To think England is too crowded

In my town on the South coast it really is chaos and getting worse all the time. Roads are a nightmare. There are never enough school places despite doubling the entry in all primaries. Soaring rents. Building sites all over.

AIBU to mind?
What's it like where you are?

OP posts:
RestlessTraveller · 06/06/2016 14:42

What are you suggesting as a solution?

scarednoob · 06/06/2016 14:42

I live in Central London.......!

HairyMuffandProud · 06/06/2016 14:43

Yes its crowed where we are. Its not pleasant and quality of life has gone down. South East.

branofthemist · 06/06/2016 14:43

School places here are an issue. I live on a council boarder. Neither area had enough school places this year.

But we live just far enough out to be semi rural, so day to day living is fairly quiet.

treaclesoda · 06/06/2016 14:43

But if you live there you're contributing to the overcrowding Confused

ilovesooty · 06/06/2016 14:44

Shall we just skip to the controlled immigration stuff? Hmm

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 06/06/2016 14:44

It's not especially crowded up here in the Midlands. Rents are quite high I suppose but nothing to compare with those in the SE.

You're paying the price for living by the coast I imagine - I would move nearer the sea in a heartbeat if work/schools/money weren't an issue!

RestlessTraveller · 06/06/2016 14:45

Is this an immigration thread op? Or shall we just bring in euthanasia and a Chinese-style on child system?

RestlessTraveller · 06/06/2016 14:46

*one child system

MsPavlichenko · 06/06/2016 14:46

Yes, you are. Six years of Tory govt, underinvestment, cuts to local authority funding etc etc. That's what is causing the problems.

drspouse · 06/06/2016 14:47

Ooh yes the seaside! So crowded! So many people. Look at them all.

Oh wait...

To think England is too crowded
situatedknowledge · 06/06/2016 14:47

YABU If it bothers you move.

fieldfare · 06/06/2016 14:48

England, generally, no I disagree.
Your town and other major towns and cities are becoming very crowded. However, there are many other, quieter places you could choose to live.

Palomb · 06/06/2016 14:48

The county has allowed too many people in and people are having too many children. There isn't enough money being spent on the infrastructure to support it.

Things are only going to get worse.

Asprilla11 · 06/06/2016 14:48

The UK is not overcrowded, well it is, but it easily couldn't be.

The amount of available land to build houses on is vast, far far more than a lot of other countries.

We need more house being built, it's as simple as that.

And no I'm not talking about building over the countryside or wildlife parks.

Itriedtodohandstandsforyou · 06/06/2016 14:49

I hear you OP! Its the same here (wales)... its the same everywhere.

BrieAndChilli · 06/06/2016 14:50

I do think that the infrastructure hasn't been invested in to cope with the growing population rate.
For example in our village they built a new Barrett's estate, - couple hundred houses. (Plus several other new estates in surrounding towns and villages) Our catchment school is about 3 miles away in another village. There's been no new school built in our area hence the competition for school places is crazy - used to be all off catchment plus some out of catchment would always get in, now not even all of catchment get in!
Bus services to our village have been cut down so people are having to drive a lot more hence more traffic on the roads.

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/06/2016 14:50

There's no one where I live. It's white, boring, staid and static. No fresh ideas, no change, no culture that's not cream teas or hipsters. It's really empty and boring. Did I say boring again?

The roads are still shit, there are still soaring rents and housing is massively affordable.

God, I miss London.

However, it's got a low crime rate, I know my neighbours and proper wilderness is a short drive away. Welcome to BC.

StereophonicallyChallenged · 06/06/2016 14:51

I drive from oop North to the South Coast regularly and whichever route I take I see nowt but trees and fields for miles and miles and miles and miles..... Confused

ImperialBlether · 06/06/2016 14:52

One of the young women on Gogglebox said (so it must be true) that only 7% of the UK is built on.

There are plenty of areas that are not too built up - maybe you should move to one of them? The house prices will be lower there and I'm sure you'll find schools are just as good.

worldly123 · 06/06/2016 14:52

restlesstraveller, your sneering and dismissive tone is so grating and patronising. typical of the weak establishment/liberal mess to take that tone though.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 06/06/2016 14:53

London is more crowded than ever

So yes I think London has become overcrowded

Other parts of the UK I am not so sure

RestlessTraveller · 06/06/2016 14:55

Worldly back the fuck up. I just want to know what the intention of the thread is before I comment!

Itriedtodohandstandsforyou · 06/06/2016 14:57

Worldly123..I think the poster you're referring to is just being deliberately goading, I just move on.

Itriedtodohandstandsforyou · 06/06/2016 14:58
