To ask how often you wash your hair?

Now, I shower every morning and sometimes have a bath in addition (as a luxury) in the evening. But I only wash my hair twice a week. Which I thought was pretty normal and acceptable until it came up in conversation with a friend who had a look of Shock barely concealed horror. She washes hers at least every other day and thinks it's poor personal hygiene to go more than two days without clean hair.

Perfectly fine with being called a scuzzy grunge pot (I really don't think I am!) but curious to know which of us, if either, you think is BU.

Once a week maximum, once every two weeks at a minimum.

WalkingBlind · 30/05/2016 19:30

WeAre I'm exactly the same as you

WalkingBlind · 30/05/2016 19:31

For reference I have heavily bleached and heavily coloured (unnatural like blues/greens) hair. I'd have none left if I washed it every day.... That's what buns are for Grin

Leebee11 · 30/05/2016 19:32

I wash my hair every day but as a hairdresser I have clients who come in once a week and the hair isn't greasy or smelly. My hair is fine crap hair so would be revolting after a couple of days. Everyone's hair is different

DangerousBeanz · 30/05/2016 19:34

Once or max twice a week. I have thick long curly dry hair. If I wash it more often I goes like straw. If I wash it twice a week I have to use a deep conditioner on it. If I wash it once a week I get away with an extra rich conditioner.
Everyone had different hair. What's right for one is a disaster for another.

Butters1978 · 30/05/2016 19:54

I wash mine twice a week it's not good washing your hair everyday

HunterHearstHelmsley · 30/05/2016 19:57

Daily. Mainly because I go to the gym daily. Sometimes every other day if I've had a lazy gym session Grin I used to be able to go 7 days.

WanderingNotLost · 30/05/2016 20:02

Once a week, if that. I have crazy thick, curly hair, washing it is an all-evening job- two types of medicated shampoo, conditioner has to be left in for up to an hour, drying takes another 45 minutes or more. Can't be arsed to do that several times a week!

Ghodavies · 30/05/2016 20:21

Twice a week!!

ChillieJeanie · 30/05/2016 20:25

Once a week. I have long, thick hair which curls. At its current length it mainly looks wavy (and goes into ringlets as it dries, until I comb it out), but I made the mistake of having it cut to shoulder length in my teens. When it dried, the curl took it up to chin length and the shorter layers stuck out all over the place. It looked awful for ages until I could grow it out, so I will never go short again. I had had long hair since I was five and it was down to my hips when I had it cut so neither I, Mum, nor the hairdresser realised how much it was going to curl. I only wash it once a week because it takes hours to dry naturally, and I only get it blowdried when I go for a trim once or twice a year. Aside from the shampoo and conditioner I use no products other than Frizz Ease after it has been washed.

ChillieJeanie · 30/05/2016 20:27

Although I will admit I did used to dye my hair blue-black or really deep purple on occasion, so it's not completely product free. I think most of that has grown or washed out now.

Marty85 · 30/05/2016 20:33

Get ready to scream with horror but I wash mine once a week 😲 I have very dry, thick hair and have to let it dry naturally before straightening. It's a complete fizz bomb unless ironed within an inch of its life and I'm not doing that more than once a week. If it was greasy I'd have to it more often, everyone is different.

Mumnone · 30/05/2016 21:00

I wish I could do more than two days but mine looks lank and greasy after two days. Apparently it's better for your hair. It would save me so much time

IamnotaStepfordHousewife · 30/05/2016 21:03

Every evening as it is terribly greasy if I don't. My hair has always been like it. However I go to sleep with it damp and wake up with it straight. I know I'm very lucky probably wouldn't wash it as often if it was a hassle. Doesn't affect the condition of my hair as any hairdressers I have gone to have commented on.

voddiekeepsmesane · 30/05/2016 21:14

Hair is a very personal thing as each person it is different. I personally wash with shampoo and conditioner once a week ad then top up once a week with conditioner only. I have very curly, fairly dry hair if I washed anymore than I do it would look like I had stuck my finger in a socket. It is rude and ignorant of someone to think that one size fits all when it comes to hair

corythatwas · 30/05/2016 21:21

Thick non-greasy hair, so every 3 days is really all that's needed.

Mabel83 · 30/05/2016 22:04

Every other day. I have disgusting oily hair so can't get away with any longer, and have to use dry shampoo on my non-washing days. But it gets flyaway and unmanageable if I wash every day. Friend of mine can go 2 weeks between washes... I am sooooo jealous of her!!!

n0ne · 30/05/2016 23:00

Twice a week. My curly hair doesn't like it any more often than that, it gets frizzy and flat

Enkopkaffetak · 30/05/2016 23:15

Every day or it looks greasy and dull

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 30/05/2016 23:17

4-5 times a week.

It usually stinks after 48 hours.

WaitrosePigeon · 30/05/2016 23:20

2-3 times a week. Doesn't get greasy tho. Use lots of dry shampoo.

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 30/05/2016 23:24

Every other day unfortunately. Unused to be able to go a week between washes but as ice got older my hair has changed a lot and it isn't anywhere near as lovely as it used to be.

pizzaface31 · 30/05/2016 23:30

I wait for mine to go greasy, I have an extremely irritable scalp and can't use dry shampoo or anything but T-Gel so to try and save money (T-Gel costs a fortune!) and sometimes a very white scalp I wait till grease sets in Grin ! usually about 3-4 days, 5 at most

Welliwooster · 30/05/2016 23:38

Neither of you are BU. Everyone has different hair types & styles and different lifestyles - you should do what suits you and don't judge other people for being different!

IslaSinga · 30/05/2016 23:39

Every day
