Just askin'

And place marking for updates Grin

This thread can't end there, it's not an episode of Eastenders!

OP posts:
Majorlyscared1993 · 11/05/2016 11:47

wheresthebeach maybe it will make the bride and groom think twice before they act like ungrateful money grabbing animals next time.

Lweji · 11/05/2016 11:49

BTW, and I hope this doesn't out me (don't think so).

A friend has just told me, after I mentioned this story, that a relative was asked directly for 1000 USD as a wedding present Shock by a friend (not in the UK).
He is not British, so just replied directly with something like "are you fucking kidding me?" And didn't go to the wedding.

MrsHathaway · 11/05/2016 11:49

Philip is clearly a Targaryen.

"Weddings are designed to irritate people nowadays." Trusay.

Majorlyscared1993 · 11/05/2016 11:50

Lweji that is fucking dreadful... But unfortunately after all the wedding threads on here doesn't surprise me!!!

wheresthebeach · 11/05/2016 11:50

Of course they behaved badly but they don't deserve this.

Majorlyscared1993 · 11/05/2016 11:52

But puzzled deserved to be made to feel embarrassed and upset at their blatant rejection of her very generous present? Thy should have thought before they sent the e mail IMO.

silverpenny · 11/05/2016 11:53

Was this story wholly truthful? (not saying it is or isn''t) but if any details have been embellished then the original poster will end up being hammered.

MrsHathaway · 11/05/2016 11:53

"Gratitude, dignity and respect" is what's being recommended. Who'd have thought?

DuckAndPancakes · 11/05/2016 11:53

wheresthebeach
They should be thankful that they've not exactly been publicly named and shamed then, shouldn't they?

Or, maybe they should be more thoughtful of the sort of messages that they send people in future. It was an absolutely appalling thing to do and I'm sure they are aware of it now. They'll never be able to try and turn this story into anything other than their own greed.

But then, I'm an awful bitch and would have presented their entitled grabbiness to any and all mutual friends to see without a hint of remorse.

Majorlyscared1993 · 11/05/2016 11:54

silverpenny puzzled is still posting on this thread and there is no reason to believe she isn't telling the truth.

Majorlyscared1993 · 11/05/2016 11:55

Agreed DuckAndPancakes Grin

wheresthebeach · 11/05/2016 11:56

Oh come on...there is the world of difference between a stupid, greedy email to one person and national, and international press coverage and wide spread condemnation.

blindsider · 11/05/2016 11:56

why does everyone keep telling her to cancel the cheque??

surely she will have already done that??

blueemerald · 11/05/2016 11:56

The story is in the Guardian!

Majorlyscared1993 · 11/05/2016 11:58

wheresthebeach with any luck this national coverage with encourage other greedy bridezillas to keep their mouth shut when they feel like gifts they have been given aren't good enough. Tough stuff.

DuckAndPancakes · 11/05/2016 11:59

blindsider 😂😂

wheresthebeach it was an anonymous thread on mumsnet, not exactly a story in "now" magazine or whatever the fuck trash mag posts those kinds of stories. OP could have gone to DM and done her best sad face, as well as providing a copy of the email and a photo of her at the wedding (for all guests faces to be blurred out, of course).

I was always told that actions have consequences, in the days of social media and the Internet they have become much more so.

Lweji · 11/05/2016 12:01

This, and a comment in the Guardian about people checking that the B&G did receive the present because they didn't get a thank you note, reminded me of this:

Lweji · 11/05/2016 12:02

there is the world of difference between a stupid, greedy email to one person and national, and international press coverage and wide spread condemnation.

It's not properly international until it reaches my country. I'll keep you posted.

Majorlyscared1993 · 11/05/2016 12:03

With any luck this thread is pay back for OP as she has lost her money ... I don't know why she didn't just cancel the fucking cheque Hmm

Bambambini · 11/05/2016 12:04

Nah, this kind of world shaming over a silly (even if greedy) thing is way OTT. I'm sutprised puzzled is happy about it, i'd be feeling that it had all got way out of hand.

People have had their lives destroyed before because of one silly deed or comment that has went viral. Don't think that it couldn't happen to you.

Akire · 11/05/2016 12:13

Akire · 11/05/2016 12:13
