To think seeing an older lady curtesy to KM is sad to see

Just saw a photo of an older lady curtesying to Kate Middleton, I felt so sad to see it. Sad as to why anyone would feel the need to bow down to another human being.

Every day I shake my head with who people admire in this world and how the general public swallow all these pr machines. 😒

Most republicans are not against the royal family as individuals, but it is the Monarchy in general we oppose.

Doesn't publicly attacking individual royals alienate some potential supporters of the principle?

Gazelda · 20/05/2016 13:44

Whatever your opinion on royalty, I think some posters on this thread should be ashamed at the way they have judged another woman, or thought she was fair game for horrible insults. Very few of us know Catherine. She doesn't deserve this nastiness.

GraysAnalogy · 20/05/2016 13:46

It seems an opinion on KM is seen as bitchy and we should just swallow the royal pr machine

So calling her a 'workshy, lazy, BROOD MARE' who is 'thick' isn't bitchy? Funny how there's never as much vitriol aimed at the male members.

I'm all up for a debate on the ethics and questionable funding of the royal family, but that's not what younggirl is doing.

DailyMailFodder · 20/05/2016 13:46

I'm a republican. I don't have anything against the Royals as individuals but i don't think there is any place in modern society for a Royal family. The concept is so outdated it's ridiculous.

I just can't understand why people think so much of them. If I had untold wealth, servants and a life of luxury I'd be happy to do some public appearances and a bit of PR work.

I would not bow or curtesy to any of them. I wouldn't be rude though.

derxa · 20/05/2016 13:47

Oh get over yourself!

TimeforaNNChange · 20/05/2016 13:47

It is ok for grown adults to think/deduct she is work shy, lazy and to not believe the spin.

Of course it's ok to think it - but to express it on MN is a breach of talk guidelines.

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 20/05/2016 13:48

Well Gazelda she can always relinquish her life of privilege and get back behind the tills in Jigsaw or whatever proley job she managed to hold down for 3 minutes while baldie tried to decide whether he could face being married or not...

I sincerely hope the monarchy is long gone before any of us (or our children) have to worry about dimwit being queen. King "tampongate" Charles should ensure that happens which is why he is the only one i like

hellsbellsmelons · 20/05/2016 13:49

With the title certainly comes responsibility.
You sound very bitter and very very jealous!!!

And I'll ask again.
How do you KNOW she was waiting around doing nothing???

No-one HAS to curtesy. Some people want to out of tradition.

MaudGonneMad · 20/05/2016 13:50

Of course it's ok to think it - but to express it on MN is a breach of talk guidelines.

Is it? It's not a personal attack on a poster.

Just5minswithDacre · 20/05/2016 13:51

YANBU OP

Gray why is it misogynistic to observe that Kate Middleton is a 'dim and lazy parasite'? Confused

It might be a bit sharp, it might be near-the-knuckle, but misogynistic is an odd accusation.

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 20/05/2016 13:51

I still don't see how it's any different to calling Cameron a "cunt" or Gideon a "stuck up twat" or any of the other delights we all read on mumsnet on a daily basis? Genuine question...

You will have gathered I dont much like any of them Grin make, female or otherwise! However the OP was specifically about KM.

Julia2016 · 20/05/2016 13:52

Oh I would add Andrew and his daughters to KM.

derxa · 20/05/2016 13:53

Yet another attack on Kate. What a bunch of snobs

cdtaylornats · 20/05/2016 13:53

Back in the 70s we used to remind the republicans about the 4 scariest words in English - "President Foot, President Thatcher"

sharknad0 · 20/05/2016 13:54

It's very sad, when the only thing this woman has ever done is to get married. I don't get it either.

It's great someone defends Kate Middleton, but what exactly has she done? Nothing until she got married, and she was 30 then, not 18, so she had plenty time to accomplish something other than shopping. Does anyone one really believe the university would have failed Prince William girlfriend?

What is she doing now? She has 2 kids, but a lot of help. Good for her, but nothing to be in awe about. Give all the mothers of this country cleaners, chauffeurs, nannies, cook and so on.. and ask them how hard life is.
She does a few engagements here and there, but is obviously a lot more interested by sport or events with celebrities than anything else.

Other royals, even the commoner born, have achieved a lot more and are awfully more inspiring than Kate.

MaudGonneMad · 20/05/2016 13:54

There are other models for a republic than a head of state with executive power.

derxa · 20/05/2016 13:54

an older lady How bloody patronising.

TimeforaNNChange · 20/05/2016 13:55

I still don't see how it's any different to calling Cameron a "cunt" or Gideon a "stuck up twat" or any of the other delights we all read on mumsnet on a daily basis? Genuine question...

It's no different, and those are personal attacks too.

As far as I am aware, the guidelines prohibit personal attacks. It's not limited to attacks on current MN members. And whose to say KM isn't a member ?

Just5minswithDacre · 20/05/2016 13:55

Hardly 'snobs' derxa. I'd guess the opposite. I don't think the French or Russian revolutions came about because of snobbery from the masses Smile

HazelBite · 20/05/2016 13:55

When HM came to our place of work I was asked if I wanted to be in the "receiving line" I declined because I do not agree with the monarchy and I was told that I would be expected to curtsey.

I think you are being a little bit unfair about KM, she out of all of them has at some stage(during her childhood) led a more normal life.

The fascination with the royals is utterly beyond me, what have any of them done that deserve being bowed/curtsied to.

I watched a programme a few weeks ago that was showing private cine films that were taken/made by the family over the years and was struck by what unbelievably privileged lives they have all led, and how they can not possibly have any conception of how the rest of us live. The crying when the royal yacht was scrapped illustrates this as well.

cdtaylornats · 20/05/2016 13:55

How would you feel if we had a President and everybody in the room has to stand until they sit? That is the US tradition.

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 20/05/2016 13:55

Absolutely cd I remember it well! And these days it's probably Blair or Cameron.

All of which would be terrifying in themselves but still not a good enough reason to preserve outdated feudal traditions imo.

Floisme · 20/05/2016 13:56

The difference is, that people would have voted for Foot or Thatcher. And could equally vote them out.

Scaredycat3000 · 20/05/2016 13:57

KM did get a job after she graduated university, luxury fashion brand office job . She somehow managed to keep the job for a yearish, as I recall, before the hounding and constant presence of journalists made it impossible to continue. As a company employing the long standing GF of our future King the practicalities, unless employing her to represent/model, would be a massive headache. What was KM meant to do?
And what we think the Royals expect and what they really expect is probably very different. I can't imagine for one second my Aunt used to curtsy to Charles, Diana, Philip etc before she pulled them a pint at their local.

NewLife4Me · 20/05/2016 13:57

mc people have always been like this about the royals, it's nothing new.
The wc just get on with it and curtsey, mc always have a bloody chip on their shoulders.
it reminds me of the old class comedy sketch.

I look down on him.....
