To think seeing an older lady curtesy to KM is sad to see

Just saw a photo of an older lady curtesying to Kate Middleton, I felt so sad to see it. Sad as to why anyone would feel the need to bow down to another human being.

Every day I shake my head with who people admire in this world and how the general public swallow all these pr machines. 😒

I'm older and a semi-royalist.. I could imagine a reasonably deferential nod to the Queen or Prince Philip. Possibly also Prince Charles.

But I would never curtsey, and I definitely wouldn't to KM for all the reasons the OP is implying.

Julia2016 · 20/05/2016 13:26

True Eponas..

chronic yes of course there are differences - and I expected someone to post as you did - but to call her a lazy brood mare when all she has done is marry the man she loves and have his children (THAT is what I meant by doing what many women do) is pathetic.

hellsbellsmelons · 20/05/2016 13:29

Work shy????
Who said so????
This confuses me way too much.
She has 2 young kids, travels all over, is becomming an ambassador, is a duchess and has loads of public appearances. Travels the world over to 'work'
Have you all been reading the Daily Fail too much?

molyholy · 20/05/2016 13:30

YADNBU

Hereditary privilege should be done away with.

Curtseying to a 'Princess' or any other elitist is fucking cringeworthy.

Tory politicians have fucked over many a family, Kate Middleton has done nothing of the sort. She's just a woman who yes, has privilege, but hasn't done anything to warrant the sheer vitriol you or others shoot at her.

molyholy · 20/05/2016 13:33

TimeforaNameChange

Most republicans are not against the royal family as individuals, but it is the Monarchy in general we oppose.

There are losts of valid arguements against the monarchy if you visit the Republic.org website.

cosytoaster · 20/05/2016 13:33

I'm not anti royal but I wouldn't curtsey*, it's just too deferential and outdated. I think the personal insults are unnecessary.
*I might make an exception for Kylie Minogue!

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 20/05/2016 13:34

Never read the Daily Mail. A degree educated woman whose entire life is defined by a male-dominated hereditary monarchy and the kids she has produced is no example to our daughters (or our sons, for that matter). She did precisely FA for years whilst waiting for baldie to propose. He dithered. Would you want that for your daughter? I would hope mine is more ambitious and has more self-determination and respect. Do you think she would have been quite as willing to wait if he was a long distance lorry driver? Nope, me neither.

And it's obvious that she is thick as mince every time she opens her mouth. Which luckily is not very often.

hellsbellsmelons · 20/05/2016 13:36

I might make an exception for Kylie Minogue!
I was originally wracking my brains and though Kym Marsh! Why??

BeautyQueenFromMars · 20/05/2016 13:36

Almost any adjective may be applied to a Tory politician but bitch about the royals and there is always a forelock-tugger ready to accuse you of being meeeeean!

I have no opinion on the Royals, I'm definitely not a forelock-tugger, I don't think anyone should bow down or curtsey to anybody, but you are being unnecessarily nasty about a person.

Sallygoroundthemoon · 20/05/2016 13:36

OK to the Queen. Definitely not to KM.

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 20/05/2016 13:37

True moly but can't I do both?!

I think several members of the royal family are extremely hard working. I respect that but I wouldn't bow/curtsy to any of them (or anyone else).

hellsbellsmelons · 20/05/2016 13:39

Well aren't you a delight!?
How do you know she did NOTHING?
Do you know her?
Did you see her playing on the x-box and watching TV all day?
You don't KNOW!
So stop making assumptions.

Well done on your degree. It appears it makes your opinion far more 'worthy' than people without one!

Floisme · 20/05/2016 13:39

I would curtsey to Vivienne Westwood, Patti Smith and Eric Cantona. That's it.

GraysAnalogy · 20/05/2016 13:39

Every time she opens her mouth she has to be closely guarded in what she says, I hardly think you can base her intelligence on the pleasantries she has to make on her visits. Or the coached and pre-written speeches she has to make.

And even if she was 'thick' so what? Are people not allowed to be intelligent anymore? Is a woman not worthy?

BananaThePoet · 20/05/2016 13:39

Curtseying to Kylie Minogue makes sense especially if you are tall - would make conversation easier. I'm the same height as Kylie and I'd find life much more convenient if people would curtsey to talk to me. Wink

EponasWildDaughter · 20/05/2016 13:39

I'm reminded of a Black Adder quote:
Sir Talbot Buxomly to the Prince Regent:

''It minds me not that you dress like a mad parrot and talk like a plate of beans negotiating their way out of a cow's digestive system. It is no skin off my rosy nose that there are bits of lemon peel floating down the Thames that would make better Regents than you ... [but] The fact is, you are Regent... appointed by God, and I shall stick by you forever, though infirmity lay me waste and ill health curse my every waking moment.''

GrinGrin

Personally I'm waving the republican flag now.

TeenAndTween · 20/05/2016 13:42

Well I think YABU.

I like the monarchy.
It is part of our tradition and our heritage.
We have a non-political head of state that gives stability and continuity. I'd much rather that than e.g. Donald Trump.
The monarchy is respected across the world, and brings tourism to our country.
KM is not only bringing up her children, but representing her country. It is likely she will be working well past normal retirement age (look at the Queen age 90).
Yes they have a life of privilege, but their every move is scrutinised and criticised and they have little privacy.
I wouldn't be royal for 10 million pounds.

Zaurak · 20/05/2016 13:42

Not quite sure where I am on this debate. Hereditary privilege has a lot to answer for but I bet the queen is an absolutely fascinating person to chat to - she's been briefed weekly by the PM of the day her entire reign. She also knows how to keep schtum- she must know some stuff!

I'm ambivalent on KM. I've never met her. If anything, I feel a bit sorry for her. A cage is still a cage, regardless of designer handbags and immense wealth. I'd not swap money and status if I had the press criticising my every clothing choice and I could never pop out incognito

What we need is a little less of 1% of people owning vast tracts of land and a move towards them being what they should be - decorative and symbolic to bring him some tourist dollar.

Julia2016 · 20/05/2016 13:43

It seems an opinion on KM is seen as bitchy and we should just swallow the royal pr machine.

It is ok for grown adults to think/deduct she is work shy, lazy and to not believe the spin. My values admire very little about her or any of the royals.

OP posts:
YoungGirlGrowingOld · 20/05/2016 13:43

It's reprehensible to curtesy to any other human - but she is in her ridiculous position because she waited around for some bloke to propose to her and he happened to have the weight of some barking feudal system behind him to provide her with a lifestyle most people can only dream of.

Yes, I think that's pretty disgusting - but when the individual in question seems to have few of the traits that most of us admire and respect (eg a work ethic) then the idea of bowing and scraping before her becomes laughable.

And since when did "duchess" become a job? And how do I apply?!
