...to think the green pepper is a waste of time?

I eat the yellow one in salads. Yum.

Mr. Red is delicious in stir fry or chicken pasta.

The stupid green one sits in my fridge going mouldy and making me feel guilty.

Dh agrees with you. I personally have never noticed the difference. probably says something about my cooking talent

Misnomer · 31/05/2016 19:19

I'm with you on this one, OP. I can't stand them. They taste very bitter to me. However, my husband doesn't get that taste at all and thinks they're fine - though I think he's finally given up trying to sneak them into food.

ThisCakeFilledIsle · 31/05/2016 19:20

Yanbu.

Green peppers are just unripe yellow or red ones! What a lie!!

jay55 · 31/05/2016 19:22

I love them in salad or sandwiches or with dip.
The value packs of peppers often dont have a green one.

DebCee · 31/05/2016 19:23

I always hated green pepper but have afew recipes I like now. I often make a nice (low-ish fat) coleslaw to have with pizza, baked potatoes etc:

shredded white cabbage
grated carrot
finely chopped spring onion
chopped apple or tinned pineapple
finely chopped green pepper

Dressing 1/2 low fat mayo 1/2 low fat greek yog

The sweetness of the fruit counter balances the bitterness of the green pepper. It's quite good.

ijustwannadance · 31/05/2016 19:23

I won't buy the 3 packs unless they are all red/orange or occasionally yellow.
They should leave them on the plant longer. No one would miss them.

LotsOfShoes · 31/05/2016 19:24

Gazpacho traditionally uses green pepper, not red. It's the only dish I can think of where it does go well.

FelicityLemon · 31/05/2016 19:24

I've always thought chicken and pasta were wrong together. Yes I probably am BU

FellOutOfBed2wice · 31/05/2016 19:26

They repeat on me for hours. Sly little buggers.

originalmavis · 31/05/2016 19:26

Green peppers are the bestest. No contest.

Katsite · 31/05/2016 19:27

I thought you were talking about green peppercorns. I would have agreed with you that they are useless.

Green pepper is nice stuffed and stewed in a good tomato sauce.

blueskyinmarch · 31/05/2016 19:28

Yellow for salad, red for risotto, green for chilli. That is the law!

use the green one in a chilli/curry/spag bol. Soften it with the onions it will add a nice edge.
My husband refuses to believe that the different colours taste different. (hmm)

runningincircles12 · 31/05/2016 19:31

Haha, I feel exactly the same as you about the green pepper. But it's actually not bad with stir fried beef or chicken and black bean sauce...

Crispbutty · 31/05/2016 19:33

Green is good in jambalaya too

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 31/05/2016 19:33

Green goes to waste in my house too, too bitter.

thrillhouse · 31/05/2016 19:38

It's only good for beef in black bean sauce. Which I would never make.

DH thinks the colours all taste the same Shock

ReadyPlayerOne · 31/05/2016 19:38

I get the small, sweet peppers which are yellow, orange and red.

But I like the green bell pepper in Thai curries and risottos.

Puffinity · 31/05/2016 19:38

YANBU I'm the same! Glad I'm not the only one!

gaggiagirl · 31/05/2016 19:39

Green is for chili, curries and pizzas.

MrsJayy · 31/05/2016 19:41

Only if im buying at the corner shop do i buy the traffic light pack i stick the green 1 in fahitas its a bit metalicy though not very nice.

heavenlypink · 31/05/2016 19:43

Beat me to it gaggiagirl

KateBeckett · 31/05/2016 19:43

If you ever see a purple one, don't be lured in. They are the vastard cousin of the green pepper. But even more bitter and hateful. Wankers.
