon as i wake

If I stay awake reading then I sometimes have to get up again...I rarely get up in the night though....not since the summer of eight pints a day, I was low carbing and completely retrained my bladder I think, after managing a minimum of eight pints every day!

I pee before bed. I get into bed and read for a bit and when I'm getting really sleepy I have to go for a 'security wee' just to make sure I'm empty. Then when DS cries to come into my bed a few hours later I go again before fetching him in and that should see me through

Never turn down the chance for a wee or a drink of water.

I feel like my world has ended if i get all comfy then i need to get up for a pee i always go i had a uti recently up and down half the night

I have prolapses and have to go just before bed. And even then when I lie down I can feel I'm going to need to go again within the half hour. Bloody annoying. Plus I'll wake in the middle of the night needing to go
