This is the letter left on DP's van yesterday. We live at 215, attached to 213, then there's a road and then 211 where note writer lives.

I'm having to sit on my hands so I don't write a response. AIBU to think this is a bit passive aggressive or AIBU to park van there?

[Message from MNHQ: We've had to remove the attached letter as it was a bit too identiyfing. We realise the rest of the thread will make little sense now to anyone new to the thread, but we're leaving it up so the OP can continue to discuss with those already on board].

Yes, so the neighbour should back off and quit being a retched busy body. The only person that has changed the dynamics is the nosy and rude neighbour.

Kinky, I suggest getting a roof rack and a massive exhaust for the van ASAP.

SilverBirchWithout · 04/06/2016 22:52

Maybe the Neighbour has already had the Daily Mail contact her about an identifiable private letter being published on the UK's largest public forum? It might explain her shutting the door in your face Grin

I do hope DP really is paying tax for his personal use of his employer's van. Wink

Haffdonda - I am anything but a snob - we have a skoda and a nissan! I couldn't care less what anyone drives. The estate isn't particularly posh, there are all sorts of people living here. It's the rule that no commercial vehicles are to be parked on it, as much as I like it, it wasn't me that made it up - lots of estates have the same rule. I'm sure the rule wasn't intended to include company cars but I think that would be hard to enforce as unless they have writing all over them how would they know? and we don't have any company cars personally.

KinkyAfro · 04/06/2016 22:55

I'm sure I'd have heard by now if that was the case Silver. Naughty naughty Query 😂

KinkyAfro · 04/06/2016 23:04

Oh kinky you don't know the half of it!

Querty12345 · 04/06/2016 23:08

we don't have any company cars personally.

Perish the thought, magnum! God forbid one of the neighbours confused you for the hired help

KinkyAfro · 04/06/2016 23:08

It's well past my bedtime, thanks all for the input. Over and out

Adios kinky, I'm going to assume you are sleeping in a tent outside neighbours house. Have fun!

Goodnight!

Querty are 12 or just a bully?

You sound like such a joy to be around - so you'd randomly want to piss off a complete stranger for no other reason than because you could?

You can hang on to your biscuit, sounds like you need the sugar more than me.

You point out where you've been funny then and I'll use it as training.

Bluewombler2k · 04/06/2016 23:21

I just read the original OP to my DH and then read to hi. a few responses incl. Onemagnum's first (and then ongoing ones). His response: wtf??. Btw, didn't say this before: dh self-employed -check. Is aware of the taxes and insurance - check, doesn't live in an area where he can't even park his van outside his own home and no one has ever moaned about it - check. Normal person, doing a normal job, parking near where he lives. Apart from ruining 6 inches of sky, it's not the end of the world. It's not permanently there, or even at the ftont. magnum you made this about you, with your sweeping statements and assumptions. The OP only wanted advice

FantaIsFine · 04/06/2016 23:21

Magnum, you certainly did change your tune like a flautist who choked on a prawn.

Driver parks. Legally. Who the fuck can complain?

I would personally love to invite anyone over to my neck of the woods where a resident keeps a space outside their house with an upturned bin and a piece of scaffold against it. Not yet got the balls. I'm even in the luxurious position of my own drive but it pisses me off just because of entitled behaviour as it is "theirs"

Querty12345 · 04/06/2016 23:21

Haha! Well you point out where I've been a bully and I will continue to not give a fuck

Bluewombler2k · 04/06/2016 23:29

FantaIsFine prawn in flute did honestly make me guffaw

AgentPineapple · 04/06/2016 23:30

Wow what happened on this thread! Even OP has given up..

Bluewombler2k · 04/06/2016 23:31

I once got grated carrot stuck in the mouthpiece of my descant recorder. It was never the same, had to change to a treble

SilverBirchWithout · 04/06/2016 23:39

Haha! Well you point out where I've been a bully and I will continue to not give a fuck

Seeing as most of your most obnoxious posts have been deleted this may prove hard to do.

What a delight you are. Hmm

Querty12345 · 04/06/2016 23:48

Sorry silver am I supposed to care what you think?

FantaIsFine · 04/06/2016 23:57

Haha BlueWomble I switched from music to squash. Smash the damn feck out of those balls. Loving the thought of grated carrot coming out of your top A (if that is what it may have been given treble. Think that was it descant? Too long back)

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 04/06/2016 23:59

Well this went nuts.

There's joy to be had in people who claim to be all for consideration and keeping up standards in the neighbourhood getting into a fight on the internet over it.

OP: the neighbour sounds like a horror. She don't be happy no matter what. If she isn't inventing problems with being able to see a bit of van parked down the side of her house over the top of her fence, or complaining about neighbours who dare to own a caravan, she'll be complaining at the people X doors down who haven't cut their hedge (unsightly and brings the tone of the neighbourhood down), or the people across the road who haven't opened their curtains by 10.30 in the morning. You can't win with these kind if people.

lifeissweet · 05/06/2016 00:10

Step away - yes. Nuts about covers it.

Wow. That got heated beyond the realms of reason.

I don't get the problem with vans. They have to be parked somewhere - and given that, I think somewhere tucked out of the way down the side of someone's house, not blocking driveways or pavements sounds like being considerate to me.

Now you know the neighbour is bothered by it, I'm sure your DP will do his best to park the van somewhere else, but you were not inconsiderate to do it in the first place - and I do think the neighbour is being a bit petty.

So where i read onemagnum's posts with an increasing sense of wtf, I also can't understand how it got so out of hand!
