To ask how often you wash your hair?

Now, I shower every morning and sometimes have a bath in addition (as a luxury) in the evening. But I only wash my hair twice a week. Which I thought was pretty normal and acceptable until it came up in conversation with a friend who had a look of Shock barely concealed horror. She washes hers at least every other day and thinks it's poor personal hygiene to go more than two days without clean hair.

Perfectly fine with being called a scuzzy grunge pot (I really don't think I am!) but curious to know which of us, if either, you think is BU.

Everyday pretty much

I have very short hair that has wax on it to give it texture and spike it a little

ICanSeeForMiles · 29/05/2016 20:22

Every single time I shower if I shower 3x a day then I wash my hair every time

I cave my shower very hot though and if I ever didn't wash my hair I would feel like my scalp was sweaty.

SabineUndine · 29/05/2016 20:22

Every other day. If I leave it for a third day it looks gross. I would say, though, that this varies from person to person. I hate washing my hair and would leave it longer if it didn't look disgusting.

MsBojangles · 29/05/2016 20:25

Once a week - my hair is ridiculously thick and dry it just doesn't seem to get greasy. I could leave it longer and it would probably still look fine, might whiff a bit though!

I used to be envious of those 'wash and go' types but my hair is pretty awesome in it's own way - long, thick with a ton of volume...and really low maintenance Grin

SabineUndine · 29/05/2016 20:25

Brummiegirl15 I hear you. I've had several operations and couldn't wash my hair for a week after them, by which time it was revolting. Ugh.

summerdreams · 29/05/2016 20:27

Twice a week idealy but sometimes once its much better for my hair natural oils restore and looks healthier the less its washed.

VoldysGoneMouldy · 29/05/2016 20:31

Maybe every five days on average? Sometimes more, sometimes (rarely, for special occasions) less. I have thick curly / wavy hair, which takes bloody hours to dry, I don't use heat or products on it, so it doesn't need it. Stays looking fresh until day four, and even then, thrown up with a hair stick it still looks reasonable.

NatalieRushman · 29/05/2016 20:33

Every 2 or 3 days. The whole process of washing takes a good half an hour, and drying takes a couple of hours (that's my fault for hating hairdryers Blush). Any more often results in dry ends and a greasy scalp for me.

NatalieRushman · 29/05/2016 20:36

I should probably also mention that I have bum length hair. Hair drying with a hairdryer makes my arms hurt. In fact, just washing all my hair is an intense arm workout.

laidbackneko · 29/05/2016 20:40

natalie haha, I know what you mean! I used to have waist length hair many moons ago and used to count it as one of my 'exercise days' Grin

Every 4-5 days
I'm 50+ it's dry and wavy and looks much better when left for a few days

BuunyChops · 29/05/2016 20:51

Ok as said above a daily one.
Hair as of yesterday is jaw line.
I wash, condition, rinse, and tend to wander around with towel turban while moisturising dressing etc.

Then 3-4 minutes with the dryer and a bit of wax and done. …

Juanbablo · 29/05/2016 20:53

Twice a week. I have thick, long hair that tends towards the dry side. It never looks greasy and I get a really dry scalp if I wash my hair too much. I shower daily though.

Tiredbutfuckingfine · 29/05/2016 21:08

Every day otherwise my scalp starts to crack and bleed. Wish I could do it twice a week! Takes ages to wash and dry it and it's not even long :(

thebestfurchinchilla · 29/05/2016 21:11

Every 3rd day but if it still looks ok I leave it longer. My hair is lightened and I think that dries it out so it takes longer to look greasy. I shower daily btw!

lapsedorienteerer · 29/05/2016 21:12

Every day

MummyBex1985 · 29/05/2016 21:16

Twice a week, or three times depending on how often I can be arsed with the gym.

I use dry shampoo in between to rid myself of the grease!

CantChoose · 29/05/2016 21:16

When it's greasy... It used to be daily but now I'm taking medication which makes it dry as a side effect (weird...) so it's every 2-3.

MackerelOfFact · 29/05/2016 21:21

Every day. I go to the gym about 4 times a week and commute to Central London on the tube, so it does get grubby. I also can't bear the smell of food lingering on my clothes or hair.

If I lived in the countryside, spent a lot of time out in the fresh air and didn't cook or do exercise then 2-3 times a week would be plenty.

Wickedwitchofsouthwest · 29/05/2016 21:23

I got fed up with my hair being greasy within a day of washing it so I did research and found out about a poo ( no shampoo) group on fb. Now I wash every 4 to 5 days. Shampoo makes our hair oilier by stripping all our natural oils out making us wash more so we buy loads more shampoo products. Making companies rich.

Wickedwitchofsouthwest · 29/05/2016 21:25
  • no poo
Zaurak · 29/05/2016 21:30

Every other day. It's waist length and v thick. When it was short short I washed it every day.

The smell of unwashed hair is pretty unpleasant.

BG2015 · 29/05/2016 21:32

Every 2/3rd day. I have dry, coarse hair. I do straighten it everyday though.

I also shower everyday or twice if I've exercised.

My DM has her hair 'done' at the hairdressers every Friday and rarely washes it herself.

Liiinooo · 29/05/2016 21:34

I have thick straight coloured and high lighted hair. I shower every day wearing a shower cap and wash my hair every 6-8 days. Washing it takes ages - an hour long treatment beforehand (Philip Kingsley elasticizer) then about an hour to blow dry volume into it. About two days in it gets a bit flat and greasy looking but a light blast with dry shampoo at the roots soon sorts that out.

I am middle aged and dumpy so my hair is one of the few things that still receives compliments. I know this regime wouldn't suit everyone but it works for me.

anotherbusymum14 · 29/05/2016 21:36

Every 3-4 days, or twice a week approximately. My hair is getting dry though and copes with washing less regularly these days. It would strip my hair of nutrients to do it every day (well that's how I feel).
