To ask how often you wash your hair?

Now, I shower every morning and sometimes have a bath in addition (as a luxury) in the evening. But I only wash my hair twice a week. Which I thought was pretty normal and acceptable until it came up in conversation with a friend who had a look of Shock barely concealed horror. She washes hers at least every other day and thinks it's poor personal hygiene to go more than two days without clean hair.

Perfectly fine with being called a scuzzy grunge pot (I really don't think I am!) but curious to know which of us, if either, you think is BU.

Oh please if there is anything that's not going to be "normal" or "standard" it's hair! The idea that someone with long, thick, wavy hair that takes 2 hours to dry is going to wash it every day is just ridiculous. Your friend needs to stop being so idiotic.

GreenMarkerPen · 29/05/2016 18:15

it gets wet in the shower (most mornings) but I only wash it with shampoo twice a week.

laidbackneko · 29/05/2016 18:15

Both my friend and I have longish hair. I'm Euroasian and she has quite fine dark blond hair.

Every day. I wish I didn't though. I just can't bear having it greasy. I know this makes it worse but it turns my skin so much to have it dirty I can't do the required leaving it for a day.

I do air dry it though, so it's not high maintenance.

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 29/05/2016 18:15

Every other day. But when I dye it, less frequently to preserve the colour.

PointlessUsername · 29/05/2016 18:16

At least every other day. It feels grim otherwise.

heron98 · 29/05/2016 18:17

every other day. It looks really dirty by the time I wash it. I do run and cycle every day though so that's probably why.

RubyGoat · 29/05/2016 18:18

3 times a week - it goes an extra day at the weekend. I'd love to go longer, but by the evening of the 2nd day it's already pretty oily.

Shesinfashion · 29/05/2016 18:18

Once a week. I have long hair which is quite dry. It looks better if I don't wash it more often. Dry shampoo and oil serums for the ends ensure it looks fine.

TroysMammy · 29/05/2016 18:18

Every morning unless it's the weekend and no plans that day. Dirty hair, smelly body, no makeup.

MadisonMontgomery · 29/05/2016 18:19

About twice a week. Any more than that and it gets dry and manky. I do have a bath or shower every day tho so I don't feel that I'm dirty.

RubbleBubble00 · 29/05/2016 18:19

Twice a week or 3/4 days. It's really long, coloured so it's drier, I wear it up most days so doesn't get as dirty, I wash my fringe every other day if I'm wearing fringe down

HappiestMummyAlive · 29/05/2016 18:20

Every evening, not in the shower though. I also have to wash DDs hair every night also.

snarferson · 29/05/2016 18:21

Every day. It's really fine and gets greasy really quickly.

Gide · 29/05/2016 18:22

Never, can't remember the last time I used shampoo. I use leave in conditioner, thoroughly rinse it out every morning and put more on. It then air dries. The primary ingredient is laurel sulphate, I think, which is horrible for hair, as is anything containing silicone. I'm told my hair looks amazing. It's spiral curls.

laidbackneko · 29/05/2016 18:23

Just wanted to add that I don't think the Shock was meant bitchily! In fact I found it really funny and we both couldn't stop laughing at her initial 'outrage' in the end Grin

TheWindInThePillows · 29/05/2016 18:23

Every other day, alternated with dry shampoo.

It does get greasier if I go to every day, it's fine lank hair (sounds like a shampoo advert) and so doesn't look great when not washed. Dry shampoo brill though, makes it look lovely on second day rather than just hanging down.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 29/05/2016 18:26

Once a week I get it washed, dried and styled at the hairdressers (not being smug, I have health problems that mean I really struggle to do it myself) and it looks better and healthier than at any other time I can remember.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 29/05/2016 18:27

Ps not saying anyone else is BU though!

OhSoggyBiscuit · 29/05/2016 18:28

Every couple of days. It doesn't need to be washed more then that really.

Paulat2112 · 29/05/2016 18:28

Everyone is different. My hair gets greasy very easily and needs washed every day. My mum on the other hand, her hair is the opposite and she gets it washed once a week at a salon and it lasts her the whole week!! I don't think it makes you dirty if you can go a few days or a week or so without washing it, so your friend is wrong. If you hair looks like it needs washed and you only do it twice a week then i would agree with her. Nut i'm imagining your hair looks fine or you would wash it more,

meganorks · 29/05/2016 18:28

I think it is more down to hair types and what products you use in your hair. If it doesn't need washing then don't bother. I was mine every other day as it just looks greasy otherwise.

Ilovewillow · 29/05/2016 18:29

I think it probably depends on short/long and type of hair! I do mine everyday but it's short and fine. When it was longer I washed it every other!

HazelBite · 29/05/2016 18:31

when I'm at work my hair gets really grubby, the air in London is gross so its every day or every other at a push.

When I'm at home I try and leave it as long as poss so it gets some natural oil in it so when at home I can go about 5 days until I think this really needs doing.

Boogers · 29/05/2016 18:32

Every day. It looks like an oil slick when I wake up, and dry shampoo just makes my hair look grey(er) without taking away the Castrol GTX look.
