OK I'm sorry if I'm putting people off their breakfast. But I have never bothered much with doing anything about my hair 'down there'. I am not a hairy person so it's not like it's hugely overgrown(!). But all I really do is shave my bikini line, like once a year if I'm going on holiday (I don't wear a high-cut swimsuit). Seriously, what else do other people do? I'm worried now that I look like I'm smuggling a ferret down there whenever I go swimming. Should I be trimming it on a regular basis?

"it's always about porn and mens objectification of women zzz..."

That's because it's so often true. And doesn't stop often being true no matter how many times it's said. Before porn was widely available, it was rare to see another woman with her knickers off, and the pressure wasn't there. Depilation and topiary were well-known and widely available, of course, but not often chosen.

Of course, being hairless is strongly associated with non-reproductive sex for pleasure - because in nature it is normally found only in the prepubescent and the menopausal. And since the advent of reliable contraception, societal attitudes to sex have changed enormously.

PacificDogwod · 04/06/2016 11:59

You know what's really ironic? I am old enough to remember when women successfully campaigned to stop HCPs automatically shaving women's pubic hair when they were admitted to the labour ward. It was considered a significant step forward.

Actually, Viking, on the 'Beach-ready' thread several posters have mention that midwives have commented on their downstairs lack of grooming.

BertrandRussell · 04/06/2016 12:03

"Anyone would think I'd read the same twaddle on several other threads or something."

Can you explain why you think it's twaddle? And why attitudes to pubic hair have changed so radically over the past 20ish years?

BertrandRussell · 04/06/2016 12:05

"Actually, Viking, on the 'Beach-ready' thread several posters have mention that midwives have commented on their downstairs lack of grooming."

Jesus, really?? I hope they were reported pretty damn quickly.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 04/06/2016 12:07

Free choice! trends do change, so what? shave or don't but fgs stop judging those that do either

I agree with this, what a women does or doesn't do with her public hair is here business. I wax everything off. I kept doing it even when the kids were tiny and we had virtually no sex for 18 months. I'm sure I've been influenced by cultural stuff but I'm still allowed to wax off whatever I want.

PacificDogwod · 04/06/2016 12:08

MWs commenting is obviously hugely unprofessional and not acceptable, although of course MWs are just as affected by cultural/fashion norms as anybody else.
I am sure a MW in the 70s would have been shocked to encounter a Hollywood lady garden Grin

They have? Fucking hell. I'd be commenting on their lack of manners and the distinct possibility of me complaining about them to anyone who'd listen.
Cheeky fuckers.

Minge police lol
Op do whatever you wish everyone is different.

branofthemist · 04/06/2016 12:13

Shaving/waxing/chemical attack to remove hairs doesn't change where or how you sweat.

why do so many women on these threads love to tell women they are wrong about how they feel. That their pubic area can't be sweaty because they don't Experience it.

It fucking is, when I train for several hours I don't have to inject Botox or other shit because cropping the hair works. Just like I now have my hair on my head shaved. The sweat evaporates and doesn't cling to the hair like it did when my hair is long. Leaving me feeling better all over.

Get a grip. The irony is depressing.

Fwiw, men and women have shelves their bodies clean for thousands of years. For hygiene reasons, it didn't all of a sudden happen because of porn.

Science, obviously. You may FEEL less/more sweaty, only you can say, but the PP is correct when they say that you don't actually sweat more or less because of hair, which does not affect the actual sweating.

Is that hard to understand?

Hodooooooooor · 04/06/2016 12:16

Lack of hair does not equal clean. Hmm There is nothing unhygenic about body hair.

BertrandRussell · 04/06/2016 12:18

"Fwiw, men and women have shelves their bodies clean for thousands of years. For hygiene reasons, it didn't all of a sudden happen because of porn."

Well it all of a sudden happened in this country because of something! What's your theory?

SuperFlyHigh · 04/06/2016 12:28

I never used to get a bikini wax until I was I think 25 or so and that was only because a friend got them (along with pedicures) for beach holidays.

When I was in my 30s I had a brief relationship with a male friend (of 7 years) he expressed shock that I didn't "trim down there as most women do", he didn't mean full off, Brazilian etc but just trim. I sort of see his point as for oral sex it may be better to be a bit trimmed.

I do have a wilkinson sword bikini trimmer which is good. Had boyfriend after the said trim requester who liked it all off or Brazilians so went through a phase of doing that and sometimes it does get "too much" so I trim - too much being sweaty etc. I also get the odd (every few months) bikini wax and got an In growing hair for my pains.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 04/06/2016 12:29

I'm not really sure what the point is of this. I'm not really sure why I first waxed off my pubes. Maybe it was porn maybe it was watching Sex in the City.
Thing is I prefer it this way. I like feeling smooth and I feel less sweaty. I'm not going to stop waxing if you prove to me I was influenced by porn.
I prefer it this way - end of.

branofthemist · 04/06/2016 12:32

I didn't say there was. Simply that's why people did it thousands of years ago. They felt cleaner without it. Like I feel clever with my cropped short.

ah yes, that right how dare I do something because it makes me feel better. Are you for real? Of course I do it because it makes me feel better. Surely that's all that matters when it comes to my own pubic hair.

Is that hard to understand? I assume being condense song to people makes you feel superior?

Hodooooooooor · 04/06/2016 12:40

How do you know what people did with their pubes thousands of years ago? And especially how do you know how they felt about it?

Why so angrily confused? Noone gives a fuck about what you do to yourself or why. A pp was merely stating that your original point (that you sweat less with no hair) was factually wrong. Which it was. You seem to be confusing your feelings with facts.
Chill out ffs.

Hodooooooooor · 04/06/2016 12:41

I assume being condense song to people makes you feel superior?

Erm, yes?

BertrandRussell · 04/06/2016 12:53

I do wonder why some people who remove their pubic hair get so angry about it. It's almost as if they don't like being asked to think about why they do it. Very odd.

Hodooooooooor · 04/06/2016 12:59

Maybe its all the itching making them cranky?

branofthemist · 04/06/2016 13:03

How do you know what people did with their pubes thousands of years ago? And especially how do you know how they felt about it?

Because surprisingly there is a whole subject you can study. It's called historyConfused

I do wonder why some people who remove their pubic hair get so angry about it. It's almost as if they don't like being asked to think about why they do it. Very odd.

I do wonder why some people get so upset about what some people do with their public hair.

Almost as though they think everyone should be like them, and if they aren't then they are wrong. Very odd

Hodooooooooor · 04/06/2016 13:07

History, you say? Hmm. Could you recommend a book on the history of pubic hair for me? One that tells us how people felt about waxing thousands of years ago?

branofthemist · 04/06/2016 13:20

Why not study ancient Egypt. They left detailed accounts of their activities and rituals.

It's not that difficult really.

branofthemist · 04/06/2016 13:20

And I didn't say they waxed. I said they removed their hair. Do try and keep up.
