www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3627352/KATIE-HOPKINS-Welcome-Midsummer-madness-Ramadan.html

who wants to help me plot how to get her put in a box and posted to the north pole with no ski's?

Tattie

Thanks for the info, so what them mean is it hasn't been EXACTLY the same for 33 years. Bit of a bummer though.

StrangeLookingParasite · 08/06/2016 20:56

And the whole thing is theoretical anyway - what would happen if people didn't fast? Nothing, just the same as when they do. Same as wearing a veil or not.
I lack the belief gene.

herethereandeverywhere · 08/06/2016 23:48

Friend of a friend was knocked off their bike tonight - on a roundabout car went right into him. Driver leapt out and said, "Sorry, I'm on ramadan". Other friend then shared a story of a client who crashed last year on Ramadan when he fainted at the wheel.

Only 2 more anecdotes. But instantly reminded me of this thread.

FOAF

LiveLifeWithPassion · 09/06/2016 10:48
Hmm Nobody would say they're on Ramadan.

Thanks for your helpful made up anecdote - adds a lot.

" Driver leapt out and said, "Sorry, I'm on ramadan".
of course he did, of course he did.

I dont believe it either because its generally considered very bad form and people are brought up not to lay blame on a fast.

Howerever, people are expected to be more tolerant of each other because they are fasting but Im not sure a traffic accident would be excused because a person was fasting.

Buttock · 09/06/2016 14:02

"I'm on Ramadam" 😂😂 Yeah. Okaay.

Egosum is that "The Big Lie"?
You make up a massive lie, keep it simple and keep repeating it until they believe it. I think it was a phrase coined by Hitler too.

Then people wonder why people like Trump and KH are compared to Hitler and the Nazis 😕...history is repeating itself but most people are blind to it.

herethereandeverywhere · 09/06/2016 15:40

Isn't it against Mumsnet guidelines to call a poster a liar? I am telling the truth.

The guy knocked off his bike wasn't even that angry and found the 'excuse' almost humorous and certainly bemusing. He didn't tell his story in a Katie Hopkins foaming-at-the-mouth style. It was, "Bike got written off tonight when some idiot drove straight into me on a roundabout, you'll never believe what his excuse was?"

Calling people liars to close down an avenue of discussion just makes your argument look weak. Why seek to blot out what people are saying rather than deal with it rationally?

splendide · 09/06/2016 15:46

I'm not calling you a liar necessarily, your mate might be the liar. It really really sounds like bollocks though sorry. "I'm on Ramadan" is such a weird phrase.

splendide · 09/06/2016 15:47

Actually you said friend of a friend so there are three people in the chain who could be lying. So you can doubly not be offended as I'm only putting the likelihood of you being the liar at 33.3%

JoffreyBaratheon · 09/06/2016 15:49

Are women "on a period" more likely to have accidents?

If so, does Hopkins want to ban all women?

EveryoneElsie · 09/06/2016 15:50

I'm on Ramadan

Sounds totally believable, if you believe people like Katie Hopkins are unbiased and just reporting what actually happens (except for that photoshopped road sign)

LiveLifeWithPassion · 09/06/2016 16:26

Maybe the driver was lying.
Like I said, firstly no one ever would say they're on Ramadan and secondly, as another poster pointed out, a Muslim fasting would not blame the fasting as a first reaction due to all the beliefs around fasting.

LiveLifeWithPassion · 09/06/2016 16:28

No one is shutting down discussion but when something sounds ridiculous people have a right to point it out.

I agree with most of her points.
The U.K. is royally being shafted.
If a Christian obviously wears a cross in a Moslem country, do you think that would be accomodated?
Or opened a cafe selling bacon rolls at the roadside (like a truCkers cafe). How would that go down?
It's lovely bending over backwards to accommodate a particular religion. Not so lovely if the same tolerance is not shown in response.
Not so lovely if it negatively impacts on others who happen to share the area, either at work or socially.
Then it smacks of being taken advantage of.

JoffreyBaratheon · 09/06/2016 16:48

Yes. Why wouldn't it?

Very hard to source pigs, and... why? Is this a fundamental right you feel you're being robbed of? Katie Hopkins' right to sell bacon butties?

It's lovely bending over backwards to accommodate a particular religion. Not so lovely if the same tolerance is not shown in response.

That's OK then. I've never known a massively intolerant muslim. I'm guessing you've never known a muslim.

Not so lovely if it negatively impacts on others who happen to share the area, either at work or socially.
Then it smacks of being taken advantage of.

Does it? Intriguing. I worked in predominantly muslim areas of a large city for a few years. I can't remember ever feeling "negatively impacted" by ramadan. I grew up a few metres from a large, medieval church. The reacket them bells made was utterly negative impact. Later, I lived for 9 years in a house next door to some kind of evangelist chapel. The vile caterwauling that reverberated our walls on a Sunday (and the bizarre churchgoers' demands to use my toilet) were entirely negative impact.

(And I felt taken advantage of - or would have if I'd not told them to bugger off when they asked).

I don't see who is 'bending over backwards'. I kind of wish we were a much less tolerant society when it comes to... dicks like The Hopkins Creature.

splendide · 09/06/2016 16:49

A Christian wearing a cross is fine in most Muslim countries. I think Saudi you'd need to keep it covered.

Hidden, could you clarify whether you're pro or anti religious freedom?
