to think that this is not right

I was in my local supermarket today and encountered a woman who was dressed in pj's and a dirty old dressing gown, this was at 2pm by the way. Am I being unreasonable to think that this is not right?
It's not the first time I have seen this, sometimes it's those god awful onesies! It seems to be quite a common occurrence at our local morrisons. Now I'm no snob but what the hell is wrong with these women, how can they think that wearing your nightclothes in the afternoon and doing a full shop is acceptable. There is a lady who lives on my road and no matter what the time of day she wears a dirty old dressingown, even to collect her children from school. I don't understand people that don't take pride in their appearance, if I dressed like that my children would be mortified. Surely I'm not alone in thinking this??

Didn't it become sort of fashionable with teenage girls, onesies, pyjamas, even dummies at one stage, perhaps it's just grown from there. Personally, I would not be seen in public in my jimmies. I once walked to school in furry slippers but that was by accidentBlush... Just a note, always worth considering if a more elderly person is seen out in nightwear that they may have dementia and could use some help. X

Foreverandalways you're talking rubbish. Of course it's normal to get dressed everyday

TheWitchesofIzalith · 04/06/2016 07:53

Buckinbronco I assume you mean it's normal to get dressed every IF you're not suffering from depression. Foreverandalways is spot on about what it's like if you're ill.
However, anyone with MH issues who finds even getting dressed too daunting is unlikely to be doing a full shop in a supermarket in the first place, as I said up-thread.

Toddzoid · 04/06/2016 07:54

I really don't get it. How hard is it to slip a pair of jeans on and shove a jacket over your pj top if you really can't be arsed that much? Who would even think to go out in their dressing gown? I just don't understand.

TheWitchesofIzalith · 04/06/2016 07:56

And the joggers are never clean on the outside and I suspect have stains on the inside

I'll never be able to look at a man in grey joggers in quite the same way again after reading this! Grin
Yuk.

I just went into hysterics at this, thanks for giving me a good laugh!
My sister once went to work wearing odd shoes, sent me a whatsapp picture of her feet in the afternoon, she'd only just noticed.

Buckinbronco · 04/06/2016 08:10

Witches, if you are suffering mental illness it is a bad sign if you are unable to get dressed and ready for your day.
It means you are suffering greatly and / or deteriorating. People with mental illness may not get dressed everyday.
But it is not NORMAL not to do so.

TheWitchesofIzalith · 04/06/2016 08:14

Yes, that's what I meant. It's normal to get washed and dressed before you leave the house if you're not ill. Smile

Longdistance · 04/06/2016 08:19

Isn't it the modern day version of the ladies who used to go out in curlers and headscarf? Aka Hilda Ogden...
It was awful in the 70's and 80's, it's equally as naff now to be walking around in pj's.

BleakBetty · 04/06/2016 08:20

Meh, I don't really care too much although not something I would do myself (not at school anyway!)

I'd just throw on leggings and a hoodie. Takes two seconds and at least you look like you're off to the gym 😂

Buckinbronco · 04/06/2016 08:44

So why are you arguing with me when you agreed with me all along?

this isn't about mental illness. Don't try and make it so

TheWitchesofIzalith · 04/06/2016 08:52

buckingbronco Eh?

I'm not arguing with you, I simply found your post a little confusing, when you said that 'it's not normal not to get dressed' in response to foreverandalways -who was saying she doesn't always get dressed because of her MH issues. That's why i wanted to clarify your meaning. No argument intended, or even implied Hmm

If you'd read any of my previous posts, you'd know I absolutely do not think it is about MH issues. No need to get snippy with me.

Buckinbronco · 04/06/2016 09:01

No. It's still normal to get dressed everyday. Someone with MH issues might not get dressed but that doesn't make it normal.

Society isn't going to take on the restrictions of someone with severe MH issues as their "norm" are
They?

Does this mean we're going to see fizz and sally going to dev's/the community centre/the bistro in their Jammies? Grin

WaitrosePigeon · 04/06/2016 10:00

You will get told you are being unreasonable.

You are not. I've never encountered this when I go into Waitrose and Marks and Spencer. I don't shop anywhere else.

BertrandRussell · 04/06/2016 10:56

"You are not. I've never encountered this when I go into Waitrose and Marks and Spencer. I don't shop anywhere else."

This post just makes me want to put pyjamas on and spend the day alternating between Waitrose and the M&S food hall.

Which would be an incredible sacrifice because they both make me wat to commit mass murder.....

WaitrosePigeon · 04/06/2016 12:15

You wouldn't though, so my judgemental eyes won't have to worry Grin

WaitrosePigeon · 04/06/2016 12:15

I definitely deserve to get called every name under the sun though for that post Blush

kali110 · 05/06/2016 02:10

I just can't froth about this.
Maybe i wouldn't wear my dressing gown or house coat ( not sure what a house coat is) and go do a big shop but i just can't gt het up about this.
As for having no respect or dignity if you don't bother getting dressed in the day Hmm
On my days off i stay in my lounge pants.
I have respect for myself however i like to be comfortable.
I also somehow manage to go to work looking very respectable Grin

PurpleTango · 05/06/2016 03:15

There have been times when I have woken late for the school run. I have been known to throw a pair of joggers and a hoody over my PJ's to take the kids to school. No way would I go in just PJ's. As for people who do shopping in their nightwear - Get a grip! All I can say is you must have been dragged up. What is wrong with dropping the children to school, coming home, have a shower, get dressed, put your slap on - If you really cannot go outside without it - and then go shopping? There is simply no need to wander the aisles of a supermarket in your nightwear.
