I am so sick of looking at people's running routes on FB!

Fair enough if you've done a special race or been sponsored...but surely no one is interested in your regular workouts? Either exercise or don't. I don't care.

Why do people do this? Is there any other reason than just having a misplaced brag?

Am I missing something?

Possibly

IonaNE · 12/06/2016 21:28

I run and occasionally make a Fb post about it, not the app data as it is but using the data. I can't understand the automatic posts - how can people download an app and not start checking all settings immediately, well before starting to use it? Don't they want to know what an app does with whatever is already on their phone?

UhtredRagnorsson · 13/06/2016 16:06

I automatically post because my running friends are all on facebook. That's what we do. Yes, I have other friends who are not running friends and they don't need to read the posts. That's how it works. They might post about their footy team (which isn't necessarily mine) or their dinner or some other thing I'm not interested in and I don't throw a big old strop because other times, I am interested in what they post. I have one friend who is obsessed with the Pistorius case. I am not obsessed with the Pistorius case. When she posts about it - I just slide my eyes over that post. That's how FB works.

MrBensMrs · 13/06/2016 16:12

I find the 'I lost a 1lb this week' even more annoying! Well done for eating less! (Seriously weight loss is great, I just don't need to read about the minutia of it each week) I have unfollowed lots of folks! Equally lots of folks have probably unfollowed me for equally annoying habits!

Paintedhandprints · 13/06/2016 16:19

Oh jog on

paxillin · 13/06/2016 16:20

I'm not on FB because I realised early on I'm more likely to keep my friends this way. I am not that interested in their lives. My own days are humdrum enough without reading about other people's diets, sports and Christmas decorations.

Ghodavies · 13/06/2016 16:25

Get a life! If they're ur friend be happy for them, is u don't give a shit maybe u shouldn't be friends with them.
Also, many people post random uninteresting crap on their social media account. Either scroll on by or get a life urself!!

eatsleephockeyrepeat · 13/06/2016 16:27

Going back to the old running routes on Facebook, are they drawing interesting pictures with their routes? Penises appear to be very popular.

80Kgirl · 13/06/2016 16:32

I find it is really easy to simply keep scrolling if I am not interested in a post. You are not obliged to click like all the time. Just ignore it if its not your thing. Your friend probably has other friends who do share her exercising interests and she is posting for them, not you.

LittleLionMansMummy · 13/06/2016 16:38

I have a friend who makes a habit of self righteous posts about running and weight loss. Literally every single update is about how far she's run today, that she's gone on holiday and given herself 'beastings' every day, she's lost x amount of weight and can now fit into [insert size] trousers and feels totes amazing etc. It's very tedious, especially as she's such a lovely, interesting, humorous person in RL.

I admit there might be a small, teensy weensy element of envy too, given that I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant and already the size of a house.

Yanbu op.

ToddlerOverload · 13/06/2016 16:39

I applaud the ones where my friends try to run in the shape of a knob... or something equally puerile, I actually find them quite amusing must get out more

FoxesOnSocks · 13/06/2016 16:39

Not a runner, and as I'm also not interested in others running I have to apps that post the updates hidden from my news feed. Where an individual posts about their run I just scroll past

Facebook is for such things as showing (off if you like) achievement, marking events and other such (often innocuous) happening. It is also for general brainfarts; some are more brainfarty than others.

AristotleTheGreat · 13/06/2016 16:48

I agree OP. A lot of people posts random crap that few people are interested in.
Or rather they are posting stuff that very close friends and family might be interested in but they forget the 359 other 'friends' on their friends list that couldn't give a shit.
I remember someone putting a 3 pages long full detailed description of giving birth (with all the gory bits). Who on earth does that for all to see? Shock

FV45 · 13/06/2016 16:49

I post some of mine (and I presume you are not my FB friend OP).
My FB friends know that running is hugely important to me. It's my hobby and I'm good at it.

I don't post every single one...that would be tedious, but I do sometimes post of the ones of interest (races, new routes, when I'm away on business, getting lost and laughing at myself, dramatic weather or gruelling club sessions)...and yeah I do post my podium finishes or when I'd proud of myself, or when it's been a massive fail.

I guess my FB friends who find that tedious can just hide me, but I get the feeling they like that it makes me happy. I'm not doing anyone any harm.

FV45 · 13/06/2016 16:51

Oh and it is NOTHING to do with weight loss. At all. I have always run and am very slim.

andsmile · 13/06/2016 16:55

OP are you fit and healthy - does it annoy you because its what you should be doing for yourself? Seems to touch a raw nerve. Why does it bother you is a better question to ask yourself.

Mozzereena · 13/06/2016 17:01

YABU.
If you don't give a shit about what your friends are doing then why have them on Facebook?

Nannaboppa · 13/06/2016 17:10

I used to weigh15 stone until I took up running 6 yrs ago (10 & half now) I rarely update any runs I do as I think it bores people, then again my fb & I'll put what I want on! Unfriend me. The thing is I've noticed a few of my friends have actually taken up running (not for long) but they tried, to try & lose weight so I do think it can motivate some people. I never mention when I'm bout to run yet another marathon or half anymore though, as it comes across as bragging. Something I never do 😁

AristotleTheGreat · 13/06/2016 17:12

andsmile I would ike to know. It seems that the OP not liking that sort of posts has hobo it a raw nerve? What is going on there?

Is it possible that you think that every single one of your post yes are always interesting, or is it that you believe that every friends you have HAS to be as interested as you are in your rides/weight loss/whatever you are sharing? Or is that you want to be sure that everyone knows how much better than everyone else you are because YOU are doing so much to get fit.
Just wondering GrinGrin

Voteforpedr0 · 13/06/2016 17:16

I don't want to know about anything anyone has done, unless it's real life conversation. I'm just not interested

EarthboundMisfit · 13/06/2016 17:16

andsmile I've already accepted IABU according to the majority. For what it's worth, I'm overweight but have run three times a week for 18 years...

OP posts:
Mycatsabastard · 13/06/2016 17:18

YABU

I have friends how are running nuts, friends who run for fun, friends who run to get fit and it's not hurting me. I can scroll past.

The only thing that annoys me is anyone posting Britain First shite because they believe in it (not to ridicule it like I do) and they only do it once because I delete them.

EarthboundMisfit · 13/06/2016 17:19

Don't get me wrong, I could be fitter and am aiming to be...I have binge eating disorder...but that's not why it winds me up.

OP posts:
Acornantics · 13/06/2016 17:23

The only time I get annoyed is when I haven't worked out for a while, and it motivates me to shift my arse and get back to the gym/go for a run. There are worse things people could be posting about.

coffeetasteslikeshit · 13/06/2016 17:25

Oh god... just scroll on and stop bloody moaning. It's so self centred to think that everyone posting on FB must post something that you find interesting.
