She wore this dress to the semi-finals of BFT

I grew up watching the wonderful family show Gladiators every Saturday evening.

Remember those outfits? :o

Chippednailvarnishing · 24/05/2016 23:52

I'm waiting for the judgement of her as ample assets, endless pins and any potential wardrobe malfunctions fox Grin

SorryYouWhat · 24/05/2016 23:52

Isn't the problem with the dress that it is overtly sexually suggestive for a prime time show watched by younger children?

It is more than a bit of cleavage/leg. The dress is designed to convey the idea that the wearer is not wearing underwear - which is a purely sexual message. There is a time and place for a dress like that and it's not when underagers could be watching.

That's nothing to do with her age, whether she looks good or is attention seeking. It is just flat out inappropriate because it is over sexualised dress for a younger audience that should not be exposed to that.

iLikeBoringThings · 24/05/2016 23:53

I think they both looked beautiful!

Love their styles and think they are both stunning women.

WorraLiberty · 24/05/2016 23:54

Chipped, I've been on MN for about 5 years and it's always been full of Daily Mail readers in denial Grin

MistressMerryWeather · 24/05/2016 23:57

I was about to post some pictures of the Dolly Dealers from Play Your Cards Right and their scandalous outfits but I fear I may get banned.

MistressMerryWeather · 24/05/2016 23:59

Oh and Hunter displayed more cleavage every week than either of the women on BGT.

I miss the 90's.

cupidsgame · 25/05/2016 00:03

Of course it's the two women out of the four judges who come under scrutiny for what they wear. Theyre the ones pulling out all the stops to look good. The men basically look the same every week. A bit like Abba, you don't notice the men, just the women. I think they maybe try a bit too hard though. It's not about them......I loved that blue lace dress Amanda had on the other week though.

Philoslothy · 25/05/2016 00:10

To be fair if Ant or Dec had gone out of their way to look as if they had no underwear on people would comment.

IPityThePontipines · 25/05/2016 00:21

Still, at least we have women on judging panels now. A bit different to the old days of TV. So that's some progress

Actually, I think we've gone massively backwards with regards to women on tv.

Look at all the fuss at gasp two women presenting Strictly.

When I was young:

A middle aged woman hosted her own prime time tv show on a Saturday (Cilla),

One of the top comedy shows was about three average looking women, one of whom was fat and two were working class (Birds of a Feather)

Another big comedy series was about the life of a middle-aged woman (Keeping Up Appearances)

The top tv detectives were either a middle aged woman (Jessica Fletcher), or Mrs Marple.

The unashamedly mumsy Victoria Wood was all over everything.

How much of that would happen now?

Destinysdaughter · 25/05/2016 00:28

Top of the Pops in 1977, a 'family friendly' show.

Plus ca change...

Oh here comes the matriarchy telling women what to wear Hmm.

I'm not a fan of Amanda Holden but she looks incredible in that dress. Alesha looks beautiful in anything. They probably felt beautiful and that's all I care about.

HandsomeGroomGiveHerRoom · 25/05/2016 07:29

First thoughts on seeing that white dress were along the lines of "good Lord woman, put yourself away'. But I don't like AH. She might be lovely irl, but her and Cheryl Cole look like they'd have been massive bullies at school. I accept this is irrational Blush

If someone else had been wearing that dress, I might have liked it.

Of course they do!

Bluedolphin1971 · 25/05/2016 08:10

Haven't watched the show, hate it, but I think they should wear what they like. If they are happy enough with what they are wearing then that's all that matters, it's just the same as you wear what you like and if your happy with it then that all that matters.

I find the way Amanda claps annoying.
If she really likes an act she will stand up, stick her arms straight out in front of her and clap without bending her elbows.
I call it the seal clap.

Elle80 · 25/05/2016 08:23

When Amanda Holden laughs she reminds me of a sneering school bully

LunaLoveg00d · 25/05/2016 08:26

I don't watch Britain's Got Talent but I do know who Amanda Holden and Aleesha Dixon are. I don't think either of them look great to be honest - one is clearly trying to outdo the other one and grab headlines, race for the "who can have the tackiest outfit" competition. Amanda's dress is clearly very expensive and designer and would have looked amazing without the gap down the side. Aleesha just looks like she's forgotten to put her skirt/trousers on.

RhodaBull · 25/05/2016 08:33

I didn't think Amanda Holden looked great last night. She looked as if she had been sort of scorched - quite red, as if she had been dunked in a red-hot bath. Perhaps it was an all-over skin peel?!

99GBPChargeToUseMyPostsJournos · 25/05/2016 08:58

I don't know about everyone else but these 'not suitable for a family show' comments amuse me greatly.

When I was a kid I didn't notice whether or not things were 'sexy' - there was a video by sabrina, 'boys boys boys' I think, where she was jumping in a white bikini and her nipple was obvious. My dad was apoplectic about it. I had no idea what his issue was.

If your kids are innocent they won't notice/care. If they aren't innocent - then there's a bigger issue than Amanda Holden's dress.

And quit with the woman-bashing. Jesus, places like the Daily Mail are bad enough, we don't need it on here - a website by women for women! (any anyone else that want to join in...)

OnTique · 25/05/2016 09:04

Blimey Shock What on earth has the poor woman done to deserve all this? Confused

Agree with 99 100%.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/05/2016 09:15

God her hair is just lovely. I wish I could get mine like that

Anyway, she can 100% wear what she likes and I think she looked amazing in that dress BUT I do think it's true that women on TV are expected (by whom?) to dress in a more and more provocative way while men aren't.
