Summer country wedding. I put it to the jury - is this too bridal?

OP posts:
MilkTooth · 11/05/2016 15:00

It's not remotely 'bridal', unless you all come from strange cultures where brides routinely wear mini-skirted tea dresses with wispy prints!

I'm not impressed with the hang of the fabric on the model and would wonder how it looked and felt on, OP.

QueenofallIsee · 11/05/2016 15:04

Its not at all bridal so that's fine and you would not be unreasonable to wear it but I think its far too short and for that money I would be buying a fabulous Issa/Iris and Ink/Michael Kors dress

frenchielala · 11/05/2016 15:07

Jannrooo I think the dress is lovely and will look really pretty on at a wedding. It is a beautiful look - very elegant and classy.

Yes it is expensive but it is a beautiful print, made from silk and from the Kooples which means that it will keep its value and you also won't see many other people in it like you would with a high street version. It will also be far better quality and if it fell apart or went out of shape like a high street version there would be a recourse from the shop.

wallybantersjunkbox · 11/05/2016 15:10

I think it's fine, but did you try it on op?

In one of the pictures the model is showing a lot of "side boob" through the arm holes, which are rather large.

Which could mean a flash of bra at best (but still not great for a wedding) or at worst a good old view of your nips if it gapes.

I don't care about the price tag, if it's what you want, and it's in your price range, then it's what you want.

MardleBum · 11/05/2016 15:18

Too bridal? Confused When was the last time you saw a bride in something like that?

It isn't bridal.

It is unsuitable.

It is too short.

It is too casual.

It looks like poor value for money.

You will look like you've made very little effort.

LadyAntonella · 11/05/2016 15:20

It's maybe a bit too short and revealing round the side boob unless you're slim and petite. I don't know how tall the model is of course. I personally wouldn't wear anything revealing to a wedding. Add in the fact that it's mainly cream coloured and I reckon you might get the odd stare, which would make me feel uncomfortable at a wedding. I know someone who wore a white maxi dress to a wedding and a very drunk woman came and told her off. It wasn't even all white but my point is that people can be a bit weird about the whole wearing cream / white at weddings.

It's also very expensive for how it looks. How do these places justify prices like that??

In summary - I bet you could find a lot nicer for the same price or less. Is the wedding quite soon or do you have some time to shop around OP?

MardleBum · 11/05/2016 15:20

It is a beautiful look - very elegant and classy.

Shock

Are we looking at the same dress? It's quite pretty in a casual sort of way but elegant and classy? For a start every time she sits or bends you'll see her arse cheeks and her underwear. Ain't nothing elegant and classy about that.

WindPowerRanger · 11/05/2016 15:23

Oh, I don't know. Depends on the arse.

pearlylum · 11/05/2016 15:27

It's OK, but I would find it too short.

Couldn't resist showing my dress for a wedding in June ( i'm not the bride)

HidingUnderARock · 11/05/2016 15:33

Its fine.
Worth every penny of £40
Get a cardi to go with it.

Why would it be too bridal?

LadyAshley · 11/05/2016 15:34

Well, I think you're all horrible, I like the dress, very pretty.

And it's not super short, was expecting a Geordie Shore style bum skimmer from the comments!

Not bridal at all either.

frenchielala · 11/05/2016 15:40

MardleBum this is where fashion is so subjective - I really do think that with a beautiful pair of heals, some lipstick and a bit of sun on the day that dress will look incredibly cool and elegant but my idea of that is obviously different to yours.

It is quite an understated modern look but if you look at the trends and current look books for this level of 'aspirational LON/PARIS/NYC/LA' brand it really is 'what is in' - think Maje, Zadie & Voltaire, Claudie Pierlot etc. Don't forget The Kooples and the like are the brands that the highstreet copies.

Personally I find heavily embellished, longer, more traditionally elegant event style dresses (think coast etc) really tacky looking and would look awful on me but that is just my opinion!

In the end of the day all that matters is the wearer feels comfortable and happy in what they have on. This is the perfect example of how different everyones taste is!

nobilityobliges · 11/05/2016 15:45

I like it and agree that it's not bridal. Also, I haven't seen this particular dress in person but IMO clothes from the kooples tend to be much better quality than clothes from similarly priced competitors (whistles/reiss/Karen millen). They are really well made and look great on. I must admit that I only buy there in the sale, but I actually don't think their clothes are too badly priced for the quality (and definitely look a lot better than new look, h and m etc on - not that I've anything against those shops).

Joolsy · 11/05/2016 15:46

Personally I prefer the H&M one by miles and it's £225.01 cheaper....!

MardyBra · 11/05/2016 15:47

The model needs to brush her hair.

MitzyLeFrouf · 11/05/2016 15:47

It looks like a summer dress from one of those 'boutiques' called something like Glitzy that you find in shopping centres.

I'm not a fan at all of people wearing full length gowns and Coast style stuff to weddings either but that dress doesn't elegant and modern it just looks a bit...........New Look.

Not bridal though.

Joolsy · 11/05/2016 15:49

It has been reduced to £175 now though, according to the ad on MNet! A snip at the price ;)

MitzyLeFrouf · 11/05/2016 15:53

The Kooples couples are so annoying, peering moodily out of the photo.

'Saskia and Johann have been a couple for 18 months'

You never see 'Sandra and Barry have been a couple for 18 years'.

Waltermittythesequel · 11/05/2016 15:56

I think it's quite casual looking.

I'd wear it to a bbq.

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 11/05/2016 16:01

Bridal?
:)
In whose world is that dress "bridal"?

Is this some form of indirect marketing for an expensive dress shop?

Klaptrap · 11/05/2016 16:05

£250 for that?

God OP you could get something really special for that money, which that dress - IMO - is not.

Although if you like it, and can afford it then knock yourself out. It's not remotely bridal (unless it's a hipster wedding?).

Winterbiscuit · 11/05/2016 16:13

It would be nice for a picnic or holiday, but it's too short and flimsy for a wedding IMO. I'd be looking for something shaped a bit more like one of these.

Yumi Tropical Bird Print Day Dress £45

Hobbs Maiya Dress £149

Hobbs Green Alba Dress £119

murphyslaws · 11/05/2016 16:13

£250 rip off

Too short and looks casual

nobilityobliges · 11/05/2016 16:19

Nah, to the people suggesting alternatives, the whole appeal of the kooples is the louche, unkempt, i'm a Swedish goth architect living in Paris look. I fully accept that it's a bit wanky, but that's their thing and some of us fashion victims like it. If the OP is into that look she's not going to want to wear a sheath dress from hobbs or similar (though if that's your look I think they would look lovely too).
