...to think the green pepper is a waste of time?

I eat the yellow one in salads. Yum.

Mr. Red is delicious in stir fry or chicken pasta.

The stupid green one sits in my fridge going mouldy and making me feel guilty.

Green is an unripened red pepper so a pack of three peppers is the different stages they go through from unripened to ripened 😋

Thai green curry is the answer!

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 01/06/2016 19:39

I love green peppers cooked(pizza, curry etc) but hate them raw!

OrdinaryGirl · 02/06/2016 06:18

You're welcome. Grin

A mix of green and red pepper go amazingly well in a chicken or lamb curry!

SapphireSeptember · 02/06/2016 12:27

grumpy squash, your piggy is adorable! ❤

When I buy peppers I get one of each colour, red, orange, yellow and green. I do like green the least but still eat them, sometimes they taste quite nice, other times not so much.

TellAStory · 02/06/2016 12:46

We get through loads of peppers but don't like raw green so if I have any left over I cut it up and freeze it for use in curries, chillies etc.

MackerelOfFact · 02/06/2016 13:06

I hate the green ones too. I usually chop them up really small and throw them in something saucy or slow-cooked so the flavour isn't detectable. I think they include them in those three-packs just to shift them - they're obviously cheaper to produce as well because they're underripe.

Every once in a while you'll get a red/orange/yellow three-pack in the supermarket and that day is THE BEST.

sashh · 02/06/2016 13:27

Try microwaving them, they lose the bitterness. I found this out by accident when I made stuffed peppers.

InternationalHouseofToast · 02/06/2016 13:52

pass them on to someone with guinea pigs, they love them. I'm thrilled to find supermarkets that sell loose green peppers as I can just buy green - the fussy GPs won't eat red ones.

Clarkgriswoldforever · 02/06/2016 13:54

I ask for extra green peppers in my chicken satay from the Chinese. Yum Grin

LittleLionMansMummy · 02/06/2016 13:59

So what is orange? A mutant? I like the orange pepper's taste but have never really 'trusted' it exactly.

AddictedToCoYo · 02/06/2016 14:02

Green peppers are nice in curries like Baltis, or Chinese and Spanish recipes, I like them. Chicken or beef with green peppers and black bean sauce, or cod with green peppers and tomatoes with chorizo is lovely. Also in paellas.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 02/06/2016 14:44

I can't believe you're saying this, OP? Green peppers are the best and my very favourite! I eat them raw, sliced into rings of deliciousness... Shock

pearlylum · 02/06/2016 14:45

Green peppers are my DDs favourite- she will eat one like an apple.
Lovely in a green salad.

I buy 2 big bags of peppers a week, ( Tescos are cheap atm.) I use 10-12 peppers a week.

pearlylum · 02/06/2016 14:49

Green peppers are lovely with beef in a black bean sauce.
I love all peppers, red ones are lovely too, but they do sometimes have a cheesy foot smell just as they start to go off.

Osquito · 02/06/2016 15:48

As someone has mentioned, green peppers are for greek salads (salata xoriatiki). No other colour tastes right in it. But besides that dish, I won't touch the damn things.

Pasithea · 02/06/2016 16:46

Red apple , green pepper, celery, walnuts, tinned tuna, natural yoghurt all chopped and mixed together. Touch of pepper and cayenne . Lush.

The only vegetable I don't like!

ForkingFoodie · 02/06/2016 20:01

What has the green pepper ever done to anyone?! Wink

They are most delicious in beef and black bean sauce, as well as many other Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Spanish dishes etc. etc.

I mean, you probably wouldn't want to eat a whole one all on its own, but then you wouldn't want to eat a whole aubergine, or half a pound of radishes on their own either.

Green Pepper Power! Green Pepper Power!

Oh, or you could always buy those packs of economy peppers, where you can get a mix of red, orange and yellow with no greens, if it's the right day of the week - they're the same as the perfectly sized traffic light packs, except just different shapes and sizes (and about half the price!).

Look - they're lovely, really! Confused

...to think the green pepper is a waste of time?
HackerFucker22 · 02/06/2016 20:05

Sainsburys have been systematically selling a 3 pack (red, orange and yellow) for a quid. It's the main reason I go in Sainsburys some days saddo but I really don't like green peppers. None of us do

Vickster99 · 02/06/2016 20:54

Ocado do a lovely 2 pack with only yellow & orange. Problem solved!

senua · 03/06/2016 11:35

Green peppers are the best! They are a vegetable that tastes vegetably, the other colours are too sweet to be a vegetable.
Send your excess green peppers my way.Grin
