I am so sick of looking at people's running routes on FB!

Fair enough if you've done a special race or been sponsored...but surely no one is interested in your regular workouts? Either exercise or don't. I don't care.

Why do people do this? Is there any other reason than just having a misplaced brag?

Am I missing something?

Yep I hate that too...

So far I have 3 people updating me with their progress and one is doing some sort of Iron Man thing... Great but best to do like my other friend who ran London marathon this year but only posted a few updates... And she knows she was not as fit as she could've been.

KittyandTeal · 12/06/2016 13:54

I don't generally post my run from strava unless it's been a really good time or an interesting one (like getting lost).

I post about my running all the time though. Quite a few of my friends are runners or cyclists and actually I'm bloody proud of myself. I don't brag about anything else on Fb but in just over a year I've gone from not being able to run at all, loosing 2 babies and running 10k regularly. Yep, I'm bloody proud of doing something that I find really hard and sticking to it.

And I've put in for the marathon so if I get a space my friends will be driven mad with my running updates. I don't care, they're my friends and they see it as a indulgent eye roll 'off she goes again' or some are actually interested. Lots give me loads of encouragement which I need.

I'm a vegan

Stripyhoglets · 12/06/2016 14:16

I hid someone who only posted about exercise. Bloody tedious it was. Although I have other freinds who post about their exercise in a fun and jokey manner so I like those updates.

WhereTheFuckIsMyCunt · 12/06/2016 14:39

Yeah and you know what I can't be arsed seeing your wedding photos, new baby photos, new house photos either. Stop fucking posting anything on FB.

Hmm

Alternatively chill out and scroll past stuff which you're not interested in. Apart from school report cards, which are smug mcsmuggery twat bollocks.

I think Facebook should be shit down. Apparently you can't post anything without someone getting shitty about it. And certainly don't check in anywhere.

Pagwatch · 12/06/2016 17:03

Facebook bring shit down sounds extreme.

Adnerb95 · 12/06/2016 17:08

Think there is a HUGE difference between those who are posting about something which is clearly a major achievement for them - having had weight problems, been through a tough time health wise, etc - and those bloody perfect specimens who have always been into being super-duper healthy and who are incredibly smug and boasty about it.
It is easy peasy to spot the difference!
In terms of the latter YANBU -drives me nuts!!!

museumum · 12/06/2016 17:12

I like sharing running or cycling updates with friends and seeing theirs.
I have created a sub group of my FB friends to share with but honestly I often forget to edit who can see each of my posts, especially if it's posting itself from another software.

MrsDoylesTeaParty · 12/06/2016 17:46

I agree OP but the whole of facebook is one big brag so it fits in nicely. I think people can post whatever they want, if someone doesn't like most of what they see then it's time to come off (like I did and I'm much happier for it!)

SuperFlyHigh · 12/06/2016 18:36

MrsDoyle I agree... An acquaintance of mine never stops banging on about her perfect house, super exclusive holidays (always with a Side order of her bitching about her DH) I'm pleased she is just an acquaintance!

Arkwright · 12/06/2016 18:44

I've got one on my facebook who tags all her runs with about 20 tags #runhappy #instarunners etc. I feel like commenting #wedontgiveashit.

dangermouseisace · 12/06/2016 19:09

my running mates post routes on social media because if they do they get points/vouchers via some site. Apparently if you post near places like leisure centres you get extra!

ohgoshIdontknow · 12/06/2016 19:27

I'm a runner and don't put my routes on Fbk, though I track them for my own enjoyment, but I like seeing other people's! Interesting to see how far and how fast they went.

WeirdAndPissedOff · 12/06/2016 19:47

Was coming to say YANBU as I assumed you were being bored by a friend/relative in person.
However, isn't that what Facebook is for? Most people update their pages with various things that will only be interesting to a select few.

Choice examples from my recent FB feed include: "I got so drunk last night I shit in my mate's bath" "I had steak for dinner today" "I just found a cow on Farmville" and that godawful "Marilyn Monroe" quote.

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 12/06/2016 19:50

Exactly...... What else is Facebook actually for then? Confused

I post every single one, I have a lot of friends who also run and are bloody good at it. I feel less inclined to give up and/or slow down knowing they can see my distance and pace. I am someone going from morbidly obese and inactive to be able to run 7.5 miles three times a weeky dad loves monitoring my progress on there, he lives abroad, my friends and relatives all 'like' and tell me 'well done' when I hit a new distance. I post knowing others will see and that keeps me motivated. The 'unfollow' option is there for a reason. Try it OP.

Helloitsme88 · 12/06/2016 20:15

I usually get annoyed when I've had a binge weekend and jealous I can't enjoy running. I'm usually smug as shit when I've had a great week of eating and exercise and will post my progress on Facebook or insta if I want YABU

BeYourselfUnlessUCanBeAUnicorn · 12/06/2016 20:22

YANBU. It's in the same boat as people who are on diets. Boring bollocks that most people don't really give a crap about.

I know someone who is running at the moment. Getting quite a few status updates about it, not routes but general 'I'm doing X then I'm going for a run'. I may start posting about mundane shit as well. Like a competitive mundane drive.

I actually need Facebook for certain groups on there, I wish I didn't tbh as it's so tedious these days.

EarthboundMisfit · 12/06/2016 20:55

Hmm strong opinions both ways, more OK with it thatn against. Does that mean IABU? Oh darnit. Better not start listing my other social media pet peeves...
