I am so sick of looking at people's running routes on FB!

Fair enough if you've done a special race or been sponsored...but surely no one is interested in your regular workouts? Either exercise or don't. I don't care.

Why do people do this? Is there any other reason than just having a misplaced brag?

Am I missing something?

to add to this, i also don't care about the footage from your GoPro. unless you've captured aliens landing, or Katie Hopkins being anything other than a hateful cunt, it's not remotely interesting.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 12/06/2016 12:43

We do it for the following reasons:

  1. We've fucked up our Endomondo/Runkeeper/Strava settings and it's posted by mistake.
  1. It's a big achievement going from slob to doing anything and we'd like to celebrate it.
  1. Our running mates are on FB and we're egging each other on to do a bit better and celebrating all our successes.
  1. I They don't give a shit if you like it or not because it's my their own page and I they can post what I they like.
AntiHop · 12/06/2016 12:44

Yanbu. Exercise updates are boring, tiresome and usually smug.

Oldraver · 12/06/2016 12:46

I spent hours digging in the garden this last week...I want a tracker for that Grin

Rebecca2014 · 12/06/2016 12:46

Yes my sister does this! She's lost loads of weight, jogs and constantly I have to congratulate her or look interested when she tells me for the million time how far she's run or how much weight she's lost.

porterwine · 12/06/2016 12:46

I actually don't mind them at all. For a lot of people, especially those who never exercised or were into fitness before and have changed their lifestyle, it's an achievement. I wouldn't get annoyed if someone took up painting and posted photos of their artwork, or if someone took up a new language and posted updates on their progress. For a lot of people its an accomplishment. I really have never understood why people get so annoyed about it to be honest. Yes it may not be particularly interesting to know that Susan just went on a jog but 90% of FB posts are uninteresting to those they do not directly involve.

ninja · 12/06/2016 12:48

Basically their exercise trackers post automatically and they don't know how to stop it! (well in my case anyway ...)

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 12/06/2016 12:48

Maybe you need to exercise your thumb a little and scroll on?

Or just hide them or whatever. You can probably hide posts from Runkeeper or whatever. Job done!

HuckfromScandal · 12/06/2016 12:48

Don't flipping read it then.
Pisses me off
I like running, I like biking. Lots of my friends do it too.
Fuck off if you don't want to read about it. Unfriend me - don't give a shit.

Seriously - if that's all you've got to moan about - maybe you need to go for a run..

FauxFox · 12/06/2016 12:48

I did this a few times accidentally and was mortified - was the default setting on an app I was using and frankly I don't want my home address (start and finish point) on FB for all to see Confused

YANBU

WorraLiberty · 12/06/2016 12:49

I don't think anything anyone posts on Facebook is actually acceptable to everyone on MN, is it? Grin

If that site got shut down tomorrow, all we'd have left to moan about here is the Daily Mail.

OliviaBenson · 12/06/2016 12:52

I'd far rather look at those status updates than the "my darling child did her first poo on the potty" type updates that seem to be the rage now.

PoundingTheStreets · 12/06/2016 12:54

Most people couldn't give a fig about anything that anyone on facebook posts, do they?. Grin

OddBoots · 12/06/2016 12:54

People put all sorts on FB, ignore the annoying stuff, if we all ignore it they'll stop.

This spoof article about cycling updates appeared on my tl today and amused me though. [http://www.lavelocita.cc/opinion-page/data-disconnection]]

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/06/2016 12:55

Well. if someone else's run.is the worst thing you have read that day consider your self lucky.

OddBoots · 12/06/2016 12:56

www.lavelocita.cc/opinion-page/data-disconnection even

EarthboundMisfit · 12/06/2016 12:57

Odd, that cracked me up!

MeMySonAndl · 12/06/2016 12:59

I think there is soooooooo many people running nowadays (all good) that it has become very repetitive (BORING) to hear about it.

No problem to sheer up someone who has run their first 8k but when you have the same people posting over every weekend that they have run the same old 8k it just looses the novelty of it, by the point they reach their 25k or a marathon you are sick of hearing of it.

Birdsgottafly · 12/06/2016 13:00

I lost five stone last year. I could afford a gym, PT and had them track my losses etc.

Not everyone can and if using these trackers, helps them, then it's a good thing.

I'd rather look at their route, displayed on a small map, than the tedious drinking or moaning statuses.

There will be people on their FB, who wish them well and think "good on you", you're just not on of them.

How narcissistic is it, to think that a SM site, should run, to suit just what you want to see?

rookiemere · 12/06/2016 13:01

I quite like it - gives me info about how fast other people are relative to myself ( faster-always) and gives me ideas about routes and nudges me that I should really go for a run.

alleypalley · 12/06/2016 13:02

My running ap posts them automatically and I haven't got round to figuring out how to turn it off Blush

MammaTJ · 12/06/2016 13:03

I don't run, but I have no issues with my friends posting about their achievements.

DiggerMum · 12/06/2016 13:03

YABU - I sometimes post longer runs (maybe once every few weeks) - normally when I've broken a new distance or had a particularly hard run etc. I share it with my friends and family who know how hard I've been working to lose weight and get fit. It is something that is important to me, why is it anymore or less valid than anything else on fb or similar sites. Who are you to determine what is important to others and worthy or being shared? I expect many people scroll past my post which is fine, but the few who comment or even just like it helps me keep going and motivating myself on what has been a bloody tough journey.

Mrscog · 12/06/2016 13:03

Yeah as I runner I like them, I don't post mine but I'm really nosey about other people's pace!

Kallyno · 12/06/2016 13:05

YANBU. Smug running updates are right up there with smug housework updates.

Maybe to other runners or would-be runners it looks motivating but to the rest of the world it looks like an attempt to one-up the rest of us. I swim but it would never occur to me after I'm done to post on FB my distance or time cos WTF?
