To think Brooklyn Beckham should be at school

He's 17 - why is he gadding around LA with an actress when he should be in school. Isn't it compulsory for kids in the UK to be in education until they are 18 and is it not a civil offence to take your kids out of school ( to gad around LA) during term time. Shouldn't he be doing AS exams like my 17 year old

Having mega rich parents does not mean you will not work hard if academically gifted. See Dhani Harrison. If you are not academically gifted but have mega rich parents it just surely allows you to lead the life you want. Sadly my kids are not academically gifted nor are we rich so they will normal lives like the rest of us.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 20/05/2016 06:39

He's been doing some work as a photographer. Other more experienced photographers are hacked off as he's been getting jobs on decent fashion shoots where they say that normally you have to have years and years of experience. Only as second photographer, not the main one. But they're still annoyed. Which I can understand.

KittyWindbag · 20/05/2016 06:51

Oh leave him alone. He's 17, he's young and in puppy love, and it's really nobody else's business.

treaclesoda · 20/05/2016 06:55

I never thought I'd utter these words but I do feel a wee bit sorry for him. As a previous poster says, if he succeeds at whatever he chooses to do it will always be assumed it's because of his parents connections. And if he doesn't, it's because he's a freeloader.

Also, whilst his parents haven't kept their children out of the spotlight by any means, I'm not sure that they've pushed them into it all that much either. I wouldn't have a clue what any of the four Beckham offspring actually look like, although I certainly know they exist. But I think there are a lot of celeb types whose children are a lot more recognisable.

SoupDragon · 20/05/2016 07:14

Bitching about a 17 year old?? Lovely!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 20/05/2016 07:19

"Also, whilst his parents haven't kept their children out of the spotlight by any means, I'm not sure that they've pushed them into it all that much either".

They have pushed all their children into the spotlight and from a young age as well; they've had no say or choice in the matter. Its the Brand that is the most important thing here to keep going and they have used their children to further promote their own selves.

He in particular strikes me as being aimless and without proper direction. Who does he have around him?. People probably say yes to him a lot and shield him so that does not help either. At 17 he still needs parental guidance but where are mum and dad?. I do not think they are a fixed and constant presence in his life as they are always doing other things.

SuburbanRhonda · 20/05/2016 07:22

Show me a teenager who isn't awkward. Only they think they're being cool and edgy and doing it all oh so differently.

So we're not allowed to say anything about a young person who's in the public eye, but making snide comments about all teenagers is fine.

TheHiphopopotamus · 20/05/2016 07:24

I think Victoria is raising him to be a stand-in for his dad the way she drapes herself all over him in recent photos.

And if BB wants to use his parents fame and money to make a career for himself, he's going to hear a lot worse than is on this thread.

NickiFury · 20/05/2016 07:27

You misunderstand Rhonda I am not being snide. I have a teenager. I would never be snide about him and his friends. Must just be how you think.

lionheart · 20/05/2016 07:32

I thought we avoided this kinds of threads on MN. It's nobody's business but theirs.

Kenduskeag · 20/05/2016 07:36

"Shouldn't he be doing AS exams like my 17 year old"

He is nothing like your 17 year old.

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 20/05/2016 07:45

Where's the op who started this thread to just bitch??

Pepperpot99 · 20/05/2016 07:48

He does go to school; my friend is one of his teachers Grin.

Contrary to many of the loony rantings on this thread by folk who read OK magazine and think it's all true my friend says he's a nice, normal kid and that his mother is a very interested and supportive parent. So ner.

ssd · 20/05/2016 08:08

I'm sure they are a nice family, I just dont get why they or him would want his face in the papers as much as it is

sparkleglitterdaisy · 20/05/2016 08:12

When we lived in the US summer holidays were from mid May to mid August , but not much time off the rest of the year . Sounds like he's on his summer break .

LaurieMarlow · 20/05/2016 08:21

So he's pursuing an exciting career in a field that interests him. And that's a problem why now?

He's privileged and will get opportunities that others don't. That is sadly the way of the world. If I were him/his parents, I wouldn't do a thing differently. I don't see the logic whereby doing him doing a geography A level instead is 'better' on some level.

They strike me as supportive family doing the best by their kids. The daily mail vitriol is pretty distasteful.

carabos · 20/05/2016 08:27

Tut tut. Gadding about. Tut tut. .

AttilaTheMeerkat · 20/05/2016 08:36

"So he's pursuing an exciting career in a field that interests him"

What career, famous for being famous?.

Notso · 20/05/2016 08:37

Meh, just avoid reading about him if it bothers you.
I manage to bumble through life totally oblivious to sleb twaddle unless I click on threads on here ranting about them.

LaurieMarlow · 20/05/2016 08:43

Photography/modelling Attila.

Isn't that what he's up to.

fj3568 · 20/05/2016 08:48

Mum in the run, rather than bitching elsewhere I've been calming down my stressed 17 year old who has an exam this morning and heading off to work.
People of MN - really !!!! It's a tongue in cheek post hence the refs to "gadding around with an actress".

I hate to be a boring pedant ( well actually I quite like being a pedant) but the compulsory school or training is England and Wales not UK, they can still leave at sixteen in Scotland unfortunately, as I know to my cost - DS1 called my bluff and walked out of school forever at 16.

originalmavis · 20/05/2016 09:03

His family is very rich...
Fancies being a model, photographer, brain surgeon (God please no), then ma and pa will buy it for you.

He doesn't need to go to school and it's not like he is from a long line of academics who value education is it?

LaurieMarlow · 20/05/2016 09:20

originalmavis, education comes in many forms. The Beckhams have access to many individuals who are leaders in their field. Lots of opportunities to learn from them.
