...to think the green pepper is a waste of time?

I eat the yellow one in salads. Yum.

Mr. Red is delicious in stir fry or chicken pasta.

The stupid green one sits in my fridge going mouldy and making me feel guilty.

Wow. Divided crowd. And stop the freaking bus - they're all the same thing just differently ripe? Whaaaaaaaaaaat?!

Horrible raw but great in a chilli

TeaAndBisquits · 31/05/2016 20:04

Green ones are the worst! If I get one in my 3 pack, I have to make a chilli! It's the only way they can be eaten!

Allalonenow · 31/05/2016 20:05

The green ones are fab in a Provençal tomato and pepper salad, a real taste of summer!

Quietlifenotonyournelly · 31/05/2016 20:05

Just come on to defend the humble green pepper.
I use it in,
Curry
Stir fry
Roasted with mushrooms and garlic

I also eat it raw, delicious Smile

I have some weird intolerance to red peppers they go straight through me so I'm stuck with green and yellow which, oddly, my body is fine with. I envy you red pepper eaters.

Cindefuckingrella · 31/05/2016 20:06

I like the green ones. I find the red ones taste kind of um, pooey. Just me?

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 31/05/2016 20:06

I don't like green either - a bit bitter.

Orange, yellow red - yum. I frequently buy separately so I can choose the colour.

Allalonenow · 31/05/2016 20:08

Green ones are great in gazpacho too!

frog51 · 31/05/2016 20:08

Aren't the green ones just under- ripe orange/yellow/red ones? Hence the bitter taste.

LittleLionMansMummy · 31/05/2016 20:09

I agree they're disgusting. I actively avoid them, even though it's often cheaper to buy a 3x bag than separate yellow and red. Oooer, pepper politics.

Elledouble · 31/05/2016 20:10

The holy grail is a multipack of peppers with no green one!

I think they taste sort of sweaty. I chop them very fine and put them in stir fry, if I have to have them.

ClashCityRocker · 31/05/2016 20:10

Apparently they go red if you leave them.

Mine just go mouldy.

Yes! And yes, the green ones are just unripe and inedible They are the traffic lights of vegetables, green-yellow-red.

I've never yet managed to ripen a green one though.

BumWad · 31/05/2016 20:16

You are WRONG the green pepper is the best one

SuburbanRhonda · 31/05/2016 20:18

They are perfect in Paneer Shashlik, my favourite dish at the local Indian Smile

Toooldtobearsed · 31/05/2016 20:21

My taste buds must be shot, I can'try really tell the difference🤔

Any raw pepper used to scoop humous into my mouth is fine with me!

EssentialHummus · 31/05/2016 20:25

I came on to say this too! Blush

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 31/05/2016 20:25

Green pepper is best in Mexican food of all kinds. No good raw, but better than red or yellow in lots of dishes. I need one and we've only got bloody red ones! Grin

CrowyMcCrowFace · 31/05/2016 20:34

I only buy green ones (because local delivery place does a bag of greens for 50p whereas red or yellow are a £ a bagful!).

Also, yellow ones are sickly & insipid.

The trick with any pepper is slow cooking to break down any bitterness. Any quick cooked dish eg stir fry, ok, the relatively flavourless red ones are good. But I'd definitely choose green for curry/chilli/pasta sauce/stuffed peppers etc.

SusannahD · 31/05/2016 20:38

I'm not keen on the green but Tesco keep sending me the green in my multi pack of 3 when I specifically note no green! Any how they don't taste too bad in a curry so use them up that way.

WeeWaspie · 31/05/2016 20:41

I used to eat green peppers like apples when i was pregnant - true story

MoonlightandMusic · 31/05/2016 21:09

YANBU - and this link may be of interest on the subject too... Grin

fourquenelles · 31/05/2016 21:47

I have managed to ripen green peppers by putting them in the fruit bowl with a yellow pepper and some apples. Not 100% of the time but more often than not.

SummerSazz · 31/05/2016 21:53

I have a slow cooked Spanish pork recipe and they are delicious in that and a slow cooked chilli.

Raw I do prefer red/yellow but they all get used here with no discrimination 😁
