www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3627352/KATIE-HOPKINS-Welcome-Midsummer-madness-Ramadan.html

who wants to help me plot how to get her put in a box and posted to the north pole with no ski's?

Its not just one 20hours fast, its a relentless 30 days of it.. I would be fit to drop after a few days, never mind a whole month.

How can doctors, nurses, machinery operators, bus drivers etc do their jobs properly when they are dehydrated and their bodies are exhausted.

It is dangerous.

twelly · 06/06/2016 21:20

There are many people who agree with this view and they are entitled to, it is equally fine to disagree.

Unpropergrammer · 06/06/2016 21:21

They don't fast for 20 hours though. The longest day of the year has 12 hours and 16 minutes of sunlight so that would be the longest fast.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 06/06/2016 21:22

OP are you as offended at writers who insult Christians? Everyday I see posters here who use Christ's name as a swear word, but not one person ever challenges it.

Religion is roundly mocked and derided on MN yet this article is wrong? Double standards indeed.

She makes some very valid points.

JoyOdell · 06/06/2016 21:25

She's right though. She just is.

Cheby · 06/06/2016 21:26

Unpropergrammer that's not right, is it? It's still daylight now and was light by at least 4am this morning.

Petal40 · 06/06/2016 21:27

When the IRA was at its peak, did we give all Catholics a hard time? No....I'm sure most people are just muddling through living their life as best they can, regardless of religion ..

GigiB · 06/06/2016 21:27

unpropergrammar good point.

These facts don't bother Katie..
12 hours definitely doesn't sound 'dangerous' but adding 8 hours to round it up to 20, gives us visions of lots of uber drivers crashing into each other in central london ... (not sure of the relevance of the bombers at this stage)

Really?????

stubbornstains · 06/06/2016 21:28

There's been a large Muslim population in the UK since about the 1960s (sorry, not completely sure about when the majority of people from Pakistan and Bangladesh came over). Pretty much since they arrived, a lot of them have been working as taxi drivers, bus drivers, doctors, nurses etc. Presumably all this time they've also been fasting every Ramadan. Don't you think that if this was a huge health and safety issue somebody would have noticed by now? Hmm.

Hopefully this is the article that will finally get that bloody woman charged with incitement to racial hatred.

nancy75 · 06/06/2016 21:28

Unproper - sunrise tomorrow is 4.45 am and sunset is 9.15 pm, it is longer than 12 hours

Spectre8 · 06/06/2016 21:28

On a hot day like today having had no water or liquid all day and then including food, I am sorry but many people would be feeling the effects and not operating at their best.

I think she has a point though regarding time of work, if Muslims are given concessions than the same amount of time should be given to non-Muslims to be taken at an appropriate time.

it isn't fair if some people get more time off than others - that's what it comes down to

Those in more Northern areas are usually allowed to set their fast hours by mecca time (as in the north of my country they'd be fasting continuously as the sun doesn't set at all)

KH is trying to be inflammatory. The article is stupid and the links she draws to terrorism are abhorrent.

But repeated daily fasts for long durations, where you're not allowed to drink (food not so much of an issue but water is), combined with very hot weather, are not a good idea, for anyone for whatever reason. I definitely wouldn't want to get in a taxi being driven by someone under these conditions, or be operated on or whatever. Nothing to do with religion, it's just that good hydration is important if you're making important decisions.

Sallystyle · 06/06/2016 21:31

She is kind of right.

And I never wanted to be able to say that.

Surferjet · 06/06/2016 21:32

These facts don't bother Katie

Facts don't seem to bother some of you either. There's definitely more than 12 hours of sunlight at this time of year.

frikadela01 · 06/06/2016 21:32

stubbornstains very good point.

RacO · 06/06/2016 21:32

Please don't quote 20 hours. If you read carefully 20 hours in northerly latitudes i.e. THOSE WHO LIVE IN ICELAND.....

nancy75 · 06/06/2016 21:33

It's not 20 hours, it's more like 16.5

CoolforKittyCats · 06/06/2016 21:33

Only 12 hours of sunlight???

Was light before 6 am here and is just starting to get dark now at 9.30 pm

Unpropergrammer · 06/06/2016 21:34

If you google longest day of the year that's the time it gives you.

It seems short to me but 20 hours also seems too long.
