Summer country wedding. I put it to the jury - is this too bridal?

OP posts:
tiddlyipom · 12/05/2016 03:30

WhereTheFuck, no, it's fine to bodyshame slim people on MN, apparently.
Boils my piss.

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/05/2016 03:58

Every model I saw on their site is 5'9" and an extra small. I think that's an issue. I'm sure all their models are naturally that slim without starving themselves, anorexia, slimming pills or plastic surgery. Hmm But promoting that kind of body image is a problem.

pearlylum · 12/05/2016 06:24

I don't care is models are fat or thin, but I like them to look healthy.

These models look gaunt, their skin sallow, dull hair, bags under their eyes, their limbs lack any muscle definition and they have an apologetic victim like posture.

Fat or thin, they look like someone recovering from flu.

pearlylum · 12/05/2016 07:05

"heroin chic" model look of the 1990s. That's what these models remind me of.

Liiinooo · 12/05/2016 07:27

That's much nicer.

Tartsamazeballs · 12/05/2016 07:32

I prefer the h&m one! I couldn't wear the original one without my tits falling out the arm holes Grin

Waltermittythesequel · 12/05/2016 08:03

Oh, I don't like the second one!

Far too dull for what is presumably a summer wedding?

I think they're both the wrong side of casual, too. Sorry!

HawkEyeTheNoo · 12/05/2016 08:19

Perhaps country weddings are different to weddings I've been to, but these are dresses I would wear as "day" dresses. I don't think they are suitable for a wedding, but I've never been to a country wedding so what would I know.

WhereTheFuckIsMyFuckingCoat · 12/05/2016 08:21

And promoting up to a size 32 isn't? What with their lithe, toned limbs, perfectly healthy green leafy diets, and doubtless endless hours in the gym, ensuring that they are pictures of health? Or can I say that they all look like type 2 candidates? Doesn't sound so acceptable that way round does it?

pearlylum · 12/05/2016 08:27

They look ill, that's the point. THey could be three stones heavier, still look ill, I wouldn't be impressed either.
They look like victims.

WhereTheFuckIsMyFuckingCoat · 12/05/2016 08:49

I actually don't think most of do look ill. On the very lowest scale of healthy bmi probably, but not ill. You can see definite muscle definition, which disappears in anorexics (ask me how I know?), and I'd say that the most gaunt facial features amongst them have been enhanced by contouring.

Granted, they are all of a particular body type, but to be snide about them not being paid enough to eat? Not really on. Like I said, I would be slaughtered (rightly so), were I to go on about plus size models being walking adverts for why not to eat McDonald's, and looking like they're five minutes from a heart attack.

Icrackedup · 12/05/2016 08:50

"They look like victims."

No they don't. That's a horrible thing to say.

Half the models don't have any make up on and I don't think the photos have been retouched apart from upping the brightness in Lightroom. People are so used to seeing models with a full face of make up with their dark circles hidden under correcters and concealers that it has warped their sense of what looks natural.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 12/05/2016 09:17

Wherethefuck If the post had been for a dress from say, marisota or simply be, I wonder if there would have been comments wondering if they paid their models enough for a weight watchers membership or a personal trainer??

Yes, there would.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 12/05/2016 09:19

You only need to go on any thread where someone mentions being a 16 or over to see plenty of comments about that size not being healthy, even when the OP isn't asking.

Body shaming goes both ways on MN as much as everywhere else.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 12/05/2016 09:22

Oh and I don't think that dress looks very weddingy OP, and the criss cross effect makes it hang really oddly, sorry.

As others have said, alright for a day at the beach maybe, but if it were my wedding I'd be hiding you at the back in the photos as it is a weird looking dress and so short that your legs will be the main focus of the pics! but what do I know, I'm old and obviously have no clue about fashion

"Countless man-hours went into the organza flowers and Swarovski-embellished plumes..."

Well, obvs if you don't know how many man-hours go into manufacturing something then of course you won't know whether to charge £6190 or £1238 for it.

nobilityobliges · 12/05/2016 09:47

God, this thread's got really nasty. What's the point in telling the OP repeatedly that the dress she's bought is horrible? Confused I'm sure she'll look lovely in it, and I must have been to different weddings to the rest of you because I reckon a flowery silk dress is an eminently appropriate choice for such an occasion (and is not something I'd wear at the beach!). Everyone has different taste, but clearly this dress is to the OP's taste. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

WorraLiberty · 12/05/2016 09:59

I realise the topic seems to have changed to criticising the woman advertising the clothes, but to get back on track for a second....

OP I don't care for the second dress at all. Imo the first one is miles better.

Have a great time, whichever you choose.

Waltermittythesequel · 12/05/2016 10:12

nobility what are you on about?

OP is sharing the dresses asking for opinions!

ProfFJLewis · 12/05/2016 10:14

OP I really like the second one, much prefer it to the first option. The print is gorgeous and the detail with the cross pattern gives it an edge. How will you accessories it?

nobilityobliges · 12/05/2016 10:50

Walter, she isn't asking for opinions- she asked if the first dress was too white to wear to a wedding without offending the bride. She wasn't asking if people liked it or not. Then she said that she'd decided to go for the second dress she posted. She didn't ask for opinions, she just said that she was getting that one.

Waltermittythesequel · 12/05/2016 12:06

Oh no Blush

You're right. She said she'd gone the second one.

Apologies! I'm sure it will be lovely.

AlysaEdwards · 12/05/2016 12:36

My ad bar is now full of Kooples Angry.
OP you'll be pleased to know the original dress is now a steal at £175.
It does still look like something you can get at Primark though

BarbaraofSeville · 12/05/2016 13:25

There's a £45 House of Fraser one that I like and is probably better quality than the cheaper New Look ones.

The worst thing about the OPs £250 dress, apart from the price is the gaping arms making it only suitable for someone extremely slim and flat chested that could wear it without a bra and even then would need to try it on and assess side boob flashing risk potential.

HighDataUsage · 12/05/2016 13:34

I think you can get a nicer wedding guests type dress for £250. Try coast /Zara/ Karen Millen/John Lewis etc.

That is more a day dress than a wedding guests dress and certainly not worth the price tag.
