AIBU?

...to think the green pepper is a waste of time?

I eat the yellow one in salads. Yum.

Mr. Red is delicious in stir fry or chicken pasta.

The stupid green one sits in my fridge going mouldy and making me feel guilty.

I agree green ones are mean tasting.... I grow peppers and leave them on the plant till they go red (usually around October... sigh)

They are never yellow though... I think yellow/orange peppers are a different type, like yellow tomatoes?

What about Thai green curry?
(But apart from that they're minging ...)

Thrill house, that's it, black bean sauce. Otherwise I hate the green ones. When there's a takeaway with beef in black bean sauce I'm always surprised I like it. I always try it to make sure!

I love green peppers, they're by far my favourite. I love them in salads, as crudite with dips, in pasta sauces, roasted med veg, fajitas, on pizzas, in/on fact in just about anything I can get them into.

We get through at least 12 peppers (all colours a week) in our house, often more. We're all vegetarian though and I like to make sure we 'eat a rainbow every day', as the phrase goes.

I'd have probably had a bit tbh. Although I recall my extremely cautious friend going on and on about me not eating some Brie because it was soft cheese. My understanding is as long as it's pasteurised it's fine.
She's a super duper clever clogs Doc.......but I was still right!!!
I digress from all things pepper related - apologies all

Grin I love veg and eat most of it but draw the line at green pepper! But your pregnancy diet sounds fabulous, if a little on the risky side by today's guidelines! Where do you stand on blue cheese?

Littlelion - ooooh no I could never be a vegi. The things I most most when pregnant were chicken liver pâté, a medium rare streak and a perfectly poached egg.
But I do have a great appreciation for veg dishes also. Grin

I agree Zan I buy the yellow and orange occasionally because they look pretty in a mixed salad or kebab but the red and green ones have more robust and identifiable flavours, and I love the green ones in cooked dishes, red is often better raw.

Incidentally, some people might not realise that it's the same with green and black olives. The black ones are the sweeter riper green olives further down the line. Purple olives are different olives altogether. They are all great, just different and suited to different uses.

Are you a vegi Zan? This puts me in mind of the saying about a mother's love, except the green pepper 'has a taste only a vegi could love'! Wink

green peppers in a proper indian curry - delicious!!!!
My fave would be green pepper and aubergine, but the peppers also work well with cauliflower and red potato curry. The red are too sweet for these dishes and I just think the yellow and orange are a bit strange.
Greens are my favourite :)

Red peppers give me the shits, so I would be happy to do a pepper swap scheme with you.

the yellow and orange are different strains, they aren't a colour stage of the same pepper on the way from green to red!

Thank you! As I suspected, an imposter who shouldn't be trusted, despite its Devilish good taste.

BTW, Snopes on maleness/femaleness of peppers.
It's a myth.

I'll ask again, what about the orange?? What kind of voodoo is that? If green is unripe (eww), yellow is slightly more ripe and red is ripe, where does orange fit in - after yellow and before red? Or is it as I suspect a dissident?

Green peppers are the best! They are a vegetable that tastes vegetably, the other colours are too sweet to be a vegetable.
Send your excess green peppers my way.Grin

Sainsburys have been systematically selling a 3 pack (red, orange and yellow) for a quid. It's the main reason I go in Sainsburys some days saddo but I really don't like green peppers. None of us do
